¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil. ² He had seven sons and three daughters. ³ He owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, one thousand head of cattle, and five hundred donkeys. He also had a large number of servants. In fact he was the greatest (richest) of all the Orientals in the East! ⁴ And his sons used to go and hold a feast in the house of each one upon his day; and they would send and invite their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. ⁵ When their time of feasting had concluded, Job would rise early in the morning to send for them and consecrate them to God. He would offer a burnt offering for each one, because Job thought, "Perhaps my children sinned by cursing God in their hearts." Job did this time and again. ⁶ Now on the day when God's sons came to present themselves before the LORD, Satan also came among them. ⁷ So the LORD said to Satan, "From where have you come?" Then Satan answered the LORD and said, "From roaming on the earth and from walking about in it." ⁸ The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil." ⁹ And Satan answering, said: Doth Job fear God in vain? ¹⁰ Have you not put a fence around him and his household and around all that belongs to him on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock has increased in the land. ¹¹ However, stretch out your hand and strike everything he owns, and he will curse you to your face." ¹² The LORD said to Satan, "Look, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself do not put forth your hand." So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD. ¹³ And a day came when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house. ¹⁴ a messenger approached Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the female donkeys were grazing nearby ¹⁵ And the Sabeans rushed in, and took all away, and slew the servants with the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell thee. ¹⁶ While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” ¹⁷ While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you." ¹⁸ While he was still speaking, there also came another and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house. ¹⁹ when a strong wind came straight out of the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on the young people, and they died. I alone escaped to tell you!" ²⁰ And Job rose up and tore his robe, and shaved his head. And he fell down on the ground and worshiped. ²¹ And he said, Naked I came out of my mother's womb and naked I will return there. the LORD gave and the LORD has taken away, praise the name of the LORD. ²² In all this, Job did not sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing.

⁹ This is the ACCOUNT OF NOAH. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. He walked with God.

²³ The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.

¹ Abram was ninety-nine years old. the LORD appeared to him and said: "I am God Almighty. Walk before me and be blameless.

¹² He said, "Do not lay your hand on the boy, neither do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me."

²⁰ After these things, Abraham was told, “Behold, Milcah, she also has borne children to your brother Nahor: ²¹ Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram,

²⁸ These the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran.

²¹ "You shall look for capable men among the people, men who fear God, men of integrity who hate dishonest gain. You shall set these men over them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.

³ "Remember now, LORD, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight." Hezekiah wept bitterly.

¹⁷ The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram. The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshech.

⁴² The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan. The sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran.

²⁰ This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah. He did what was good and right and true to the LORD his God. ²¹ And in every work which he undertook in the service of the house of the Lord, and in the law and in the statutes, he sought his God with his whole heart, and did it and prospered.

⁸ The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil."

³ the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil. He still maintains his integrity, although you incited me against him, to ruin him without cause.”

¹¹ My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned aside. ¹² "I have not departed from the command of his lips. I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

²⁸ And he said unto man, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to eschew evil is understanding.

¹ "I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman. ² "What is man's lot from God above, his heritage from the Almighty on high? ³ "Is it not ruin for the wicked, disaster for those who do wrong? ⁴ "Does he not see my ways and count my every step? ⁵ "If I have walked in falsehood or my foot has hurried after deceit ⁶ "let God weigh me on honest scales and he will know that I am blameless. ⁷ "If my steps have turned from the path, if my heart has been led by my eyes, or if my hands have been defiled, ⁸ then may others eat what I have sown, and may my crops be uprooted. ⁹ "If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or if I have lurked at my neighbor's door, ¹⁰ then may my wife grind another man's grain, and may other men sleep with her. ¹¹ "For that would have been shameful (a crime), a sin to be judged. ¹² for it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all my increase. ¹³ If I have slighted the cause of my man servant or maid servant when they had a controversy with me, ¹⁴ what then will I do when God rises up? When he visits, what will I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he who made me in the womb make him? Did not the same one fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ if I have eaten my morsel alone, and have not shared it with the orphan; ¹⁸ for from my youth I reared the orphan like a father, and from my mother's womb I guided the widow. ¹⁹ If I have seen any perishing for want of clothing, or any needy without covering; ²⁰ If his heart has not blessed me, and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; ²¹ If I have raised a hand against the fatherless, because I had around me greater support: ²² Then let my arm fall from my shoulder-blade, and my arm be broken from the bone. ²³ For I feared destruction from God, against whose highness I could have no power. ²⁴ "If I've put my confidence in gold, if I've said to gold, 'You're my security,' ²⁵ If I have rejoiced over my great riches, and because my hand had gotten much. ²⁶ if I have seen the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in splendor, ²⁷ and I was secretly enticed, and my hand threw them a kiss, ²⁸ this also would be an iniquity for the judges; for I would have denied the God above. ²⁹ "If I have rejoiced at the ruin of the one who hated me or have exulted when evil overtook him— ³⁰ For I have not given my mouth to sin, by wishing a curse to his soul. ³¹ If the men of my tent did not say, Who has not had full measure of his meat? ³² the stranger did not sleep in the street, for I opened my doors to the traveler; ³³ if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart, ³⁴ Have I feared large crowds? Have my family's contempt ever terrified me so that I remained silent and wouldn't go outside." ³⁵ Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold my mark. Let the Almighty answer me, and my Accuser write an indictment. ³⁶ "Surely I would carry it on my shoulder; I would bind it on me like a crown. ³⁷ "I would give him an account of all my steps. Like a prince I would approach him. ³⁸ If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together; ³⁹ If I have eaten its yield without payment, and caused the death of its owners; ⁴⁰ let thorns come forth instead of wheat, and weeds instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil. I hate: pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth.

