Mark 6:14-28

RKJNT(i) 14 And King Herod heard of it; (for his name was spread abroad). And some said that John the Baptist had risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works showed themselves forth in him. 15 Others said, He is Elijah. And others said, He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old. 16 But when Herod heard of it, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he has risen from the dead. 17 For Herod himself had John arrested, and bound him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her. 18 For John had said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife. 19 Therefore Herodias had a grudge against him, and would have killed him; but she could not: 20 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and kept him safe; and when he heard him, he was perplexed, but he enjoyed listening to him. 21 But an opportunity came on Herod's birthday, when he had a banquet for his lords, high captains, and chief men of Galilee; 22 When the daughter of Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, Ask of me whatever you wish, and I will give it to you. 23 And he swore to her, Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give it to you, up to half of my kingdom. 24 And she went out, and said to her mother, For what shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist. 25 And she came immediately in haste to the king, and asked, saying, I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter. 26 The king was exceedingly sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for the sake of those who sat with him, he would not refuse her. 27 So immediately the king sent an executioner with orders that his head be brought. He went and beheaded him in the prison, 28 And brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl: and she gave it to her mother.
