¹ An oracle. The word of the LORD to Israel through Malachi. ² I have loved you, says the LORD. Yet you say, How have you loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother, says the LORD. Yet I loved Jacob, ³ rejected Esau, turned his mountains into a wasteland, and gave his inheritance to desert jackals. ⁴ Even though Edom may claim, 'We were crushed, but we will return and rebuild the ruins,' this is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "They may rebuild, but I'll demolish. People will call them 'The Wicked Land,' and 'The People With Whom the LORD is Forever Angry.' ⁵ Your own eyes will see this, and you will say 'Great is the LORD even beyond the borders of Israel!'" ⁶ "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me? says the LORD of hosts to you, priests, who despise my name. You say, 'How have we despised your name?' ⁷ By presenting defiled food on my altar. And you ask 'How have we defiled you?' By saying 'The Table of the LORD is contemptible.' ⁸ When you bring blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? And when you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Offer that to your governor would he be pleased with you or receive you favorably?" asks the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. ⁹ "Now, please entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With this, will he accept any of you?" says the LORD of hosts. ¹⁰ "Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors and not light useless fires on the altar! I'm not pleased with you," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "and I'll accept no offerings from you. ¹¹ For from the east to the west, My name shall be great among the nations, and everywhere incense shall be offered to My name; and a pure food offering; for My name shall be great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts. ¹² "But you profane it, in that you say, 'The LORD's table is defiled, and its fruit, its food, is despised.' ¹³ "And you say 'What a burden!' and sniff contemptuously at it," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "when you present maimed, crippled, and diseased animals, and when you bring the offering. Should I accept this from your hand?" asks the LORD. ¹⁴ "Cursed is the one who cheats, who has in his flock a male and vows it, but instead sacrifices a blemished one to the Lord! For I am a great king," says the LORD of hosts, "and my name is awesome among the nations."

¹ In the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day, the word of the LORD came through Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

¹ On the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet:

¹ An oracle. The word of the LORD is against the land of Hadrach, and will rest upon Damascus; for the eye of man and of all the tribes of Israel is toward the LORD;

¹ An oracle. The word of the LORD concerning Israel. The LORD, who stretches out the heavens, and lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him says:

²³ And the LORD said to her, "Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from birth shall be divided. And one people shall be stronger than the other. And the elder shall serve the younger."

²⁷ And he came near, and kissed him. And he smelt the smell of his clothes, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed. ²⁸ May God give you of the dew of heaven and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of grain and new wine. ²⁹ Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you; Be lord of your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. Cursed be those cursing you, and blessed be those blessing you." ³⁰ No sooner had Isaac finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob left his presence, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

³³ Then Isaac trembled violently. Then he said, "Who then was he that hunted wild game and brought it to me, and I ate it all before you came, and I blessed him? Moreover, he will be blessed!"

³ May God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples, ⁴ "He will bless you and your descendants as he blessed Abraham. You may take possession of this land, in which you have lived and which God gave to Abraham!"

¹³ And he saw the Lord by his side, saying, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac: I will give to you and to your seed this land on which you are sleeping. ¹⁴ "Your descendants will be like the dust on the earth. You will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. Every family on earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants.

²⁸ And he said, Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel: for in your fight with God and with men you have overcome. ²⁹ Jacob said: "Please tell me your name." The man answered: "Why do you ask for my name?" Then he blessed Jacob there. ³⁰ And Jacob called the name of the place Penuel, because I saw God face to face, and my life is delivered.

⁴ and said to me, Behold, I will make you fruitful and will multiply you, and will make you a multitude of peoples. And I will give this land to your seed after you as a continual possession.

³⁷ And because he loved your ancestors he chose their descendants after them. And he brought you forth from Egypt with his own presence, by his great strength,

⁶ For you are a holy people to the LORD your God. the LORD your God has chosen you to be His own treasure out of all the people on the face of the earth. ⁷ The LORD did not set his love on you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples: ⁸ But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn to your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bond-men, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

¹⁵ "Yet the LORD set his affection on your fathers. He loved them. He chose you their descendants above all peoples, as it is this day.

⁸ When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of men, he set the bounds of the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel. ⁹ For the LORD's portion is his people. Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. ¹⁰ He found him in a desert land, and in the waste, a howling wilderness. He encircled him and cared for him; He guarded him as the pupil of His eye. ¹¹ "Like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, spreads its wings to catch them, and carries them on its wings, ¹² "the LORD alone led his people. No foreign god was with them. ¹³ "He made him ride on the heights of the earth and fed him with the produce of the fields. He gave him honey from rocks and olive oil from solid rock. ¹⁴ butter from cows, and milk from sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the sons of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat. And you drank the blood of the grape.

⁸ "However you, O Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham, my friend, ⁹ "'I took you from the ends of the earth. I called you from its farthest corners. I said: 'You are my servant. I have chosen you and have not rejected you.

⁴ Since you have been precious and honored in my sight, and I have loved you, therefore I will give people in your place, and nations instead of your life.

⁵ the LORD says: "What bad thing (injustice) did your fathers find in me that they went so far away from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless (lead astray) themselves.

³¹ Generation, consider the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of thick darkness? Why do my people say, 'We have broken loose. We will come to you no more?'

³ the LORD appeared to him from afar, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love. Therefore I have drawn you with loving-kindness.

⁶ "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me? says the LORD of hosts to you, priests, who despise my name. You say, 'How have we despised your name?' ⁷ By presenting defiled food on my altar. And you ask 'How have we defiled you?' By saying 'The Table of the LORD is contemptible.'

