ISV⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹⁵ The Jewish People Celebrate the King’s EdictMordecai left the king’s presence in royal robes of blue and white, wearing a large golden crown and a purple robe made of fine linen; and the city of Susa shouted with joy. ¹⁶ For the Jewish people, there was light and joy, gladness and honor.

and with a great crown.Mordecai was now made the chief minister, or vizier, instead of Haman; and was accordingly invested with the "royal apparel," in conformity to the custom of the East. So we are informed, in the History of the Revolt of Ali Bey, that on the election of a new {sheikh bellet,} or chief of the country, in Egypt, the {pasha} who approves of him invests him with a robe of valuable fur.
