¹⁸ Whiche Abraham contrary to hope, beleued in hope that he shoulde be the father of manye nacyons, accordynge to that whiche was spoken.

⁵ And he brought him out of the dores, & sayd: loke vp vnto heauen, & tel the stars, if thou be able to numbre them. And said vnto hym: Euen so shal thy sede be. ⁶ And Abram beleued the Lord, & it was counted to him for ryghtuousnes.

¹¹ But Noemi said, turne again my doughters: for what cause would you go with me? thinke you that there be any more children in my bowelles, to be youre husbandes? ¹² Turne again my doughters & go: for I am to olde to haue an husband. Yf I sayde I haue hope, also yf I toke a man this night, ye and though I had alreadye borne sonnes? ¹³ would ye tary after them, tyl they were of age? or would ye for them so long refrayne from takynge of husbandes? Not so my doughters: for it greueth me much for youre sakes, that the hande of the Lord is gone out against me.

¹² Longe taryenge for a thing that is differed, greueth the hert: but when the desyre commeth, it is a tre of lyfe.

¹¹ Moreouer, he sayde vnto me: Thou sonne of man, these bones are the whole house of Israell. Beholde, they saye: Oure bones are dryed vp, oure hope is gone, we are clene cut of.

³⁵ Whyle he yet spake, there came frome the ruler of the Synagoges house, certayn which sayde: thy doughter is dead: why diseasest thou the maister any further? ³⁶ Assone as Iesus herd that worde spoken, he sayd vnto the ruler of the Synagoge: be not afrayed, onely beleue.

¹⁸ And Zacharias sayde vnto the aungel: wherby shal I knowe this? seyinge that I am olde and my wyfe well stricken in yeares.

²⁵ Wherfore Syrs be of good cheare: for I beleue God, that so it shal be euen as it was tolde me.

¹⁷ As it is written: I haue made the a father to manye nacyons, euen before God whome thou haste beleued, whiche quickeneth the deade, and called those thinges whiche be not, as thoughe they were.

¹⁹ So shall thy seed be. And he fainted not in the fayth, nor yet consydered hys owne bodye which was now dead, euen when he was almost an hondred year olde: neyther yet that Sara was past chylde bearynge.

⁵ And hope maketh not ashamed, for the loue of God is sheed abroade in our hertes by the holye ghost, which he is geuen vnto vs.

²⁴ For we are saued by hope, But hope that is sene is no hope. For howe can a man hope for that which he seyth?