¹⁷ "You have wearied the LORD with your words. You ask, 'How have we wearied you?' By your saying 'All who do evil are good in the eyes of the LORD and he's pleased with them,' or 'Where is the God of justice?'"

⁷ "Even since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and haven't kept them. Return to me and I'll return to you," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. "But you ask, 'How will we return?' ⁸ Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In tithes and offerings.

¹³ "You have spoken arrogant words against me," says the LORD. "Yet you ask, 'What did we say against you?' ¹⁴ You have said, 'It is useless to serve God! What is the gain if we keep his requirements, and if we walk as mourners before the LORD of hosts?

²⁹ But the man wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

¹⁰ Not only that, but Rebecca’s children were conceived by one man, our father Isaac. ¹¹ Yet before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad, in order that God’s plan of election might stand, ¹² not by works but by Him who calls, she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” ¹³ just as it is written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated."

²⁸ As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake, but as far as election is concerned, they are loved for the sake of their ancestors. ²⁹ For God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable.

³⁰ Jacob slept with Rachel too. He loved Rachel more than Leah. So he worked for Laban another seven years. ³¹ When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

¹⁵ "If a man has two wives where one is loved but the other is unloved, and both of them bear him sons, but the firstborn is the son of the unloved wife, ¹⁶ Then when he gives his property to his sons for their heritage, he is not to put the son of his loved one in the place of the first son, the son of the hated wife:

²¹ But wild animals of the desert will lie there, and their houses will be full of jackals. Ostriches will dwell there, and wild goats will frolic there. ²² Wolves will cry in their castles, and jackals in the pleasant palaces. Her time is near to come, and her days will not be prolonged.

⁹ Her streams will be turned into pitch, her dust into sulphur, and her land will become burning pitch; ¹⁰ It won’t be quenched night or day. Its smoke will go up forever. From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever. ¹¹ but the pelican and the porcupine will possess it, the owl and the raven will dwell in it. He will stretch the line of confusion over it, and the plumb line of emptiness. ¹² As for her nobles, none shall be there to be called to the kingdom; and all her princes shall be nothing. ¹³ Thorns will come up in its palaces, nettles and thistles in its fortresses; and it will be a habitation of jackals, a court for ostriches. ¹⁴ And the wildcats will meet with the hyenas, and the wild goat will cry to his fellow. There too, nocturnal animals shall settle, and shall find themselves a place of rest.

⁷ And the glowing sand will become a pool and the thirsty ground springs of water. In the habitation of jackals, where they lay, will be grass with reeds and rushes.

¹¹ "I'll make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a refuge for jackals. I'll make the towns of Judah desolate, without inhabitants."

¹⁰ But I'll strip Esau bare. I'll uncover his hiding places so he cannot conceal himself. His offspring, his relatives, and his neighbors will be destroyed, and he will no longer exist.

¹⁶ Your terror has deceived you, the pride of your heart, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, you who seize the height of the hill. Though you make your nest high like the eagle, from there I will bring you down," declares the LORD. ¹⁷ "Edom will become an object of horror. Everyone who passes by her will be horrified and will scoff because of all her wounds. ¹⁸ Just like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors," says the LORD, "no one will live there. No human being will reside in it.

³⁷ "Babylon will become a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals, an object of horror and hissing, without inhabitants.

¹³ therefore thus says the Sovereign LORD: "so I will stretch out my hand against Edom and I will cut off from it both human and animal, and I will make it a ruin from Teman and Dedan; they will fall by the sword. ¹⁴ 'I will lay my vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel. Therefore, they will act in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath. They will know my vengeance, declares the Sovereign LORD."'

³ And say to it, So says the Sovereign LORD: Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch My hand against you, and I will make you a ruin and a waste. ⁴ I will lay your cities waste, and you will be desolate. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

⁷ And I will make Mount Seir a cause for wonder and a waste, cutting off from it all comings and goings. ⁸ I will fill its mountains with its slain. The slain with the sword will fall in your hills and in your valleys and in all your watercourses.

³ therefore prophesy and say, Thus says the Sovereign LORD. Because, even because they have made you desolate and swallowed you up on every side, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and you became the talk and evil gossip of the nations; ⁴ '"'Therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Sovereign LORD. The Sovereign LORD says to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes and to the forsaken cities that have become a prey and derision to the rest of the nations that are round about,

⁷ "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'I raise my hand and swear that the nations that surround you will be insulted.

⁹ For, behold, I am for you, and I will come to you, and you will be tilled and sown.

¹⁴ therefore you will no more devour men, nor bereave your nation any more, says the Sovereign LORD. ¹⁵ Nor will I allow you to hear the shame of the nations any more, nor shall you bear the shame of the peoples any more, nor shall you cause your nations to fall any more, says the Sovereign LORD.

¹⁹ Egypt will be desolate, and Edom will be a desert, because of violence against the people of Judah since they shed innocent blood in their land.

¹⁰ "Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you and you will be cut off forever.

¹⁸ "The house of Jacob will be a fire! The house of Joseph will be a flame! The house of Esau will be for stubble and they will burn among them, and devour them. There will be no survivors of the house of Esau: for the LORD has spoken! ¹⁹ Those of the Negev will possess the mountain of Esau, and those of the lowland, the Philistines. They will possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria. Benjamin will possess Gilead. ²⁰ The exiles, the Israelite host, will possess the territory of the Canaanites all the way to Zarephath. The exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad will possess the cities of the Negev. ²¹ Saviors will go up on Mount Zion to judge the mountains of Esau, and the kingdom will be the LORD's.

