מִכְשׁוֺל noun masculine^{Jer 6:21} a stumbling, means or occasion of stumbling, stumbling-block; — ׳מ absolute Isa 8:14 + 3 t., מִכְשֹׁל Lev 19:14 construct מִכְשׁוֺל 1Sam 25:31 + 6 t. Ezekiel; plural מִכְשֹׁלִים Jer 6:21 + Ezek 21:20 ᵑ0 (Co and others מֻכְשָׁלִים, see below); —

1. stumbling, ׳צוּר מ Isa 8:14 (fig) a rock of stumbling (i.e. over which one stumbles); literal הַרְבֵּה הַמִּכְשֹׁלִים Ezek 21:20 an abundance of stumblings, falls (si vera lectio; ᵐ5. οἱ ἀσθενοῦντες, apparently reading participle, compare Sm; so Co Da (as a possibility), i.e. מֻכְשָׁלִים Hoph`al Participle of כשׁל = those who have stumbled or been overthrown).

2. means, or occasion of stumbling, stumbling-block; a literal Lev 19:14.
\ \ b. figurative of misfortune, calamity Paslm Lev 119:165; in divine judgment Jer 6:21; Ezek 3:20, as a hindrance to restoration of people Isa 57:14.
\ \ c. in ethical sense עֲוֺנָם ׳מ Ezek 7:19 a stumbling-block of (i.e. occasioning) their iniquity, so Ezek 14:3; Ezek 14:4; Ezek 14:7; Ezek 18:30; Ezek 44:12 (mostly with reference to idols.).