⁶ Through kindness and truth is iniquity atoned for; and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

²⁰ and all the mixed people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, all the kings of the Philistines, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, you who dwell in the land of Uz; but to you also the cup will pass, you will become drunk and strip yourself bare.

¹⁴ though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would save only their own lives by their righteousness, says the Sovereign LORD.

²⁰ though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, they would save neither son nor daughter; they would save only their own lives by their righteousness.

⁶ They were both upright in the sight of God, blamelessly observing all the Lord's commands and requirements.

¹¹ See how blessed we consider those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen the outcome from the Lord. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

¹¹ He must turn away from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.

¹¹ And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and his many sons, and all to which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

¹³ "Keep silent and let me speak! Then let come to me what may.

¹³ And he had seven sons, and three daughters.

³⁸ And he blesses them and they multiply greatly, and he does not let their cattle become few.

³ Children are an inheritance from the LORD. They are a blessing from him. ⁴ Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. ⁵ Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. They shall not be put to shame when they speak with their enemies in the gate.

³ Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house. Your children will be like olive shoots about your table.

⁵ He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Haran. They set out for the land of Canaan and soon arrived there.

¹⁶ He treated Abram well for her sake. Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female donkeys, menservants and maidservants, and camels.

⁶ But the land could not support them while they stayed together. Their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together.

⁶ While Abraham was still alive, he gave gifts to the sons of Hagar and Keturah. He also sent their sons to live in the east far from his son Isaac.

¹ And Jacob continued his journey and went to the land of the Easterners.

²³ Will not their livestock and their property and all their animals be ours? Only let us give consent to them so they will live among us."

⁷ Balaam delivered this message: "Balak brought me from Aram. The king of Moab summoned me from the eastern mountains. Come and curse Jacob for me," he said. 'Come and condemn Israel.

³² And the spoil which the army had taken, was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep, ^{33 34}

³ When the Israelites planted their crops, the Midianites and the Amalekites along with the desert tribes attacked them.

⁵ They came with their livestock and tents, as thick as locusts. It was impossible to count the men and their camels. They entered the land and destroyed it.

¹² But Madian and Amalec, and all the eastern people, lay scattered in the valley, as a multitude of locusts: their camels also were innumerable, as the sand that lieth on the sea shore.

¹⁰ Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand men, all who were left of all the army of the sons of the east, for there fell a hundred and twenty thousand men who drew a sword.

² There was a man in Maon who had property in Carmel, and the man was very wealthy. He had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats, and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

³⁰ And Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the sons of the east, and than all the wisdom of Egypt.

⁴ Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-master; and he rendered unto the king of Israel the wool of a hundred thousand lambs, and of a hundred thousand rams.

¹⁰ And he built towers in the desert and hewed many cisterns, for he had much livestock, both in the Shephelah and on the plain, along with farmers and vinedressers in the hills and in the fertile lands, for he loved the soil.

²⁹ He made towns for himself. He gathered much property in flocks and herds: for God had given him great wealth.

⁹ Nobles would resfrain from speaking, covering their mouths with their hands. ¹⁰ The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.