²⁶ “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be My disciple.

⁴ He is wise in heart and mighty in strength; who has resisted him and succeeded?

¹⁴ "What he tears down cannot be rebuilt. The man he imprisons cannot be released.

²⁹ "If he is remains silent, who will condemn him? If he conceals his face, who can see him? He watches over both nation and individual alike,

¹ A Song of Ascents. By Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, they who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

⁷ Remember, O LORD, against the sons of Edom, the day of Jerusalem; who said, Lay [it] bare, Lay [it] bare, down to its foundation!

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

⁹ All the people will know it. Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria who say with pride and arrogance of heart: ¹⁰ "The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with cut stones. The fig trees have been cut down, but we will replace them with cedars."

⁴ so as not to kneel with the prisoners, or fall among the slain? For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

¹⁵ Shall the axe boast itself against him who hews with it? Shall the saw magnify itself against him who wields it? As if a rod should wield those who lift it up, [or] as if a staff should lift up [him who is] not wood. ¹⁶ Therefore the Lord, the LORD of Armies, will send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory a burning will be kindled like the burning of fire.

¹⁴ They will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the west. Together they will plunder the sons of the east. They will possess Edom and Moab, and the sons of Ammon will be subject to them.

⁵ For my sword saturates in the heavens: behold, it descends on Edom and on the people of my devotement to judgment.

¹⁰ It won’t be quenched night or day. Its smoke will go up forever. From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever.

¹ Who is this, coming from Edom, from Bozrah in bright red garments? Who is this honored in his garment, lying down in his great strength? "It is I, speaking in justice, mighty to save!" ² Why are your garments red, and your garments like he who treads in the winepress? ³ “I have trodden the wine press alone. Of the peoples, no one was with me. Yes, I trod them in my anger and trampled them in my wrath. Their lifeblood is sprinkled on my garments, and I have stained all my clothing. ⁴ For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed has come. ⁵ I looked, and there was no one to help; and I wondered that there was no one to uphold. Therefore my own arm brought salvation to me. My own wrath upheld me. ⁶ "In my wrath I trampled on people. In my rage I made them drunk and poured their blood on the ground."

¹⁷ There is hope for your future," declares the LORD. "Your children will return to their own territory."

³⁷ Who can speak and it will happen if the Lord has not commanded it?

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, you who dwell in the land of Uz; but to you also the cup will pass, you will become drunk and strip yourself bare. ²² O daughter of Sion, thine iniquity is done away. He will no more banish thee. He hath visited thine iniquities, daughter of Edom. He hath exposed thee for thy sins.

¹⁰ You will fall by the sword. I will judge you in the border of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

¹⁴ 'I will lay my vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel. Therefore, they will act in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath. They will know my vengeance, declares the Sovereign LORD."'

⁹ I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

² Cross to Calneh and see; and from there go to the great Hamath; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms, or their border than your border?

³ rejected Esau, turned his mountains into a wasteland, and gave his inheritance to desert jackals.

³⁰ "He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me, scatters.

¹³ Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.” ¹⁴ You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. ¹⁵ Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that." ¹⁶ As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

³ "You saw with your own eyes what he did in Baal Peor. The LORD your God exterminated from among you every man who followed Baal of Peor.

⁷ Your very own eyes saw all the great things that the LORD did."

⁷ They cried out to the LORD, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and he brought the sea over them and covered them; your own eyes saw what I did in Egypt. Then you lived in the wilderness for many days.

¹⁶ "Now then, stand up and see this great thing that the LORD is about to do before your eyes.

⁸ That's why the LORD was angry with Judah and Jerusalem and made them an object of terror, horror, and derision, as you've seen with your own eyes.

²⁶ Let those who gloat over my downfall be thoroughly put to shame and confused. Let those who promote themselves at my expense be clothed with shame and disgrace. ²⁷ Let those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and rejoice! Let them continually say, "Magnify the LORD, who delights in giving peace to his servant."

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees vengeance; he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. ¹¹ A person will say, "Certainly, the righteous are rewarded; certainly there is a God who judges the earth."

¹⁷ Shame and terrify them eternally; yes, that they blush and destruct; ¹⁸ And let them know Your name is the LORD, that You alone are the Most High over all the earth.

¹⁶ and you will advance against my people Israel like a cloud covering the land; it will be in the last days, and I will bring you against my land, so that the nations know me, when I show myself holy through you before their eyes, O Gog!" '

²³ And I will magnify myself and sanctify myself and I will make myself known in the eyes of many nations. And they will know that I am the LORD.

²¹ And I will display my glory among the nations: and all the nations shall see my punishment that I execute, and my hand that I lay on them. ²² "From that day on, the people of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God.

⁴ And he will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they will live, for now he will be great unto the ends of the earth.

²³ And he turned to his disciples, and said privately: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. ²⁴ For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

²² You are to say to Pharaoh, 'This is what the LORD says: "Israel is my firstborn son. ²³ And I say to you, 'Let my son go so he may serve me.' If you refuse to let him go, then, I will kill your firstborn son."'"

¹² "Honor your father and your mother, so that your days can be long on the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

³ Each of you must revere your mother and your father, and you must keep my Sabbaths; I am the LORD your God.

¹⁶ Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that your days may be made longer, and that it may go well with you in the land which the LORD your God gives you.

