⁸ The statutes of the Lord are right, they rejoice the heart. The commandment of the Lord is clear, it enlighteneth the eyes.

⁵ because Abraham thy father hearkened to my voice and kept my ordinances and my commandments and my rules of rectitude and my rites.

¹⁶ For when a controversy happeneth among them and they come to me, I administer justice to every one, and teach them the statutes of God and his law.

⁵ Behold, I have taught you rules of rectitude, and judgments, as the Lord commanded me; that you may act agreeably thereto, in the land to which you are going, to take possession of it. ⁶ Therefore keep them, and practise them. For this will be your wisdom, and your understanding, in the sight of all the nations. Whoever shall chance to hear all these rules of rectitude, will say, Behold this is a wise and understanding people a great nation.

¹¹ To that place you shall bring all that I this day command you, your whole burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tenths, and the oblations of your hands, and the choice of all your gifts which you may vow to the Lord your God; ¹² and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you, and your sons, and your daughters, and your men servants, and your maid servants, and the Levite who is at your gates, because he hath no portion nor inheritance with you.

¹¹ And thou shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, thy man servant, and thy maid servant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow who is among you, in the place which the Lord thy God shall chuse for his name to be there invoked.

¹⁴ thou shalt rejoice at this thy festival, thou and thy son, and thy daughter, thy man servant, and thy maid servant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who is in thy cities.

¹² So all the people went away to eat and drink, and send portions and make great joy, because they had gained knowledge by the words which were explained to them.

¹³ thou camest down also on mount Sina and didst speak to them from heaven, and give them right judgments and laws of truth and statutes and good commandments.

⁶ The oracles of the Lord are pure oracles; tried silver, clear of dross, seven times purified.

³ Look down, hearken to me, O Lord, my God. Enlighten mine eyes, that I may not sleep unto death;

⁸ to perform, my God, thy will, I was determined, even that law of thine, within my heart.

⁴⁵ that they might keep his rules of rectitude, and that they might diligently seek his law.

¹² Lord, thou art blessed, teach me thy rules of rectitude.

¹⁴ I have been delighted with the way of thy testimonies, as for all manner of riches.

¹⁶ I will meditate on thy judgments and not forget thy words.

²⁴ for thy testimonies are my study, thy statutes, my counsellors.

⁴⁰ Behold I have longed for thy precepts; quicken me by thy saving goodness.

⁵⁴ Thy statutes were the subject of my songs, in the place of my pilgrimage.

⁸⁰ Let my heart be sound in thy statutes, that I may not be shamed.

⁹² Had not thy law been my study, I should have perished in my affliction.

⁹⁸ Thou hast given me a knowledge of thy law above mine enemies; because it is mine forever. ⁹⁹ I had more understanding than all my teachers: because thy testimonies are my study. ¹⁰⁰ I understood more than elders: because I diligently sought thy commandments.

¹⁰⁵ NUN. Thy law is a lamp to my feet; and a light to my paths.

¹²¹ AIN. I have done what is right and just; deliver me not up to mine oppressors.

¹²⁸ For this cause I directed my course to all thy commandments: I hated every evil way.

¹³⁰ The manifestation of thy words will enlighten, and make the simple wise.

¹⁴³ When affliction and distress found me, thy commandments were my study;

¹⁷¹ Let my lips solemnly utter a hymn; when thou hast taught me thy statutes.

⁶ For the Lord giveth wisdom; and from his presence is knowledge and understanding:

²³ For the command of a law is a lamp and light; and reproof and instruction is the way of life,

⁵ Since all the words of God are tried, and he is a shield to them who revere him;

⁵ For it will meet them who practise righteousness, and they will remember their ways. Behold thou wast angry when we sinned; because of this we wandered

¹⁶ Bring them to an end. But let Thy word be to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart. Because I am called by Thy name, O Lord Almighty;

²⁷ And I will put my spirit in you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and to keep my judgments and practise them.

¹⁷ Behold thou art called a Jew, and thou restest on the law and gloriest in God, ¹⁸ and knowest his will, and triest things which differ, being instructed out of the law, ¹⁹ and hast a confidence that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light to them who are in darkness, ²⁰ an instructor of the ignorant, a teacher of babes, having the form of the knowledge and of the truth in the law.

²⁰ Because no flesh can be justified before him by works of law; for by law there is a knowledge of sin,

⁷ What shall we say then? Is the law sin? No, by no means. Indeed I should not have known sin, had it not been for the law. For I should not have known covetousness, had not the law said, "Thou shall not covet"

¹² So that the law is indeed holy, and the commandment is holy, just and good. ¹³ Hath that then which is good been death to me? No, by no means. But sin, so that it appeared to be sin, continued working death for me by that which is good, so that sin appeared to be sin in the highest degree by the commandment. ¹⁴ For we know that the law is spiritual, but as for me, I being carnal, am sold to sin.

²² For in the inner man I am delighted with the law of God;

¹⁹ As for me, I by law died to law, that I may live to God.

¹⁰ For as many as are of works of law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed is every one who will not persevere in all that. are written in the book of the law to do them." ¹¹ And that none is justified by law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live because of faith." ¹² Now the law is not because of belief, but, "The man who doth these things shall live by them." ¹³ From this curse of the law Christ hath redeemed us, being made a curse for us; [for it is written, "Cursed, is every one who is suspended on a cross,"]

²¹ is then the law against the promises of God? [b] No by no means; for if a law had been given which could have put into a state of life, righteousness would assuredly have been by law.
