THE SONG OF SONGS
The song of songs; by Shelomoh. 2
THE WOMAN SPEAKS
He kisses me with the kisses of his mouth; your loves are better than wine: 3 the scent of your ointments is good; your name, as poured ointment; so the virgins love you. 4 Draw me, we run after you; the sovereign brings me into his chambers; we cheer and twirl in you; we remember your loves more than wine; they love you in straightnesses. 5 I am black and comely O you daughters of Yeru Shalem; - as the tents of Qedar - as the curtains of Shelomoh. 6 See me not, because I am black; because the sun tanned me; the sons of my mother scorched me; they set me to guard the vineyards; my vineyard - my own I guarded not. 7 Tell me, you whom my soul loves, where you tend; where you respose at noon; why am I as a veiled one by the droves of your companions? 8
THE MAN RESPONDS
If you know not, O you beautiful among women, go the way of the heelprints of the flock; and tend your kids beside the tabernacles of the tenders. 9 I compare you, O my friend, to a mare of the chariots of Paroh: 10 your cheeks are comely with rows; your neck with beads; 11 we work you rows of gold with sequins of silver. 12
THE WOMAN
While the sovereign is in his circle, my nard gives its scent; 13 a bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved to me; between my breasts, he stays overnight; 14 my beloved to me is a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of En Gedi. 15
THE MAN
Behold, you are beautiful, my friend; behold, you are beautiful; your eyes, of doves. 16
THE WOMAN
Behold, you are beautiful, my beloved, yes, pleasant; yes, our bedstead is green: 17 the beams of our house are of cedar and our troughs of firs.
