² By no means. How shall we, who are dead to sin, live in it any longer?

¹ Then what advantage has the Jew? or what profit is there in circumcision? ² Much in every way: First, because the oracles of God were entrusted to them. ³ What if some did not believe? shall their unbelief nullify the faithfulness of God? ⁴ God forbid: let God be true, even if every man is a liar; as it is written, That you might be justified in your words, and might overcome when you are judged.

¹¹ And not only this, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received reconciliation.

⁵ For if we have been united with him by sharing a death like his, so shall we also share a resurrection like his: ⁶ Knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should no longer be enslaved by sin. ⁷ For he who has died is freed from sin. ⁸ Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: ⁹ Knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, will never die again: death no longer has power over him. ¹⁰ For in his death, he died to sin once for all: but in his life, he lives to God. ¹¹ In the same way, consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

⁴ Likewise, my brethren, you have died to the law through the body of Christ; so that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead that we might bring forth fruit for God.

⁶ But now we have been released from the law, dead to that which held us bound; so that we serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ controls us; because we are convinced that one died for all, therefore all died: ¹⁵ And he died for all, that those who live should not henceforth live for themselves, but for him who died for them, and rose again. ¹⁶ Therefore, we no longer regard man according to the flesh: though once we regarded Christ according to the flesh, yet now we regard him thus no longer. ¹⁷ Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.

¹⁹ For through the law I am dead to the law, that I might live to God.

¹⁴ But God forbid that I should glory, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.

²⁰ Therefore, if you are dead with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as though still living in the world, do you submit to such ordinances as,

³ For you are dead, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

¹⁴ Live as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the lusts of your former ignorance:

²⁴ He himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we might die to sins and live to righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

¹ Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same mind: for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; ² That he may live the rest of his time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. ³ For the time past was sufficient for doing the things the Gentiles desire to do: living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, revelling, carousing, and abominable idolatries.

⁹ No one who is born of God practices sin; for his seed remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