²⁸ And I chose him from all the tribes of Israel to be a priest to me, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, and to bear an ephod before me. I gave to the house of your ancestor all the offerings made by fire by the Israelites. ²⁹ Why do you despise my sacrifice and my offering which I commanded for my dwelling place, while you honored your sons more than me by making yourselves fat from the best of all the offerings of my people Israel? ³⁰ Therefore the LORD the God of Israel says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before Me forever'. But now the LORD says, 'Far be it from Me. Those who honour Me I will honour, and those who despise Me shall be despised.

¹¹ There is a generation that curse their father, and do not bless their mother.

¹⁷ The eye that mocks his father, and rejects obedience to his mother, the ravens of the valley pick it out, and the young eagles eat it.

² Hear, heavens, and listen, earth, for the LORD has spoken: "I reared children and I brought them up, but they rebelled against me.

⁸ But now, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay and you our potter and we are all the work of your hand.

²¹ I planted you myself as a choice vine, from the very best seed. How did you turn against me into a degenerate and foreign vine? ²² Though you wash yourself with lye and use much soap, the stain of your guilt is still before me," declares the Lord GOD.

³⁰ An astounding and horrible thing has happened in the land. ³¹ "The prophets prophesy falsely, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?

¹¹ "For both prophet as well as priest are godless, even in my temple I have found their wickedness," declares the LORD.

⁹ They'll come crying, and I'll lead them as they pray for mercy. I'll make them walk by streams of water, along a straight path on which they won't stumble. For I am Israel's father, and Ephraim is my firstborn."

²⁶ her priests do violence to my law, and profane my holy things: they put no difference between the holy and profane, neither do they make known [the difference] between the unclean and the clean, and they hide their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.

⁶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you may be no priest to Me. Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children.

¹ "Hear this, O you priests and pay attention, O house of Israel. Give ear (listen)! O house of the king the judgment is about you. You have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread upon Tabor.

⁸ Ephraim said, "Surely I have become rich, I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won't find in me any iniquity that is sin."

⁸ "But you priests turned aside from the way, and by your teaching you caused many to stumble. You have violated the covenant of Levi," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.

¹⁴ Yet you ask, 'For what reason?' Because the LORD acts as a witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you broke faith with her, your partner, the wife of your covenant. ¹⁵ Did he not make them one? And the vestige of the spirit remains in him. And why did he make them one? He was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and don't break faith with the wife of your youth. ¹⁶ "For I hate divorce," says the LORD, the God of Israel, "and he who covers his clothing with violence," says the LORD of hosts. "You must be attentive to your spirit and you must not be unfaithful." ¹⁷ "You have wearied the LORD with your words. You ask, 'How have we wearied you?' By your saying 'All who do evil are good in the eyes of the LORD and he's pleased with them,' or 'Where is the God of justice?'"

⁹ So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name,

¹⁴ For if you forgive men their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ »If you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

²¹ "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.

⁴ For God said: ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’

⁶ he need not honor his father or mother with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

¹⁹ honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself.’”

¹⁰ For Moses said, ‘Honor your Father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever curses his father or mother must be put to death.’

¹⁹ You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'"

³⁶ Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

⁴⁶ "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?

²⁰ You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.'"

¹³ You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right: that is what I am. ¹⁴ So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. ¹⁵ I have set you an example so that you should do as I have done for you. ¹⁶ Truly, truly, I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. ¹⁷ If you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

² "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with a promise:

¹ As many as are under the yoke of slavery should consider their own owners to be worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and doctrine not be slandered. ² Moreover, those who have believing masters should be respectful to them, because they are fellow believers. In fact, they must serve them even better, because those who benefit from their service are believers and dear to them. These are the things you must teach and exhort.

⁹ Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not to talk back to them, ¹⁰ and not to steal, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in everything they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

¹⁷ Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives in reverent fear during your temporary stay on earth.

¹⁷ Treat everyone with high regard: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king. ¹⁸ Servants, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but even to those who are unreasonable. ¹⁹ For it is commendable if someone endures pain, suffering unjustly, because of conscience toward God.

¹¹ "'Every grain offering you bring to the LORD must be made without yeast. Do not use yeast or honey in food offered to the LORD.

⁶ They shall be holy to their God, and not profane the name of their God; for they offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire, the food of their God; therefore they shall be holy.

²¹ If it has any defect—is lame or blind, or has any defect whatever, you shall not sacrifice it to the LORD your God.

¹⁵ But even before they burned the fat, the servant of the priest would come and say to the person offering the sacrifice, "Give me meat to roast for the priest. He won't accept boiled meat from you, but only raw." ¹⁶ If the man said to him, Let the fat be burned first, and then take as much as you want; he would say, No, give it to me now, and if you don't, I will take it by force. ¹⁷ The sin of the young men was very great before the LORD; for the men despised the LORD's offering.

²² The altar of wood was three cubits high, and its length two cubits; and its corners, and its length, and its walls, were of wood: and he said to me, This is the table that is before the LORD.

⁸ When you bring blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? And when you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Offer that to your governor would he be pleased with you or receive you favorably?" asks the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.

¹² "But you profane it, in that you say, 'The LORD's table is defiled, and its fruit, its food, is despised.'

²¹ You cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons: you cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of demons.

²¹ For in eating every one goes ahead with out waiting for everybody else. One is hungry and another is drunk. ²² What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? No, I will not.

