Luke 18 Cross References - VIN

1 Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and never despair. 2 He said: "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man. 3 And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' 4 For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God or respect men, 5 yet because this widow bothers me, I will protect her, so that she may not finally wear me out with her coming.' " 6 And the Lord said: Hear what the unjust judge says; 7 And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? 8 I tell you, he will give them justice quickly. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?" 9 To some who trusted in their own righteousness and viewed others with contempt, He also told this parable: 10 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all that I get.' 13 But the tax-collector stood at a distance and would not even lift his eyes to heaven, but continued to beat his breast, and say, 'O God, have mercy on me, a sinner!' 14 I tell you, this man, rather than the Pharisee, went home justified. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” 15 They were also bringing their babies to him, that he might touch them. But when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, if anyone does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child, he will never enter it.” 18 A certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 19 “Why do you call Me good?” Jesus replied. “No one is good except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.'" 21 “All these have I kept from my youth,” he said. 22 Now when Jesus heard this, he said to him, You still lack one thing: sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. 23 But when he heard this he became very sad, because he was extremely rich. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." 26 Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?” 27 But he said, What is impossible with men is possible with God. 28 Peter said: "Indeed we have left our own to follow you." 29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life." 31 And he took the Twelve aside and said to them, "See! we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything written in the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. 32 He will be handed over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. 33 and the third day he shall rise again. 34 But the disciples did not understand any of these things. The meaning was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend what He was saying. 35 As he approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by." 38 He called out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me." 39 Those who led the way rebuked him, that he should be quiet; but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me." 40 Then Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, I want to see again!" 42 Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you." 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, glorifying God. And all the people who saw this gave praise to God.

My door is already shut and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, though he will not get up and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as much as he needs. 9 So I tell you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

For you do not judge for man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment. 7 So let the fear of the LORD rest upon you, be on your guard, and act carefully, because with the LORD our God there is neither injustice, nor partiality, nor bribery." 8 In Jerusalem also Josaphat appointed some of the priests and Levites and patriarchs of Israel, for the judgment of the Lord, and to judge the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 9 He told them: »Faithfully serve the LORD!

One struck the other and killed him. 7 Behold, the whole family has risen against your servant, and they say, 'Deliver him who struck his brother, that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he killed, and so destroy the heir also.' Thus they would quench my coal which is left, and would leave to my husband neither name nor remainder on the surface of the earth.” 8 The king said to the woman, "Go to your house, and I will give a command concerning you." 9 And the woman of Tekoah said to the king, My lord, O king, may the iniquity be on me and on my father's house. And may the king and his throne be without guilt. 10 The king said, “Whoever says anything to you, bring him to me, and he will not bother you any more.” 11 Then she said, "Please let the king remember the LORD your God, that the avenger of blood destroy not any more, lest they destroy my son." He said, "As the LORD lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground." 12 Then the woman said, “Please let your servant speak a word to my lord the king.” He said, “Say on.” 13 The woman said, "But why have you plotted like this against the people of God? By speaking this word, he is guilty not to bring back his banished one. 14 For we must die and are as water split on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; God does not take away life, but devises means that he who is banished is not an outcast from him. 15 Now I have come to speak this word to my lord the king, because the people made me afraid, and your servant thought, 'I will speak to the king, perhaps the king will grant the request of his servant. 16 Because the king will hear, let him deliver his servant out of the hand of the man who seeketh to remove me and my son from the inheritance of the Lord. 17 Then your servant said, May the word of my lord the king give me peace! for my lord the king is as the angel of God in his hearing of good and bad: and may the Lord your God be with you! 18 Then the king answered the woman, Please don't hide anything from me that I ask you. The woman said, Let my lord the king now speak. 19 The king said, “Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?” The woman answered, “As your soul lives, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has spoken; for your servant Joab urged me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your servant. 20 Your servant Joab has done this thing to change the face of the matter. My lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.” 21 Then the king said to Joab, "Look, please, I will grant this thing. Go and bring back the young man Absalom." 22 Joab fell with his face to the ground and did obeisance. And he blessed the king, and he said, "Today your servant knows that I have found favor in your eyes, my lord the king, in that the king has granted the request of his servant." 23 Joab went to Geshur and brought Absalom back to Jerusalem. 24 And the king said, Let him go to his house, but let him not see my face. What then will there be for us?” 28 Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields on account of my name will receive a hundred times as much, and will inherit eternal life. 30 "But many who are first shall be last, and many who are last shall be first.

7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "You shall not covet." 8 But sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from the Law, sin is dead. 9 Once I was alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. 10 So I discovered that the very commandment that was meant to bring life actually brought death. 11 For sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through the commandment put me to death.

For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” 11 And it is clear that no one is justified before God by the Law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.” 12 The Law, however, is not based on faith; on the contrary, “The one who does these things will live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”

It is by grace you have been saved! 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages, he might show the surpassing riches of his grace in kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.

