³⁶ Everyone was taken with amazement and they started conversing together, saying: “What is this word! For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”

³³ And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the crowds marveled saying, “Never was it seen like this in Israel!”

²² Then a demonized man was brought to Him, blind and mute, and He healed him, so that the \up6 a\up0 blind and \up6 b\up0 mute both \up6 b\up0 spoke and \up6 a\up0 saw. [a chiasmus—ab,ba] ²³ And all the crowds were amazed and said, “Might this not be the Son of David?”

²⁷ And all were astounded, so that they questioned among themselves, saying: “What is this? What can this new doctrine be? Because with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him!”

³⁷ People were astonished beyond measure, saying: “He has done everything well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”

¹⁷ And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new languages; ¹⁸ they will remove ‘snakes’; and if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them at all; they will lay hands on sick people, and they will get well.” ¹⁹ So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven and sat down at God’s right. ²⁰ And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the message by the accompanying signs. Amen.

³² They kept on being amazed at His teaching, because His word was with authority.

¹⁷ Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” ¹⁸ So He said to them: “I watched Satan fall like lightning out of heaven. ¹⁹ Take note, I am giving you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing at all may harm you. ²⁰ However, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

¹² so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that he touched were applied to the sick, and the diseases left them and the wicked spirits went out from them. ¹³ Well some among the itinerant Jewish exorcists attempted to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had wicked spirits saying, “We adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches”. ¹⁴ In fact there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who were doing this. ¹⁵ But a particular wicked spirit reacted and said, “Jesus I know, and I am acquainted with Paul, but who are you?” ¹⁶ And the man in whom the wicked spirit was jumped on them and overpowered them; he was so much stronger that they ran out of that house naked and wounded.