²⁷ Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. ²⁸ Each one must examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. ²⁹ For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. ³⁰ That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. ³¹ For if we were judging ourselves, we would not come under judgment. ³² But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.

¹⁹ "'The offering must be a male that has no defects from your cattle, sheep, or goats in order to be accepted. ²⁰ "'Do not bring any animal with a physical defect. This is because it will not be acceptable for you. ²¹ And if anyone brings a sacrifice of fellowship offerings for the LORD to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering from the cattle or from the flock, it must be without defect to be acceptable; there must not be any physical defect in it. ²² You shall not offer what is blind, is injured, is maimed, has a wart, is festering, or has a running sore to the LORD, nor make an offering by fire of them on the altar to the LORD. ²³ "'You may use a bull or a sheep with a deformity or one that is stunted in growth as a freewill offering. However, it will not be accepted for a vow. ²⁴ You must not offer to the LORD that which has its testicles bruised, crushed, broken, or cut. You must not do this in your land. ²⁵ "'Never bring any kind of castrated animal received from a foreigner as a food offering for your God. A castrated animal will not be accepted on your behalf because castration is a physical defect.'"

⁸ "So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You did not speak correctly about me, as my servant Job has."

³ May He remember all your sacrifices, and accept your whole burnt offerings. Pause.

¹⁰ Thus says the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not restrained their feet, therefore the LORD does not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and punish their sins.

¹³ They offer sacrifices of my choice and they eat flesh; the LORD does not accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity and punish their sins; they will return to Egypt.

¹⁰ "Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors and not light useless fires on the altar! I'm not pleased with you," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "and I'll accept no offerings from you.

¹³ "And you say 'What a burden!' and sniff contemptuously at it," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "when you present maimed, crippled, and diseased animals, and when you bring the offering. Should I accept this from your hand?" asks the LORD. ¹⁴ "Cursed is the one who cheats, who has in his flock a male and vows it, but instead sacrifices a blemished one to the Lord! For I am a great king," says the LORD of hosts, "and my name is awesome among the nations."

¹¹ And Moses implored the LORD his God, and he said, "Why, the LORD, should your anger blaze against your people whom you brought up from the land of Egypt with great power and with a strong hand?

²⁷ And the priests and the Levites arose and blessed the people, and their voice was heard, and their prayer went up unto his holy dwelling place heaven.

¹⁹ "Did Hezekiah king of Judah or anyone in Judah kill him? Didn't he fear the LORD and seek the LORD's favor, and so the LORD changed his mind about the disaster that he had spoken to them about. We're bringing great disaster on ourselves.

¹⁸ But if they are prophets, and if the Word of the LORD is with them, let them now pray to the LORD Almighty, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, may not go to Babylon.

¹⁹ Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches! Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift up your hands toward him for the life of your young children, who faint for hunger at the head of every street.

¹³ Gird yourselves, and lament, you priests: wail, you ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God: for the grain offering and the drink offering is withheld from the house of your God. ¹⁴ Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders, and all the inhabitants of the land, to the house of the LORD, your God, and cry to the LORD.

¹⁷ Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, "Spare your people, LORD, and do not give your heritage to mockery, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?'"

¹ And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. ² The LORD said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, Satan. Yes, the LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you. Isn't this a burning stick plucked out of the fire?" ³ Now Joshua was clothed with filthy clothes, and stood before the Angel. ⁴ So the angel continued to tell those who were standing in his presence, "Remove his filthy clothes." And he said to Joshua, "Look how I've removed your iniquity. Now I'm clothing you with fine garments." ⁵ I said, "Let them set a clean turban on his head." So they set a clean turban on his head, and clothed him; and the angel of the LORD was standing by.

³¹ We know that God does not listen to sinners, but He does listen to the one who worships Him and does His will.

¹⁵ But the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" ¹⁶ The man who had the evil spirit jumped on them, and overpowered them. He gave them such a beating that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

¹¹ For God does not show favoritism.

²⁶ We need such a high priest {— } one who is holy, innocent, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. ²⁷ Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; He sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself.

⁹ And Satan answering, said: Doth Job fear God in vain? ¹⁰ Have you not put a fence around him and his household and around all that belongs to him on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock has increased in the land. ¹¹ However, stretch out your hand and strike everything he owns, and he will curse you to your face."

¹¹ What is the abundance of your sacrifices to me? says the LORD. I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened animals and I do not delight in the blood of bulls and ram-lambs and goats. ¹² When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies. ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth; they are become a burden unto me; I am weary to bear them, ¹⁵ "When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you. Even though you offer many prayers, I will not listen because your hands are full of blood.

¹¹ They are dogs with mighty appetites. They never have enough! They are shepherds who lack understanding. They all turn to their own way and each one seeks dishonest (unjust) gain. ¹² "Come, each one cries, let me get wine! Let us drink our fill of beer! And tomorrow will be like today, or even far better."

¹³ For from the least of them even to the greatest, all are given to covetousness: and from the prophet even to the priest, all are guilty of deceit.

²⁰ "What purpose does frankincense come to me from Sheba and the sweet cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable and your sacrifices are not pleasing to me."

¹⁰ Therefore I will give their wives to others, their fields to conquerors, because from the smallest to the greatest, all of them make profit for unlawful gain, from prophet to priest, all of them practice deceit.

¹² Although they fast, I won't listen to their cry, and although they offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, I won't accept them. Instead, I'll put an end to them with the sword, with famine, and with a plague."