²⁵ "I chose their way, and sat as chief. I lived like a king among his troops, like one who comforts mourners.

¹² the LORD blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the first. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys.

²² The blessing of the LORD makes rich and he adds no grief to it.

¹ A song of ascents. Of David. Look, how good and how pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity.

¹ Continue to love [one another] as brothers.

⁵ the LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become. Every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.

²⁰ Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it.

³ Early the next morning Abraham saddled his donkey. He took two of his servants and his son Isaac with him. He had cut the wood for the burnt offering. Then he set out for the place that God had told him about.

² Then Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Get rid of the foreign gods that are in your midst and purify yourselves and change your garments. ³ "After that let us go to Bethel. I will make an altar there to God, who answered me when I was troubled and who has been with me wherever I have gone."

¹² And Jethro, Moses` father-in-law, took a burnt-offering and sacrifices for God; and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses` father-in-law in the presence of God.

¹⁰ And the LORD said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. They must wash their clothes,

⁵ He sent young Israelite men to offer up burnt offerings and sacrifice bulls as peace offerings to the LORD.

³ “'If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without defect. He shall offer it at the door of the Tent of Meeting, that he may be accepted before the LORD. ⁴ " 'He must lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering and it will be accepted for him in order to make atonement for him. ⁵ He must slaughter the young bull before the LORD, then Aaron's sons, the priests, will present the blood and sprinkle the blood all around the altar that is at the door of the tent of assembly. ⁶ He shall skin the burnt offering, and cut it into pieces.

¹⁰ And a son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel and had a fight with a man of Israel by the tents; ¹¹ The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name, and cursed; and they brought him to Moses. His mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan. ¹² They put him in custody, until the will of the LORD should be declared to them. ¹³ And the Lord said to Moses, ¹⁴ Lead the reviler outside the camp; and all that heard [him] shall lay their hands upon his head, and the whole assembly shall stone him. ¹⁵ "Inform the Israelites: 'Those who treat their God with contempt will be punished for their sin. ¹⁶ He who blasphemes the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him: the foreigner as well as the native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.

⁵ He said, "Peace, I've come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice." Samuel consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.

³¹ Elijah took twelve stones, one for each of the tribes of Jacob's descendants, to whom the message from the LORD had come that "Israel shall be your name."

¹⁰ Set two men, base fellows, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, 'You cursed God and the king.' Then carry him out, and stone him to death."

¹³ Then the two men, scoundrels, came, sat opposite him, and the scoundrels witnessed against Naboth before the people, saying, "Naboth cursed God and the king," so they brought him outside of the city and stoned him with stones, and he died.

³⁰ And the priests and the Levites purified themselves; and they purified the people, and the gates and the wall.

¹¹ However, stretch out your hand and strike everything he owns, and he will curse you to your face."

⁹ And his wife said to him, Are you still holding fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!

⁴ "When your children sinned against him, he gave them over to the power of their sin.

¹⁰ "Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?

²⁵ When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid. They retreat before his thrashing.

⁸ "So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You did not speak correctly about me, as my servant Job has."

³ Yahweh, in the morning you will hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do—do it with all your might; for in Sheol—where you are going—no one works, plans, knows, or thinks about anything.

¹⁴ "O Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart so that you may be saved. How long will your wicked thoughts lodge within you?

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and incurable; who can know it? ¹⁰ "I, the LORD, search the heart and examine the mind (inner man). I give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.

²¹ For from within the hearts of men come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, ²² Greed, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, haughtiness, folly; ²³ All these evil things come from inside, and make the man unclean.

⁷⁵ in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

⁷ And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?

⁵⁵ It was the Jewish Passover. Many went out of the country to Jerusalem to purify themselves before the Passover.

²² Repent, therefore, of your wickedness, and pray to the Lord. Perhaps He will forgive you for the intent of your heart.

²⁶ The next day Paul took the men and purified himself along with them. Then he went to the temple to give notice of the date when the days of purification would end and the offering would be made for each one of them.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the proper time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

² I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.

¹⁸ Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.

² The sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful. They married any of them they chose.

⁴ The NEPHILIM were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God had sexual intercourse with the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

¹⁹ Micaiah said, "Therefore hear the word of the LORD. I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

¹ Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to take a census of Israel.

¹ And then one day the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came into their midst to present himself before the LORD.

