¹ But *we* ought, we that are strong, to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. ² Let each one of us please his neighbour with a view to what is good, to edification.

¹⁷ recompensing to no one evil for evil: providing things honest before all men: ¹⁸ if possible, as far as depends on you, living in peace with all men; ¹⁹ not avenging yourselves, beloved, but give place to wrath; for it is written, Vengeance [belongs] to me, *I* will recompense, saith the Lord. ²⁰ If therefore thine enemy should hunger, feed him; if he should thirst, give him drink; for, so doing, thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head. ²¹ Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

⁸ nor have we eaten bread from any one without cost; but in toil and hardship working night and day not to be chargeable to any one of you:

⁹ And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, and the gleaning of thy harvest thou shalt not gather. ¹⁰ And thy vineyard shalt thou not glean, neither shalt thou gather what hath been left of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am Jehovah your God.

² fulfil my joy, that ye may think the same thing, having the same love, joined in soul, thinking one thing; ³ [let] nothing [be] in the spirit of strife or vain glory, but, in lowliness of mind, each esteeming the other as more excellent than themselves; ⁴ regarding not each his own [qualities], but each those of others also. ⁵ For let this mind be in you which [was] also in Christ Jesus; ⁶ who, subsisting in the form of God, did not esteem it an object of rapine to be on an equality with God; ⁷ but emptied himself, taking a bondman`s form, taking his place in [the] likeness of men; ⁸ and having been found in figure as a man, humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, and [that the] death of [the] cross.

¹⁴ What [is] the profit, my brethren, if any one say he have faith, but have not works? can faith save him? ¹⁵ Now if a brother or a sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one from amongst you say to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled; but give not to them the needful things for the body, what [is] the profit? ¹⁷ So also faith, if it have not works, is dead by itself. ¹⁸ But some one will say, *Thou* hast faith and *I* have works. Shew me thy faith without works, and *I* from my works will shew thee my faith. ¹⁹ *Thou* believest that God is one. Thou doest well. The demons even believe, and tremble. ²⁰ But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and that by works faith was perfected. ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness, and he was called Friend of God. ²⁴ Ye see that a man is justified on the principle of works, and not on the principle of faith only.

⁶ Now we enjoin you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw from every brother walking disorderly and not according to the instruction which he received from us. ⁷ For ye know yourselves how ye ought to imitate us, because we have not walked disorderly among you; ⁸ nor have we eaten bread from any one without cost; but in toil and hardship working night and day not to be chargeable to any one of you: ⁹ not that we have not the right, but that we might give ourselves as an example to you, in order to your imitating us. ¹⁰ For also when we were with you we enjoined you this, that if any man does not like to work, neither let him eat. ¹¹ For we hear that [there are] some walking among you disorderly, not working at all, but busybodies. ¹² Now such we enjoin and exhort in [the] Lord Jesus Christ, that working quietly they eat their own bread.

²⁷ He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack; but he that withdraweth his eyes shall have many a curse.

³⁵ I have shewed you all things, that thus labouring [we] ought to come in aid of the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

⁷ If there be amongst you a poor man, any one of thy brethren in one of thy gates, in thy land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thy heart, nor shut thy hand from thy brother in need; ⁸ but thou shalt open thy hand bountifully unto him, and shalt certainly lend him on pledge what is sufficient for his need, [in that] which he lacketh. ⁹ Beware that there be not a wicked thought in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry against thee to Jehovah, and it be sin in thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt bountifully give unto him, and thy heart shall not be evil-disposed when thou givest unto him; because for this thing Jehovah thy God will bless thee in all thy works, and in all the business of thy hand. ¹¹ For the needy shall never cease from within the land; therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thy hand bountifully unto thy brother, to thy poor and to thy needy, in thy land.