⁶ They will go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD, but they will not find him; he has withdrawn from them.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can’t stand your solemn assemblies. ²² Yes, even if you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them, and I will not look at the fellowship offerings of your fattened animals. ²³ Take away from me the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. ²⁴ But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

¹¹ Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on the LORD, and say, “Isn’t the LORD among us? No disaster will come on us.”

¹² The hired hand is not the shepherd, and the sheep are not his own. When he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf pounces on them and scatters the flock.

¹³ Do you not know that those who work in the temple get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar?

²¹ For everyone else is looking out for his own interests, not for those of Jesus Christ.

³⁸ But my righteous one will live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul is not well pleased with him."

² Be shepherds of God's flock that is among you, watching over it, not because you must but because you want to, and not greedily but eagerly, as God desires.

²⁷ All the limits of the earth shall remember and return to the LORD, And all the families of the nations shall bow down before Him." ²⁸ Because the kingship belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations. ²⁹ All the fat ones of the earth will eat and worship. All those who go down to the dust will bow before him, even he who cannot keep his soul alive. ³⁰ Posterity shall serve him. Future generations shall be told about the Lord. ³¹ They will come and tell his saving deeds to a people yet to be born, that he has done it.

¹ The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks, and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.

² that your way may be known upon earth, your salvation among all nations.

¹¹ Yes, all kings will bow down before him. All nations will serve him. ¹² For he will deliver the needy who crieth, and the afflicted, who hath no helper; ¹³ He will have pity on the poor and needy, he will save the needy persons. ¹⁴ He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence; And precious will their blood be in his sight: ¹⁵ And he shall live, and the gold of Sheba shall be given to him. Men shall pray for him continually. He shall bless him all day long. ¹⁶ Abundance of grain shall be throughout the land. Its fruit sways like Lebanon. Let it flourish, thriving like the grass of the field. ¹⁷ His name endures forever, his name continues as long as the sun. Men shall be blessed in him, all nations will call him blessed.

¹ Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things. His right hand, and his holy arm, have worked salvation for him. 2 the LORD has made his salvation known. He has uncovered his righteousness for the nations to see. ³ He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

³ From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised.

² Let my prayer be set before you like incense; the lifting up of my hands like the evening sacrifice.

⁹ They will not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. ¹⁰ In that day the root of Jesse, who standeth for an ensign of the people, him the Gentiles shall beseech, and his sepulchre shall be glorious.

¹⁴ They raise their voices and shout for joy. From the west they acclaim the LORD's majesty. ¹⁵ Therefore in the east give glory to the LORD. Exalt the name of the LORD the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea. ¹⁶ From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs: 'Glory to the righteous.' But I say: I waste away, I waste away, woe is me! The treacherous deal treacherously; yea, the treacherous deal very treacherously.

¹⁰ Sing to the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, the islands and their inhabitants. ¹¹ Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, the villages where Kedar dwells. Let the dwellers of the rock sing, let them shout from the mountain tops. ¹² Let them give glory to the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.

⁶ So that they know from the rising of the sun, And from the west, that there is none besides Me, I am the LORD, and there is none else,

²² Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other. ²³ By myself have I taken an oath, a true word has gone from my mouth, and will not be changed, that to me every knee will be bent, and every tongue will give honour.

⁶ yes, he says, It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved of Israel. I will also give you for a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth. ⁷ Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to the one who is despised, to the abhorred of the nation, the servant of rulers: "Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall worship; because of the LORD who is faithful, even the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you."

²² Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will lift up my hand to the Gentiles, and will set up my standard to the people. And they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and carry thy daughters upon their shoulders. ²³ Kings shall be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers. They will bow down to you with their faces to the earth, and lick the dust of your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD; and those who wait for me shall not be disappointed.”

¹ "Sing joyfully, O barren woman, you who never bore a child! Burst into song and shout for joy, you who were never in labor! More are the children of the desolate woman than of the woman, who has a husband," proclaims the LORD. ² "Enlarge the place of your tent. Stretch your tent curtains wide and do not hold back. Lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes. ³ "For you will spread out to the right and to the left. Your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities.

⁵ "For your Maker is your husband. the LORD Almighty is his name! The Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer. He is called the God of all the earth.

¹⁹ That they may revere—From the West the name of the LORD, And from the Rising of the Sun his glory, For he will come in like a rushing stream, the breath of the LORD, driving it on;

¹ Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. ² For look! darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples, but the LORD will rise on you, and his glory will appear over you. ³ Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. ⁴ "Look up, look around, and watch. All of your people assemble and come to you. Your sons come from far away. Your daughters are carried in their arms. ⁵ "Then you will see this and rejoice. Your heart will shake with joy. The riches of the sea will be brought to you. The wealth of the nations will come to you. ⁶ »Many camels will cover your land, young camels from Midian and Ephah. Everyone from Sheba will come. They will bring gold and incense. They will sing the praises of the LORD. ⁷ All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered together to you. The rams of Nebaioth will serve you. They will be accepted as offerings on my altar; and I will beautify my glorious house. ⁸ "Who are these people that fly by like clouds and like doves to their nests? ⁹ Surely the islands shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring your sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, for the name of the LORD your God, and for the Holy One of Israel, because he has glorified you. ¹⁰ “Foreigners will build up your walls, and their kings will serve you: for in my wrath I struck you, but in my favor I have had mercy on you. ¹¹ "Your gates will always be open. They will never be closed day or night so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations. Even their kings are led as prisoners.