⁷ while the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

²⁰ Bless the LORD, you his angels, you mighty heroes who do his word by obeying the sound of his word.

²⁵ He said: "Look, I see four men walking in the midst of the fire. They are not hurt! The appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!"

¹ And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.

¹⁰ See that you do not look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

³⁸ the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!”

⁹ And the great dragon was hurled down—the ancient serpent called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. ¹⁰ And I heard a great voice in heaven, saying: Now has come the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren, he that accused them before our God day and night, is cast down.

²⁵ And he went in and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him, Where from, Gehazi? And he said, Your servant did not go here or there.

² And the LORD said to Satan, From where have you come? And Satan answered the LORD and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and walking up and down in it.

¹⁰ The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, They are the ones the LORD has sent to go back and forth through the earth. ¹¹ Then they reported to the angel of the LORD who stood among the myrtle trees, "We have wandered throughout the earth and look! the entire earth is at rest. Everything is quiet and peaceful."

⁷ When the strong horses went out, they were anxious to go to patrol the earth. And he said, "Go, patrol the earth." And they patrolled the earth.

⁴³ When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.

⁸ Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

⁹ And the great dragon was hurled down—the ancient serpent called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

¹² Rejoice then, O heavens and you that dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!" ¹³ When the Dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth he pursued the woman who had given birth to the man-child. ¹⁴ But the woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to her place in the desert, where she is to be taken care of for a time, times, and a half-time, on account of the serpent. ¹⁵ Then from the mouth of the serpent spewed water like a river to overtake the woman and sweep her away in the torrent. ¹⁶ But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed from its mouth. ¹⁷ Then the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

⁸ and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to assemble them for battle. Their number is like the sand of the seashore.

³ Now the man, Moses, was more humble than any other person on the face of the earth,

⁷ But it is not so with my servant Moses who is most faithful in all my house: ⁸ I speak to him audibly and in visions and not in riddles. If he gazes at the image of the LORD, why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?"

⁷ Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which moses my servant commanded you. do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

³⁰ And Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the sons of the east, and than all the wisdom of Egypt. ³¹ For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all the surrounding nations.

²⁵ Never before had there been a king like him, turning to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his power, as the law of Moses says; and after him there was no king like him.

¹⁵ But the former governors that were before me laid burdens upon the people, and took of them for bread and wine above forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants lorded over the people; but so did not I, because of the fear of God.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.

²⁰ "Certainly God does not reject a blameless man or strengthen the hands of evildoers.

²² "It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked. ²³ If a calamity causes sudden death, he'll mock at the despair of the innocent.

⁴ "I have become a laughingstock to my friends! I called upon God and he answered. Yet I am a mere laughingstock, though righteous and blameless!

⁸ Upright men are appalled at this, And the innocent man rouses himself against the polluted, ⁹ »Yet, the righteous person clings to his way, and the one with clean hands grows stronger.

¹⁴ If he set his heart on man, if he gather to himself his spirit and his breath;

⁷ And it happened after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you and your two friends. For you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has. ⁸ "So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You did not speak correctly about me, as my servant Job has."

²³ and I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my guilt.

¹⁴ Turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it.

¹ For the Chief Musician. By David, the servant of the LORD. An oracle is within my heart about the disobedience of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes.

²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good, and you will live in the land forever.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

²⁰ I have found David my servant. With my holy oil I have anointed him,

¹⁶ "Wash yourselves! Become clean! Get your evil deeds out of my sight. Stop doing evil.

¹ "Look my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom my soul delights. I have put my Spirit on him; he will bring justice to the nations.

⁴ And the man said to me, Son of man, look with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and set your heart on all that I shall show you. For in order to show you, you are brought here. Declare to the house of Israel all that you see.

³⁹ And one of the criminals that hung there hurled insults at him, saying: Are not you the Christ? Save yourself and us. ⁴⁰ But the other criminal rebuked him, "Aren't you afraid of God, since you are suffering the same penalty?

⁴⁷ When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, He said of him, “Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.”

²¹ And he said, Naked I came out of my mother's womb and naked I will return there. the LORD gave and the LORD has taken away, praise the name of the LORD.

¹⁰ But he replied to her, "You're talking like foolish women do. Shall we accept what is good from God but not tragedy?" Throughout all of this, Job did not sin by what he said.

¹⁴ "They say to God: 'Leave us alone! We do not desire to know your ways.' ¹⁵ "Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what do we gain if we pray to him?

