With infinitives, see below 7 b. often also with adverbs, as מִשָּׁם thence, מֵאַיִן whence ? מִוֶּה, מִפֹּה hence. compare also חָפְשִׁי מִן free (safe) from [Job 3:19], עֵזֶר מִצָּרָיו a help from his foes [Deut 33:7]; [Nah 3:11] מָעוֺז מֵאוֺיֵב, [Ps 32:7] סֵתֶר מִצַּר, [Ps 60:13] עֶזְרָת מִצָּ֑ר, [Isa 4:6] צֵל מֵחֹרֶב a shadow from, the heat, [Isa 25:4]. And so even with verbs of motion, as [Gen 11:2] מִקֶּדֶם ויהי בנסעם as they journeyed — not from, but — on, the side of the east, virtually = eastwards, [Gen 13:11] and Lot journeyed מקדם east, [Isa 17:13]; [Isa 22:3] ברחו מֵרָחוֺק they fled — not from afar but — afar, [Isa 23:7] whose feet used to carry her מֵרָחוֺק afar off to sojourn, [Isa 57:9] thou didst send thy messengers עדמֿרחוק even to afar. With a following לְ (or suffix), most of these words are frequently in the sense of on the east (west, etc.) of . . ., as [Josh 8:13] לָעִיר מִיָּם on the west of the city, מִקֶּדֶם לְ [Gen 3:24], מִצְּפוֺן לְ (construct Ges«GKC:130a»§ 130 a, n.)