¹⁶ You will also drink the milk of the nations, and will nurse from royal breasts. Then you will know that I, the LORD, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. ¹⁷ For bronze I will bring gold; for iron I will bring silver; for wood, bronze, and for stones, iron. I will also make peace your governor, and righteousness your ruler. ¹⁸ Violence will no more be heard in your land, desolation nor destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise. ¹⁹ The sun will be no more your light by day; nor will the brightness of the moon give light to you, but the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. ²⁰ Your sun will no more go down, nor your moon withdraw; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning will be ended. ²¹ "Then all your people will be righteous and they will possess the land everlastingly. They will be the seedlings I have planted, the honored work of my hands. ²² The little one shall become a thousand, and the smallest a mighty nation: I, the LORD, will hasten it in its time.

¹⁹ "I will set up a sign among them and send some of their survivors to the nations: to Tarshish, Put and Lud, Meshech, Rosh, Tubal, Javan, and to the distant coastlands who have not heard of my fame or seen my glory. They will tell about my glory among the nations. ²⁰ They will bring all your brothers from every nation like a grain offering to the LORD. They will come on horses, in chariots, in wagons, on mules and camels to my holy mountain, Jerusalem, declares the LORD. They will come like the people of Israel who bring their grain offerings in clean dishes to the LORD’s temple.

¹² so that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all the nations on whom My name is called, declares the LORD who is doing this.

¹¹ The LORD shall be grim upon them, and destroy all the goods in the land. And all the Isles of the Heathen shall worship him, every man in his place.

⁹ For then I will purify the lips of the peoples, that they may all call on the name of the LORD, to serve him shoulder to shoulder.

⁷ Thus said the LORD Almighty: "Behold! I will save my people from the land of the east and from the land of the west.

²⁰ Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come; ²¹ and the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to supplicate the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also. ²² And many peoples and powerful nations will come to seek Yahweh of hosts in Jerusalem, and to entreat ⌊the favor of⌋ Yahweh.' ²³ Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'In those days ten men from all the nations of every language will take hold of the hem of a Judean man, saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you!" '"

⁹ So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, ¹⁰ Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

¹⁹ Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

¹⁰ And, as it was the Hour of Incense, the people were all praying outside.

²¹ Jesus said to her, "Believe me, woman, the time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. ²² You worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. ²³ But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him.

³⁰ Cornelius answered: “Four days ago, I was in my house praying at this, the ninth hour. Suddenly a man in radiant clothing stood before me ³¹ and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard. God has remembered your gifts to the poor ³² Therefore send to Joppa for Simon, who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, by the sea.’ ³³ So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. All of us are here now in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has ordered you to say." ³⁴ Then Peter began to speak: “I now truly understand that God does not show favoritism, ³⁵ but welcomes those from every nation who fear Him and do what is right.

¹⁷ so that the remnant of men may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who bear My name, says the Lord who does these things ¹⁸ that have been known for ages.’

¹ Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

⁹ so that the Gentiles may glorify God for His mercy. As it is written: “Therefore I will praise You among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to Your name.” ¹⁰ Again, it says: “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people.” ¹¹ and again, "Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and praise him, all you peoples";

¹⁶ to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an acceptable offering to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ I have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.

⁸ Therefore, I want men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.

¹⁵ Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that confess His name. ¹⁶ And do not neglect to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

⁸ And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb; each one had a harp, and they had golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

³ Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. And he was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne. ⁴ The smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel's hand.

¹⁵ Then the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."

⁴ Who will not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed.”

⁴ Some foreigners among the Israelites had a strong craving for other kinds of food. Even the Israelites cried again and said: "If only we had meat to eat! ⁵ We remember the fish that we ate in Egypt for nothing, the cucumber, melon, leek, the onions, and the garlic. ⁶ "Now we have lost our appetite! Everywhere we look there is nothing but manna!" ⁷ The manna was like coriander seed, and it looked like bdellium. ⁸ The people went about and gathered it, and they ground it with mills or crushed it with mortar. Then they boiled it in a pot and made it into bread-cakes; and it tasted like olive oil cakes.

¹⁴ But because you have utterly scorned the LORD in this matter, the son born for you will certainly die."

²¹ But I had respect for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations where they went. ²² Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord, I deal thus with you, not for your sakes, house of Israel, but only for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you went. ²³ I will sanctify my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD,” says the Sovereign LORD, “when I am proven holy in you before their eyes.

³ Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God in Jerusalem. And the king, and his rulers, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them. ⁴ As they drank the wine, they praised gods of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone.

⁷ they trample on the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and deny justice to the oppressed; and a man and his father use the same girl, to profane My holy name;

⁶ "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me? says the LORD of hosts to you, priests, who despise my name. You say, 'How have we despised your name?' ⁷ By presenting defiled food on my altar. And you ask 'How have we defiled you?' By saying 'The Table of the LORD is contemptible.' ⁸ When you bring blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? And when you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Offer that to your governor would he be pleased with you or receive you favorably?" asks the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.

¹³ "And you say 'What a burden!' and sniff contemptuously at it," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "when you present maimed, crippled, and diseased animals, and when you bring the offering. Should I accept this from your hand?" asks the LORD.

²⁴ As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”

⁸ He shall not eat a naturally dead body or a mangled carcass, so that he becomes unclean by it; I am the LORD.

