¹⁹ You must understand this, my dearly loved brothers. Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to get angry;

²² But I say to you: "Everyone who harbors malice against his brother, will have to answer to the court, and whoever speaks contemptuously to his brother, will have to answer to the supreme court; and whoever says to his brother, 'You cursed fool? will have to pay the penalty in the pit of torture.

² and so many people gathered there that there was no longer any room even around the door. He was telling them His message.

³⁷ David himself called him Lord, so how can He be his son?" Most of the people liked to hear Him.

¹ Now all the tax-collectors and notorious sinners were crowding around Him to listen to Him.

⁴⁸ but they could not find, as hard as they tried, what to do with Him, for all the people continued to hang on His words.

⁴² And they devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to fellowship with one another, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

³³ So at once I sent for you, and you have been kind enough to come. So now we are all here in God's presence to listen to anything that the Lord has commanded you to say."

⁴² As they were leaving the synagogue, the people kept begging that all this be repeated to them the next sabbath, ⁴³ and after the congregation had broken up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism allied themselves with Paul and Barnabas, and they kept talking to them and urging them to continue to rely on the unmerited favor of God. ⁴⁴ The next sabbath almost the whole town turned out to hear God's message.

⁴⁸ The heathen kept on listening and rejoicing and giving the glory to God's message, and all who had been destined to eternal life believed,

¹¹ The Jews there were better disposed than those in Thessalonica, for they welcomed the message with all eagerness and carried on a daily study of the Scriptures to see if Paul's message was true.

²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, enmity, quarreling, jealousy, anger, intrigues, dissensions, party-spirit, ²¹ envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I now warn you, as I have done before, that those who practice such things shall not be heirs of the kingdom of God.

²⁶ If you do get angry, you must stop sinning in your anger. Do not ever let the sun go down on your anger;

³¹ You must remove all bitterness, rage, anger, loud threats, and insults, with all malice.

⁸ But now you too must once for all put them all aside -- anger, rage, malice, and abusive, filthy talk from your lips.

¹⁵ Let the peace that Christ can give keep on acting as umpire in your hearts, for you were called to this state as members of one body. And practice being thankful.

¹³ For another reason too, we, as far as we are concerned, are constantly giving thanks to God; that is, when you received the message you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the message of men but as the message of God, as it really is, which keeps on working in you who believe.

²⁶ If anyone thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives himself, his religious worship is worthless.

¹ Many of you, my brothers, should avoid becoming teachers, because you know that we teachers are going to be judged with stricter judgment than other people. ² For we all make many a slip. If anyone never slips in speech, he is a man of maturity; he can control his whole body too.

²¹ I do not write to you because you do not know it, but because you do know it.