¹⁰ "Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors and not light useless fires on the altar! I'm not pleased with you," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "and I'll accept no offerings from you.

²⁶ What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

⁸ Now physical exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, holding promises for both this present life and the one to come.

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain.

¹ After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."

¹² Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold. the LORD blessed him.

³⁰ "The little that you had before I came has grown to a large amount. the LORD has blessed you wherever I have been. When may I do something for my own family?"

⁴³ And the man increased exceedingly, and had large flocks, and maid-servants and men-servants, and camels and donkeys.

⁵ And it happened that from the time he appointed him over his house and over all that he had, the LORD blessed the house of the Egyptian on account of Joseph. And the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house and in the field.

²⁵ even by the God of your father, who will help you, by the Almighty, who will bless you, with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb.

¹³ He will love you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the fruit of your land (the grain, new wine, and oil), the offspring of your herds, and the lambs of your flock, in the land that the LORD promised your ancestors he would give you.

² Moreover, all these blessings will come upon you in abundance, if you obey the LORD your God: ³ You shall be blessed in the city, and be blessed in the field. ⁴ The fruit of your body will be blessed and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your beasts, the increase of your cattle and the young of your flock. ⁵ Your basket and your kneading-trough will be blessed. ⁶ You shall be blessed when you come in, and blessed when you go out.

¹¹ Bless, LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands. Smite through the loins of those who rise up against him, and of those who hate him, that they not rise again.

²⁷ The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before you; and shall say, Destroy them.

¹⁶ They were a wall unto us both by night and day all the time that we were feeding the sheep with them.

³ He owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, one thousand head of cattle, and five hundred donkeys. He also had a large number of servants. In fact he was the greatest (richest) of all the Orientals in the East!

⁶ When I bathed my steps in cream, and the rock poured out near me streamlets of oil!

²⁵ If I have rejoiced over my great riches, and because my hand had gotten much.

¹² For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; You will surround him with favor, as with a shield.

⁷ The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

²¹ You will increase my honor and comfort me once again.

¹² Why did you break down its walls so that those who pass by pluck its fruits?

¹⁷ Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.

¹ A song of ascents. Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways. ² for you eat the labor of your palms; blithed - and good with you ³ Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house. Your children will be like olive shoots about your table. ⁴ Look, thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.

² He dug it up, gathered out its stones, planted it with the choicest vine, built a tower in its midst, and also cut out a winepress in it. He looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes.

⁵ Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be eaten up. I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled down.

⁵ And I will be for it a wall of fire all around,' declares the LORD, 'and I will be the glory in its midst.'"

⁸ For thus says the LORD of hosts; After his glory has he sent me unto the nations which plundered you: for he that touches you touches the apple of his eye.

⁵ who through faith are protected by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

¹¹ And Abimelech ordered all the people, saying, He who touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death

⁵ When their time of feasting had concluded, Job would rise early in the morning to send for them and consecrate them to God. He would offer a burnt offering for each one, because Job thought, "Perhaps my children sinned by cursing God in their hearts." Job did this time and again.

¹² The LORD said to Satan, "Look, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself do not put forth your hand." So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

⁵ "But stretch out your hand, and strike his flesh and bones and he will curse you to your face!"

⁵ But now it has come to you, and you are worn out; it touches you, and you are horrified.

²¹ "Have pity on me, my friends! Have pity on me because God's hand has struck me down.

¹⁵ "Do not touch my anointed ones. Do my prophets no harm."

²⁵ Therefore the LORD's anger burns against his people, and he has stretched out his hand against them, and has struck them. The mountains tremble, and their dead bodies are as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this, his anger is not turned away, but his hand is still stretched out.

²¹ And they shall pass by it, they shall fall, and be hungry: and when they shall be hungry, they will be angry, and curse their king, and their God, and look upwards.

¹³ "You have spoken arrogant words against me," says the LORD. "Yet you ask, 'What did we say against you?' ¹⁴ You have said, 'It is useless to serve God! What is the gain if we keep his requirements, and if we walk as mourners before the LORD of hosts?

⁹ Men were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues, and they did not repent and give him glory.

¹¹ and cursed the God of heaven because of their sufferings and sores, but they would not repent of what they had done.

²¹ Huge hailstones, about a hundred pounds each, fell from heaven upon men. And men cursed God for the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible.