¹⁹ "'The offering must be a male that has no defects from your cattle, sheep, or goats in order to be accepted. ²⁰ "'Do not bring any animal with a physical defect. This is because it will not be acceptable for you. ²¹ And if anyone brings a sacrifice of fellowship offerings for the LORD to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering from the cattle or from the flock, it must be without defect to be acceptable; there must not be any physical defect in it. ²² You shall not offer what is blind, is injured, is maimed, has a wart, is festering, or has a running sore to the LORD, nor make an offering by fire of them on the altar to the LORD. ²³ "'You may use a bull or a sheep with a deformity or one that is stunted in growth as a freewill offering. However, it will not be accepted for a vow.

²⁹ Why do you despise my sacrifice and my offering which I commanded for my dwelling place, while you honored your sons more than me by making yourselves fat from the best of all the offerings of my people Israel?

¹² When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts?

²² Yet you have not called upon me, O Jacob, but you have been weary of me, O Israel. ²³ You have not brought me from your sheep for burnt offerings, nor have you honored me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with offerings, nor wearied you with frankincense.

⁶ Among the smooth stones of the valley is your portion. They, they are your lot, even to them you have poured a drink offering; you have offered an oblation. Shall I be appeased for these things?

⁹ Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations? ¹¹ "Has this house, called by my name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Behold, I, even I, have seen it," declares the LORD.

²¹ Thus says the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, "Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh. ²² But when I brought your fathers out of Egypt, I spake no word unto them of burnt offerings and sacrifices: ²³ but I did give them this command: Obey me and I'll be your God, and you will be my people. Walk in all the ways that I command you so it will go well for you. ²⁴ But they did not listen, nor bow their ear, but walked in their own plans, in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward.

¹⁴ Then I said, “Ah Sovereign LORD! Behold, my soul has not been polluted; for from my youth up even until now I have not eaten of that which dies of itself, or is torn of animals. No abominable meat has come into my mouth!”

³¹ The priests eat not of any carcase or torn - flyer or animal.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can’t stand your solemn assemblies. ²² Yes, even if you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them, and I will not look at the fellowship offerings of your fattened animals. ²³ Take away from me the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.

⁵ saying, 'When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may market wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel large, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit;

³ My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me!

⁵ "Say to all the people of the land and to the priests: 'When you fasted and lamented in the fifth and seventh months for these seventy years, did you really fast for me? ⁶ And when you are feasting and drinking, are you not doing it only for yourselves?

¹³ "This is another thing you do: you flood the altar of the LORD with tears, weeping and wailing because he no longer pays attention to your offering nor takes pleasure in it from your hand.

¹ Be careful not to perform your righteous acts before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. ² So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be praised by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.

⁵ And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.

¹⁶ When you fast, do not be somber like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward.

⁴ But some of those present expressed their indignation to one another: “Why this waste of perfume? ⁵ It could have been sold for over three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor.” And they scolded her.

³⁷ Then he return'd, and having found them sleeping, he said to Peter, Simon, are you asleep? could you not watch one hour? ³⁸ Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”

¹² What if my father touches me? I will seem to him as a deceiver, and I would bring a curse on myself, and not a blessing."

⁵⁸ If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, the LORD your God,

¹¹ "Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things and put them in their own possessions. ¹² Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.

² (47:3) For the LORD is most high, awful; a great King over all the earth.

² Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion, on the north sides, the city of the great King.

³⁵ You are awesome, God, in your sanctuaries. The God of Israel gives strength and power to his people. Praise be to God!

¹² He humbles the spirit of princes. He is feared by the kings of the earth.

³ For the LORD is a great God, a great King above all gods.

⁴ When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for he takes no pleasure in fools. Fulfill what you vow! ⁵ It is better not to vow, than to vow and not perform.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy: "I reside in a high and holy place, and with the contrite and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

¹⁰ But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king. Because of his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his anger.

¹⁰ Cursed is he who does the work of the LORD negligently; and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood.

³⁷ Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and exalt and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth and His ways judgment. And those who walk in pride He is able to humble.

⁴ I prayed to the LORD my God, and made this confession, "O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments.

⁹ The LORD will be king over all the earth at that time. There will be one LORD, and his name the only one.

¹¹ For from the east to the west, My name shall be great among the nations, and everywhere incense shall be offered to My name; and a pure food offering; for My name shall be great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts.

⁹ You are cursed under the curse the entire nation because you are robbing me!"

³⁵ or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.

⁵¹ and he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁴¹ As Jesus was sitting opposite the treasury, He watched the crowd placing money into it. And many rich people put in large amounts. ⁴² And one poor widow came and put in two small copper coins (that is, a penny). ⁴³ And he called his disciples to him, and said to them, Truly I say to you, That this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others: ⁴⁴ For they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in everythingall she had to live on."

⁸ She has done what she could. She poured perfume on my body in preparation for my burial.

¹ In the meantime, a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling one another. Jesus began to speak first to His disciples: “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ² There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.

⁴⁶ the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour he is not aware of, and he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

¹ Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. ² With his wife's full knowledge he kept back some of the money for himself and brought the remainder and laid it at the apostles' feet. ³ Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and withhold some of the proceeds from the land? ⁴ Did it not belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? How could you conceive such a deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God!” ⁵ On hearing these words, Ananias fell down and died. And great fear came over all who heard what had happened. ⁶ Then the young men stepped forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him. ⁷ About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened; ⁸ “Tell me,” said Peter, “is this the price you and your husband got for the land?” “Yes,” she answered, “that is the price.” ⁹ Peter said to her, "How could both of you agree in such a way to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door; they will carry you out, too." ¹⁰ At that instant she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and found her dead. So they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

¹² For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.

¹⁵ Which he will bring about in his own time, he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

⁸ But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”
