¹ And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, Gird up your loins and take this vial of oil in your hand and go to Ramoth-gilead. ² And when you come there, look out there for Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi and go in and make him arise up from among his brothers and carry him to an inner chamber. ³ Then take the vial of oil and pour it on his head and say, Jehovah says thus, I have anointed you king over Israel. Then open the door and flee and do not delay.
⁴ So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead. ⁵ And when he came, behold, the captains of the army were sitting. And he said, I have an errand to you, O captain. And Jehu said, To which of us all? And he said, To you, O captain.
⁶ And he arose and went into the house. And he poured the oil on his head and said to him, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, I have anointed you king over the people of Jehovah, even over Israel.
⁷ And you will kill* the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets and the blood of all the servants of Jehovah, at the hand of Jezebel. ⁸ For the whole house of Ahab will perish. And I will cut off from Ahab every one who urinates on the wall and he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel. ⁹ And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah. ¹⁰ And the dogs will eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel and there will be none to bury her. And he opened the door and fled.
¹¹ Then Jehu came out to the servants of his lord and one said to him, Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you? And he said to them, You* know the man and what his talk was. ¹² And they said, It is not true; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus he spoke to me, saying, Jehovah says thus, I have anointed you king over Israel. ¹³ Then they hastened and every man took his garment and put it under him on the top of the stairs and blew the trumpet, saying, Jehu is king.
¹⁴ So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram was keeping Ramoth-gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria. ¹⁵ But king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If this be your* mind, then let none escape and go forth out of the city to go to tell it in Jezreel. ¹⁶ So Jehu rode in a chariot and went to Jezreel, for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah came down to see Joram.
¹⁷ Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel and he spied the company of Jehu as he came and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take a horseman and send to meet them and let him say, Is it peace? ¹⁸ So one went on horseback to meet him and said, Thus says the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What have you to do with peace? Turn behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he does not come back.
¹⁹ Then he sent out a second on horseback who came to them and said, Thus says the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What have you to do with peace? Turn behind me. ²⁰ And the watchman told, saying, He came to them and does not come back. And the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously.
²¹ And Joram said, Make ready. And they made his chariot ready. And Joram King of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot and they went out to meet Jehu and found him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite. ²² And it happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the prostitutions of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?
²³ And Joram turned his hands and fled and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah. ²⁴ And Jehu drew his bow with his full strength and killed* Joram between his arms. And the arrow went out at his heart and he sank down in his chariot.
²⁵ Then Jehu said to Bidkar his captain, Take up and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite. For remember how that, when I and you rode together after Ahab his father, Jehovah laid this burden upon him: ²⁶ Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, says Jehovah and I will requite you in this plot, says Jehovah. Now therefore take and cast him into the plot of ground, according to the word of Jehovah.
²⁷ But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden-house. And Jehu followed after him and said, Strike him also in the chariot. And they killed * him at the ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo and died there. ²⁸ And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem and buried him in his sepulcher with his fathers in the city of David. ²⁹ (And it was in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab Ahaziah began to reign over Judah.)
³⁰ And when Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it. And she painted her eyes and attired her head and looked out at the window. ³¹ And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Is it peace, you Zimri, your master's murderer? ³² And he lifted up his face to the window and said, Who is on my side? Who? And two or three eunuchs looked out to him. ³³ And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down. And some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall and on the horses. And he trampled her under foot.
³⁴ And when he came in, he ate and drank and he said, Now see to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king's daughter. ³⁵ And they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands. ³⁶ Therefore they came back and told him. And he said, This is the word of Jehovah, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel will the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel, ³⁷ and the body of Jezebel will be as manure upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they will not say, This is Jezebel.

¹ And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you*, to do them, that you* may live and go in and possess the land which Jehovah, the God of your* fathers, gives you*.

³ Your* eyes have seen what Jehovah did because of Baal-peor. For all the men who followed Baal-peor, Jehovah your God has destroyed them from the midst of you.

¹ Then Samuel took the vial of oil and poured it upon his head and kissed him and said, Is it not that Jehovah has anointed you to be prince over his inheritance?