⁶ "Your servant is in your hands," Abram said. "Do with her whatever you think best." Then Sarai mistreated Hagar. So she ran away from her.

²³ And now, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

⁴ Satan answered the LORD: "Skin for skin! Certainly, a man will give everything he has for his life. ⁵ "But stretch out your hand, and strike his flesh and bones and he will curse you to your face!" ⁶ the LORD said to Satan, Behold, he is in your hand. Only spare his life. ⁷ So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful sores from the sole of his foot to his head.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man praises you. The survivors of your wrath are restrained.

⁸ By warfare and exile you contend with her. With his fierce blast he drives her out, as on a day the east wind blows.

⁵ King Zedekiah said, "Look, he's in your hands, and the king can do nothing to you."

³² Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter them. So he gave them permission. ³³ Then the demons came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.

³¹ Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. ³² But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

³⁵ The Father loves the Son and has put everything in his hands. ³⁶ Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.”

¹¹ Jesus answered, “You would have no authority over Me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed Me over to you is guilty of greater sin.”

¹³ No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.

⁷ And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me.

⁴ And his sons used to go and hold a feast in the house of each one upon his day; and they would send and invite their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

¹ Do not boast about tomorrow; for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

¹² For man does not know his time. Just as fish are caught in a cruel net and like birds who are seized in a snare, so also humans are ensnared at a cruel time when it falls suddenly upon them.

¹⁹ Then I will say to myself, “You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take it easy. Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul will be demanded of you. Then who will have all you have prepared?'

²⁷ People were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ It was the same in the days of Lot: People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. ²⁹ But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

³⁴ But watch yourselves, or your hearts will be weighed down by dissipation, drunkenness, and the worries of life—and that day will spring upon you suddenly like a snare.

¹⁷ The man who brought the news answered, Israel has fled before the Philistines and there has been a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons Hophni and Phinehas are dead, and the ark of God has been captured.

¹³ A messenger came to David, saying, "The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom."

³¹ Runners run to meet runners. Messengers follow messengers. They inform the king of Babylon that his entire city is captured.

⁷ The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.

²⁸ Obal, Abimael, Sheba,

³ Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan, and the descendants of Dedan were the Asshurim, the Letushim, and the Leummim.

²⁰ One man, Ahimelech's son Abiathar, a grandson of Ahitub, escaped and fled to David. ²¹ Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the priests of the LORD.

¹⁶ While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” ¹⁷ While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you."

¹⁹ when a strong wind came straight out of the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on the young people, and they died. I alone escaped to tell you!"

¹⁹ "The caravans of Tema look for water. The traveling merchants of Sheba hope and wait in vain.

¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring tribute (presents). The kings of Sheba and Seba will offer gifts.

¹⁴ This is what the LORD says: "The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush, and those tall Sabeans will come over to you and will be yours. They will walk behind you. They will come to you in chains. They will bow down before you and plead with you. They will say: 'God is with you and there is no other. There is no other god!'

⁴² "The sound of a carefree multitude was with her. Drunkards were brought from the wilderness with men of the common sort. And they put bracelets on the hands of the women and beautiful crowns on their heads.

⁸ I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans and to a nation far away, for the LORD has spoken.

²⁴ And the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the LORD out of the heavens.

²⁸ "Pray to the LORD! We have had enough of this thunder and hail! I promise to let you go. You do not have to stay here any longer."

²⁴ Fire came out from before the LORD, and consumed the burnt offering and the fat upon the altar. When all the people saw it, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

² And fire went out from before the LORD and consumed them; and they died before the LORD.

¹ Now the people complained about hunger speaking evil in the ears of the LORD, so that when the LORD heard it, his anger flared and the fire of the LORD burned against them and even consumed the outskirts of the camp. ² Then the people cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to the LORD, and the fire died down. ³ That place was called Taberah (Fire) because fire from the LORD burned among them there.

¹⁵ Then panic struck the whole Philistine army, those in the camp, in the field, and among all the outposts and raiding parties, and the ground shook. There was panic.

³⁸ And the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the burnt sacrifice and the wood, and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

¹⁰ Elijah answered to the captain of fifty, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty." Fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹² And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty men. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹⁴ Behold, fire came down from the sky, and consumed the last two captains of fifty with their fifties. But now let my life be precious in your sight.”

⁴ Thus the Sovereign LORD showed me and behold, the Sovereign LORD called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land.

¹³ He performs great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in the sight of men.

