Job Cross References - VIN

1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil. 2 He had seven sons and three daughters. 3 He owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, one thousand head of cattle, and five hundred donkeys. He also had a large number of servants. In fact he was the greatest (richest) of all the Orientals in the East! 4 And his sons used to go and hold a feast in the house of each one upon his day; and they would send and invite their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. 5 When their time of feasting had concluded, Job would rise early in the morning to send for them and consecrate them to God. He would offer a burnt offering for each one, because Job thought, "Perhaps my children sinned by cursing God in their hearts." Job did this time and again. 6 Now on the day when God's sons came to present themselves before the LORD, Satan also came among them. 7 So the LORD said to Satan, "From where have you come?" Then Satan answered the LORD and said, "From roaming on the earth and from walking about in it." 8 The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil." 9 And Satan answering, said: Doth Job fear God in vain? 10 Have you not put a fence around him and his household and around all that belongs to him on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock has increased in the land. 11 However, stretch out your hand and strike everything he owns, and he will curse you to your face." 12 The LORD said to Satan, "Look, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself do not put forth your hand." So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD. 13 And a day came when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house. 14 a messenger approached Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the female donkeys were grazing nearby 15 And the Sabeans rushed in, and took all away, and slew the servants with the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell thee. 16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 17 While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you." 18 While he was still speaking, there also came another and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house. 19 when a strong wind came straight out of the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on the young people, and they died. I alone escaped to tell you!" 20 And Job rose up and tore his robe, and shaved his head. And he fell down on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, Naked I came out of my mother's womb and naked I will return there. the LORD gave and the LORD has taken away, praise the name of the LORD. 22 In all this, Job did not sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing.

When he visits, what will I answer him? 15 Did not he who made me in the womb make him? Did not the same one fashion us in the womb? 16 ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; 17 if I have eaten my morsel alone, and have not shared it with the orphan; 18 for from my youth I reared the orphan like a father, and from my mother's womb I guided the widow. 19 If I have seen any perishing for want of clothing, or any needy without covering; 20 If his heart has not blessed me, and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; 21 If I have raised a hand against the fatherless, because I had around me greater support: 22 Then let my arm fall from my shoulder-blade, and my arm be broken from the bone. 23 For I feared destruction from God, against whose highness I could have no power. 24 "If I've put my confidence in gold, if I've said to gold, 'You're my security,' 25 If I have rejoiced over my great riches, and because my hand had gotten much. 26 if I have seen the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in splendor, 27 and I was secretly enticed, and my hand threw them a kiss, 28 this also would be an iniquity for the judges; for I would have denied the God above. 29 "If I have rejoiced at the ruin of the one who hated me or have exulted when evil overtook him— 30 For I have not given my mouth to sin, by wishing a curse to his soul. 31 If the men of my tent did not say, Who has not had full measure of his meat? 32 the stranger did not sleep in the street, for I opened my doors to the traveler; 33 if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart, 34 Have I feared large crowds? Have my family's contempt ever terrified me so that I remained silent and wouldn't go outside." 35 Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold my mark. Let the Almighty answer me, and my Accuser write an indictment. 36 "Surely I would carry it on my shoulder; I would bind it on me like a crown. 37 "I would give him an account of all my steps. Like a prince I would approach him. 38 If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together; 39 If I have eaten its yield without payment, and caused the death of its owners; 40 let thorns come forth instead of wheat, and weeds instead of barley. Amen and Amen.