Psalms 22:1-31

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning? 2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not answer; and in the night, and am not silent. 3 Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. 4 In You our fathers trusted; They trusted, and You delivered them." 5 They cried to you, and were delivered. They trusted in you, and were not disappointed. 6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by humankind and despised by people. 7 All who see me deride me; they bust out the lip, they shake the head, 8 "He trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him. Let him rescue him, since he delights in him." 9 But you brought me out of the womb. You made me trust while at my mother's breasts. 10 On you I was cast from the womb. From my mother's belly you have been my God. 11 Don’t be far from me, for trouble is near. For there is no one to help. 12 Many bulls have surrounded me, strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me. 13 they gape on me with their mouths as a tearing and a roaring lion. 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it is melted within me. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; and you have brought me into the dust of death. 16 For dogs have surrounded me; a gang of evil-doers has encircled me. They pierced my hands and my feet. 17 I can count all my bones. People stare and gloat over me. 18 They divide My garments among them and cast lots for My clothing. 19 But You, O LORD, be not far off; O My Strength, hurry to help Me! 20 Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog. 21 Save me from the mouth of the lion, and from the horns of the wild oxen answer me. 22 I will declare your name to my brothers. Among the assembly, I will praise you. 23 You who fear the LORD, praise him. All you descendants of Jacob, glorify him. Revere him, all you descendants of Israel. 24 For He has not despised nor hated the affliction of the afflicted; and He has not hidden His face from him, but when he cried to Him, He heard. 25 From you comes my praise in the great assembly. I will pay my vows before those who fear him. 26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD shall praise Him; your heart shall live forever. 27 All the limits of the earth shall remember and return to the LORD, And all the families of the nations shall bow down before Him." 28 Because the kingship belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations. 29 All the fat ones of the earth will eat and worship. All those who go down to the dust will bow before him, even he who cannot keep his soul alive. 30 Posterity shall serve him. Future generations shall be told about the Lord. 31 They will come and tell his saving deeds to a people yet to be born, that he has done it.

Psalms 69:1-36

1 Save me, God, for the waters have come up to my neck. 2 I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold. I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. 3 I am weary with my crying. My throat is dry. My eyes fail looking for my God. 4 Those who hate me without cause are more than the hairs of my head. My persecutors are mighty, and they want to destroy me. Must I be forced to return what I did not steal? 5 God, you know my sins, and my guilt is not hidden from you. 6 Let those who wait for you not be put to shame because of me, O Sovereign LORD Almighty. Let those who seek you not be disgraced because of me, O God of Israel. 7 For I have suffered reproach for Your sake; shame has covered my face. 8 I am a stranger to my brothers, a foreigner to my mother's sons. 9 Zeal for your house consumes me, and the mockeries of those who insult you fall on me. 10 I weep and fast, and I am mocked for it. 11 When I put on the clothing of grief, they said evil of me. 12 Those who sit at the gate talk of me and I am the song of the drunkards. 13 But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, at a time of favor, O God! in the plentitude of Your mercy answer me, in the truth of Your salvation. 14 Rescue me from the mud and do not let me sink. Rescue me from those who hate me, and from the deep waters. 15 Do not let the torrent of waters flood over me, or the deep swallow me, or the pit close its mouth over me. 16 Answer me, O LORD, because your loyal love is good; according to your abundant mercies, turn to me, 17 Do not hide your face from your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me speedily. 18 Draw near and redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies. 19 You know my reproach and my shame, and my dishonor; my enemies are all before You. 20 Reproach hath broken my heart, and I am overwhelmed: and I looked for sympathy, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. 21 They gave me also gall for my food, and made me drink vinegar for my thirst. 22 Let their table before them become a snare, may it become a retribution and a trap. 23 Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see. Let their backs be continually bent. 24 Pour out Your wrath on them; and let the glow of Your anger overtake them. 25 Let their palace be desolate, and let no one dwell in their tents. 26 For they persecute those whom you have struck, and they brag about the pain of those you have wounded. 27 Charge them with crime upon crime. Do not let them come into your righteousness. 28 Let them be blotted out of the book of life, and not be written with the righteous. 29 But I am in pain and distress. Let your salvation, God, protect me. 30 I will praise the name of God in song, and magnify him with thanksgiving. 31 That will please the LORD more than oxen and bulls with horns and hooves. 32 The humble have seen and are glad; you who seek God, your heart shall live. 33 For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. 34 Let heavens and earth praise him, the seas and all that moves in them, 35 For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah. They shall settle there, and own it. 36 The seed also of his servants will inherit it and those who love his name will dwell in it.

Isaiah 53:1-12

1 Who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him. Nothing in his appearance will make us desire him. 3 He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised, and we esteemed him not 4 He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows. We considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; each one has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he did not open his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who [among them] considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living? for the transgression of my people was he stricken 9 He made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. 10 It was the LORD's will to allow him to be crushed. Even though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand. 11 After his suffering he will see the light and be satisfied. By his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many. He will bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great and he will divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors. Yet he bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors.

Daniel 9:26

I did not tell you this in the beginning, because I was still with you." 5 But now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' 6 But because I have said these things to you, grief has filled your heart. 7 But I tell you the truth, it is for your benefit that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He comes, He will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 in regard to sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me; 11 and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world has been condemned. 12 I have still much to say to you, but you cannot bear it now. 13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come. 14 He will glorify Me by taking from what is Mine and disclosing it to you. 15 Everything that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said that the Spirit will take from what is Mine and disclose it to you. 16 In a little while you will see Me no more, and then after a little while you will see Me.” 17 So some of his disciples said to one another, "What does he mean by telling us, 'In a little while, you will behold me no longer; then, after a little, you shall see me'? and, 'I go to the Father'?" 18 They kept asking, “Why is He saying, ‘a little while’?