²⁸ While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth.

³¹ Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot, son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Haran, they settled there.

³ David asked: "Where did you come from?" The man answered: "I escaped from Israel’s army."

¹⁵ And the Sabeans rushed in, and took all away, and slew the servants with the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell thee.

¹³ Look at the land of the Chaldeans. This is the people that were not. Assyria appointed it for desert creatures. They erected their siege towers and they stripped its palaces. They made it a ruin!

⁶ Watch out! For I am bringing in the Chaldeans, that cruel and impetuous people, who sweep across the earth dispossessing people from homes not their own.

²⁸ Absalom commanded his servants saying, Mark now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, 'Strike Amnon', then kill him. Don't be afraid. Haven't I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant!

¹³ And a day came when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house.

² "If only my anguish could be weighed and all my misery be placed on the scales! ³ "It would surely outweigh the sand of the seas, no wonder my words have been impetuous.

¹⁴ He breached me breach upon breach; he rushes at me like a warrior.

⁹ He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head. ¹⁰ "He beats me down on every side until I am gone. He uproots my hope like a tree.

² Even today my complaint is grievous. His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.

¹⁴ "No mater how many his children, their fate is the sword. His offspring will never have enough to eat.

¹⁹ A righteous person will have many troubles, but the LORD will deliver him from them all.

² The same fate comes to everyone: to the righteous and to the wicked, to the good and to the wicked, to the clean and to the unclean, to those who sacrifice and to those who do not sacrifice. As with the good man, so also to the sinner; as with those who swear an oath, so also those who fear oaths.

¹⁹ As often as it passes through, it will take you, for morning by morning it will pass through, in the day and in the night, and understanding the message will be only terror."

¹² Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look, and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which is brought on me, with which the LORD has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.

⁶ "I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in every town; yet you haven't returned to me," says the LORD. ⁷ "I withheld rain from you three months before the harvest. I caused it to rain on one city, and caused it not to rain on another city. One received rain. The other did not receive rain and it dried up. ⁸ So two or three cities staggered to one city in order to drink water, but they were not satisfied; yet you have not returned to Me, declares the LORD. ⁹ "I afflicted you with blight and fungus; and the locust swarm devoured the harvest of your gardens, your vineyards, your fig trees, and your olive trees, but you have not returned to me," declares the LORD. ¹⁰ "I sent plagues among you like I did Egypt. I have slain your young men with the sword, and have carried away your horses; and I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camp, yet you haven't returned to me," says the LORD. ¹¹ "I overthrew your cities, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. You've become like a burning ember, snatched from the fire, but you have not returned to me," declares the LORD.

³² They took the robe to their father and said: "We found this. Does it belong to your son?" ³³ He recognized it, and said, "It is my son's coat. An evil animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn in pieces."

³⁶ Jacob, their father, said to them, "You have bereaved me of my children. Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All these things are against me."

³⁰ Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines! He pushed with all his might and the house fell on the lords and on all the people who were there. So he killed more in his death than he killed in his life.

³³ The king was much moved, and went up to the room over the gate, and wept. As he went, he said, "My son Absalom. My son, my son Absalom. I wish I had died for you, Absalom, my son, my son."

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city. And there a wall fell on twenty-seven thousand of those remaining. And Ben-hadad fled and came into the city, into an inner room.

¹¹ At that time, it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, "A scorching wind from the barren heights in the desert is coming toward my people, and it's not for winnowing or cleansing. ¹² a wind too strong for these will come for me, now also I speak judgments against them."

²⁷ The rain came down, the floods rose, the winds blew and beat upon that house, and down it fell — with a mighty crash."

¹ Now there were some present at the same time who told him about the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. ² And Jesus answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered this way? ³ No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam collapsed on them: Do you think that they were more sinful than all the others living in Jerusalem? ⁵ No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

⁴ When the islanders saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “Surely this man is a murderer. Although he was saved from the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live.”

² in which you used to walk when you conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience.

²⁹ Reuben returned to the pit; and saw that Joseph wasn't in the pit; and he tore his clothes.

³⁴ Then Jacob rent his cloaths and put on sackcloth on his loins and mourned for his son many days.

