1. in front of, over against (compare Nö^{ZMG xxxiii (1879), 532}), Gen 2:14 (i.e. from standpoint of writer; really, on geographic grounds, = west of; yet see Di^{ed. 6}), Gen 4:16 (both J),

2. on the east of, Ezek 39:11; 1Sam 13:5 may be either.
