ABU(i)
He said therefore: A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
And having called his ten servants, he gave them ten pounds, and said to them: Traffic, till I come.
But his citizens hated him, and sent an embassy after him, saying: We will not have this man to reign over us.
And it came to pass, when he had returned, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants to be called to him, to whom he gave the money, that he might know what each gained by trading.
And the first came, saying: Lord, thy pound gained ten pounds.
And he said to him: Well done, good servant; because thou wast faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
And the second came, saying: Lord, thy pound made five pounds.
And he said also to this man: And be thou over five cities.
And another came, saying: Lord, behold thy pound, which I kept laid up in a napkin.
For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man; thou takest up what thou layedst not down, and reapest what thou didst not sow.
And he says to him: Out of thy mouth will I judge thee, wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping what I did not sow?
Why then didst thou not put my money into the bank? and I, at my coming, should have required it with interest.
And he said to those standing by: Take from him the pound, and give it to him that has the ten pounds.
And they said to him: Lord, he has ten pounds.
For I say to you, that to every one that has shall be given; and from him that has not, even what he has shall be taken away.
But those my enemies, who would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
