\ \ b. surround, encompass, enclose, usually with ׃עַלֿ וַיַּקִּ֫פוּ עַלהָֿעִיר [2Kgs 6:14] and they closed in upon the city (beleaguered it); with עַל person [2Kgs 11:8] (+ סָבִיב), [Ps 17:9]; [Ps 88:18] (|| סָבַב), + accusative of thing [Job 19:6] he hath closed his net in upon me compare [Lam 3:5] less often with accusative of person [Ps 22:17] (|| סָבַב), [2Chr 23:7] (|| [2Kgs 11:8] + סָבִיב), also of inanimate things [1Kgs 7:24] = [2Chr 4:3] (both + סָבִיב, || סָבַב).

3. make round, round off (literally): פְּאַת ראֹשְׁכֶם ׳לֹא חַקּ [Lev 19:27] (|| לֹא תַשְׁחִית אֵת פְּאַת זְקָנֶ֑ךָ), of heathen rite.
