²³ Nowe yf there be a messenger (one amonge a thousande) sent for to speake vnto man, and to shewe hym the ryght waye:

¹ And the angell of the Lorde came vp from Galgall to Bocim, and sayde, I broughte you oute of Egypt and haue brought you vnto the lande whiche I sware vnto your fathers. And I sayde that I wolde neuer breake myne appoyntment wyth you,

¹⁵ And the Lord God of theyr fathers sent to them by his messengers, sendynge them be tymes: for he had compassyon on hys people & on his dwellynge place. ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God & despised theyr wordes & mysse vsed his prophetes, vntyll the wrath of the Lord so arose agaynst hys people that it was past remeadie.

³³ Thou arte ryghteous in all that thou haste broughte vpon vs, for thou haste done ryghte.

³ If he wyll argue with him, he shall not be able to auswere hym vnto one among a thousande.

⁶ that he myght shewe the (out of his secrete wysdome) howe manyfolde his Lawe is: then shuldest thou knowe, that God had forgotten the, because of thy synnes.

¹⁰ Therfore herken vnto me, ye that haue vnderstandynge. Farre be it from God, that he shulde medle with wyckednesse: and farre be it from the almyghtye, that he shuld medle wyth vnryghtuous dealynge:

¹² For sure it is, that God condemneth no man wrongouslye, and the iudgemente of the Almyghtye is not vnrightuous.

³² If I haue gone a mysse, enfourme me: yf I haue done wronge, I wyl leaue of.

¹⁴ Whan thou speakest then, shulde not he pardon the, yf thou open thy selfe before hym, and put thy trust in hym?

³ I wil open vnto the yet more of myne vnderstandynge, and proue my maker righteous.

⁸ But yf they be layed in preson & cheynes, or bounde with the bondes of pouertye: ⁹ then sheweth he them theyr worckes & dedes & the synnes where with they haue vsed cruell vyolence. ¹⁰ He wyth punyshynge and outtryng of them, roundeth them in the eares, warneth them to leaue of from theyr wyckednesse, and to amende. ¹¹ If tney nowe wyll take hede, and be obedyente, they shall were oute theyr dayes in prosperyte, and theyr yeares in pleasure & ioye. ¹² But yf they wyl not obeye, they shal go thorowe the swearde, and perysh or euer they be a warre. ¹³ As for suche as be fayned, dissemblers and ypocrytes, they heape vp wrath for them selues: for they call not vpon him, though they be hys presoners.

²³ It is not we that can fynde oute the almighty for in power, equyte, and righteousnesse, he is hyer than can be expressed.

¹² Blessed is the man, whome thou learnest (O LORDE) and teacheste hym in thy lawe.

⁷⁵ I knowe, O Lorde, that thy iudgmentes are right, and that thou of very faithfulnes hast caused me to be troubled.

²⁸ Amonge a thousande men I haue founde one, but not one woman amonge all.

¹ The spirite of the Lorde God is with me, for the Lorde hath annointed me, & sent me, to preache good tydinges vnto the poore, that I myght binde vp the wounded hertes, that I myght preach delyueraunce to the captyue, and open the preson to them that are bounde: ² that I myght declare the acceptable yeare of the Lorde, and the daye of the vengeaunce of oure God: that I myghte comforte al them that are in heauynesse, ³ that I might geue vnto them that mourne in Sion bewtye in the steade of ashes, ioyful oyntment for syghing, pleasaunt rayment for an heauy mynde: That they might be called excellente in ryghteousnesse, a plantinge of the Lord for hym to reioyce in.

²² Heth. Namely, that the mercyes of the Lord are not cleane gone, and that hys louynge kyndnesse ceasseth not. ²³ His faythfulnes is greate, and renueth it selfe as the mournynge.

³² But though he do cast of, yet accordynge to the multitude of hys mercyes, he receyueth to grace agayne.

³⁹ Wherfore then murmureth the lyuynge man? let hym murmure at hys owne synne. ⁴⁰ Nun. Let vs loke well vpon oure owne wayes, and remembre oure selues, and turne agayne to the Lorde. ⁴¹ Let vs lyft vp oure hertes with oure handes vnto the Lorde that is in heauen.

²⁵ And yet ye say: Tush, the waye of the lord is not indifferent. Heare therfore the house of Israel: Is not my way ryght? Or, are not youre wayes rather wicked? ²⁶ When a ryghteous man turneth away from his ryghteousnesse, and medleth with vngodlynes: he must dye therin: yea for the vnryghteousnes that he hath done, must he dye. ²⁷ Agayne, when the wycked man turneth awaye from his wickednesse, that he hath done, & doth the thinge whiche is equall and ryght, he shall saue hys soule alyue. ²⁸ For in so muche as he remembreth hym selfe, & turneth him from all the vngodlynes, that he had vsed, he shall lyue, and not dye.

¹⁴ Therefore hathe the Lorde made haste, to brynge this plage vpon vs, for the Lorde our God is ryghteous, in all his worckes which he doeth: for why, we woulde not herken vnto his voyce.

¹³ Then Aggeus the Lordes angell sayde in the Lordes message vnto the people: I am wyth you, sayeth the Lorde.

⁷ For the priestes lippes should be sure knowledge, that men may seke the lawe at his mouth: for he is a messaunger of the lorde of hostes.

¹ Beholde, I wil sende my messaunger, which shall prepare the way before me: & the Lord whome, ye woulde haue, shall sone come to hys temple, yea, euen the messenger of the couenaunt, whome ye longe for. Beholde he commeth, sayeth the Lord of hostes

³⁰ And Philippe ranne to him, and hearde hym reade the Prophete Esaias and saied: Vnderstandeste thou what thou readeste?

¹³ I speake to you gentyls, in as much as I am the Apostle of the gentyls: I wil magnify myne offyce,

³⁰ For this cause manye are weake and sycke amonge you, and manye slepe. ³¹ Yf we had truely iudged our selues, we should not haue ben iudged. ³² But when we are iudged of the Lorde, we are chastened, because we shoulde not be dampued wyth the worlde.

²⁰ Nowe then are we messengers in the roume of Christ: euen as thoughe God dyd beseche you thorowe vs: So praye we you in Christes stede, that ye be atone with God,

⁵ And ye haue forgotten consolacyon, which speaketh vnto you as vnto chyldren: my sonne despyse not the chastenynge of the Lorde, neyther faynte when thou arte rebuked of hym: ⁶ For whom the Lord loueth, hym he chasteneth: yea, and he scourgeth euerye sonne that he receyueth. ⁷ Yf ye endure chastenynge, God offereth hym selfe vnto you as vnto sonnes. What sonne is that whom the father chasteneth not? ⁸ Yf ye be not vnder correccyon (whereof all are partakers) then are ye bastardes and not sonnes. ⁹ Moreouer seynge we had fathers of oure fleshe whiche corrected vs, and we gaue them reuerence: shoulde we not muche rather be in subieccyon vnto the father of spyrytuall gyftes, that we myght lyue? ¹⁰ And they verely for a few dayes, nurtered vs after their owne pleasure, but he learneth vs vnto that whiche is profytable that we myght receyue of hys holynes. ¹¹ No maner chastisynge for the presente tyme semeth to be ioyeous, but greuous: neuerthelesse afterwarde, it bryngeth the quyet frute of ryghtuousnes vnto them whiche are therein exercysed. ¹² Stretche forth therfore agayne the handes whiche were let doune and the weake lines