¹⁸ And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights, -- I ate no bread and drank no water, -- because of all your sin which ye had sinned, in doing what is evil in the eyes of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁶ David begged God on behalf of the youngster. He fasted, went inside, and spent the night lying on the ground. ¹⁷ The elders of his household stood over him to lift him up from the ground, but he was not willing, and he did not eat any food with them. ¹⁸ On the seventh day the child died. David's servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead. They thought: "While the child was alive, we talked to him, and he would not listen to us. How can we tell him the child is dead? He may harm himself." ¹⁹ David saw that his servants were whispering to one another. He realized (discerned) that the child was dead. "Is the child dead?" David asked them. "Yes, he is dead." They answered. ²⁰ David stood up from the ground and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothing. Then he went to the house of the LORD and worshiped, and he went to his own house. He asked, so they served him food, and he ate.

³ When all the Israelites saw the fire come down and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they knelt down with their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loyal love is everlasting.

³ When I heard this I tore my garment and my robe, and I pulled the hair out from my head and beard, and I sat appalled.

³⁹ Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”

⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,

¹⁹ By the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread, until your return to the ground. For from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

² But Jacob was angry with Rachel, and said, Am I in the place of God, who has kept your body from having fruit?

⁵ So now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves that you sold me here, for God sent me as deliverance before you.

⁷ The lord makes poor, and he enriches; he humbles, and elevates.

¹⁸ And Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seems to him good.

¹² It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction and return good to me for his cursing today."

¹⁵ The king would not listen to the people because the turn of events was from the LORD, to fulfill his prediction that the LORD spoke through Nebat's son Ahijah the Shilonite.

¹⁹ Hezekiah said to Isaiah: "The word of the LORD that you spoke is good. He added: "Is it not good that there is peace and security as long as I live?"

¹ I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.

⁹ I remain silent; I do not open my mouth, for you are the one who acted

¹⁷ For he shall take nothing when he dies; neither shall his glory descend with him.

³⁸ But you have rejected and spurned. You have been angry with your anointed. ³⁹ You have renounced the covenant of your servant. You have defiled his crown in the dust. ⁴⁰ You have broken through all his walls; you have laid his fortresses in ruin. ⁴¹ All who pass by the way rob him. He has become a reproach to his neighbors. ⁴² You have exalted the right hand of his foes; You have made all his enemies rejoice. ⁴³ Yes, you turn back the edge of his sword, and haven’t supported him in battle. ⁴⁴ You put an end to his splendor and hurled his throne to the ground. ⁴⁵ You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah ⁴⁶ How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? Shall your wrath burn like fire? ⁴⁷ Remember how transient is my life, For what futility have You created all the sons of humanity? ⁴⁸ What man can live on and not see death? Can he deliver his life from the power of Sheol? Selah ⁴⁹ Where is your gracious love of old, Lord, that in your faithfulness you promised to David? ⁵⁰ Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servants, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the mighty peoples, ⁵¹ With which your enemies have mocked, LORD, with which they have mocked the footsteps of your anointed one. ⁵² Blessed be the LORD forever. Amen and Amen.

¹⁵ As he came forth from his mother's womb, naked shall he go again as he came, and shall take nothing for his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.

¹⁹ Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to accept his lot, and to rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God.

⁷ and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

¹⁵ Therefore in the east give glory to the LORD. Exalt the name of the LORD the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea.

²⁴ Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to robbers? Did not the LORD, against whom we have sinned? For they would not walk in His ways, nor did they obey His Law.

⁷ I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

³⁸ Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that disaster and good will come?

⁶ "Will the trumpet be blown in a city and the people not be afraid? Will disaster happen to a city and the LORD not cause it?

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?'

²⁸ They carried out what Your hand and purpose had decided beforehand would happen.

²⁰ always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

⁷ For we bring nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

¹⁷ Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.

¹⁰ Therefore listen to me, O man of heart; far be it from God to commit iniquity; and from the Almighty, to do wrong.

¹⁸ Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art worthless? and to princes, Ye are wicked? ¹⁹ who does not respect the persons of rulers, nor regards the rich more than the poor. For they all are the work of his hands.

⁴ Behold, I am slight; how can I reply to You? I place my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ I spoke once, but I cannot answer twice. I will proceed no further." ⁶ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, ⁷ "Now brace yourself like a man. I will question you, and you will answer me. ⁸ "Would you undo my justice? Would you condemn me so that you can be righteous?

²⁰ But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?”

⁴ Allow perseverance to finish its work, so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

¹² Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.

⁷ so that your tested faith, much more precious than gold that perishes though tested by fire, may be found to your praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed,