¹ And Jehovah said to Samuel, How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for me a king among his sons.

³⁹ And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the tent and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet and all the people said, Live, king Solomon.

⁴⁶ And the hand of Jehovah was on Elijah and he girded up his loins and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

³⁵ And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said by the word of Jehovah to his fellow, Strike me, I beseech you. And the man refused to kill* him.

⁴ And he said to Jehoshaphat, Will you go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the King of Israel, I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.

²⁰ And Jehovah said, Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner and another said on that manner.

³ And the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, Do you know that Jehovah will take away your master from your head today? And he said, Yes, I know it; hold your* peace.

¹ Now a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, Your servant my husband is dead and you know that your servant feared Jehovah and the creditor has come to take my two children to him to be bondmen.

²⁹ Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up your loins and take my staff in your hand and go your way. If you meet any man, do not salute him and if any salute you, do not answer him again. And lay my staff upon the face of the child.

¹ And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell before you is too confined for us. ² Please let us go to the Jordan and every man take a beam from there and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go. ³ And one said, I beseech you, be pleased to go with your servants. And he answered, I will go.

²⁸ And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead and the Syrians wounded Joram. ²⁹ And king Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

¹⁷ You therefore gird up your loins and arise and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them.

³⁵ Let your loins be girded, and your lamps burning; ³⁶ and you yourselves are similar to men waiting for their lord, as to whenever he vacates from the marriage-feast; in order that, when he has come and knocks, they may immediately open to him. ³⁷ The fortunate bondservants, whom the lord, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly I am saying to you, that he will gird himself, and will have them recline at the meal, and having passed by them, he will be serving them.

¹³ Hence when you have girded up the loins of your mind, while being sober, hope completely upon the grace being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

¹⁶ And you will anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi to be king over Israel. And you will anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah to be prophet in your place. ¹⁷ And it will happen, that he who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill. And he who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill.

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city and the wall fell upon twenty-seven thousand men who were left. And Ben-hadad fled and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

²⁵ And Micaiah said, Behold, you will see on that day when you will go into an inner chamber to hide yourself.

⁵ And when he came, behold, the captains of the army were sitting. And he said, I have an errand to you, O captain. And Jehu said, To which of us all? And he said, To you, O captain.

¹² And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron's head and anointed him, to sanctify him.

¹⁶ Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin and you will anoint him to be prince over my people Israel. And he will save my people out of the hand of the Philistines, for I have looked upon my people, because their cry has come to me.

¹ And Samuel said to Saul, Jehovah sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen you to the voice of the words of Jehovah.

¹⁷ And Samuel said, Though you were little in your own sight, were you not made the head of the tribes of Israel? And Jehovah anointed you king over Israel.

² And Samuel said, How do I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me. And Jehovah said, Take a heifer with you and say, I have come to sacrifice to Jehovah.

¹² And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and of a beautiful countenance and fine to look upon. And Jehovah said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he. ¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

¹⁶ And you will anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi to be king over Israel. And you will anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah to be prophet in your place.

¹³ And Hazael said, But what is your servant, who is but a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, Jehovah has shown me that you will be king over Syria.

⁷ Now the destruction of Ahaziah was of God, in that he went to Joram, for when he came he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom Jehovah had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

⁶ Because neither from the east, nor from the west, nor yet from the south, comes lifting up.
⁷ Because God is the judge. He put one down and lifts another up.

¹⁵ Kings reign and rulers decree justice by me. ¹⁶ Rulers rule by me and ranking men, even all the judges of the earth.

⁵ I have made the earth, the men and the beasts that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm and I give it to whom it seems right to me.
⁶ And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant. And the beasts of the field I have also given him to serve him. ⁷ And all the nations will serve him and his son and his son's son, until the time of his own land comes. And then many nations and great kings will make him their bondman.

¹ And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams. And his spirit was troubled and his sleep went from him.

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing and he does according to his will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. And none can stay his hand, or say to him, What are you doing?

¹⁸ O you king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father the kingdom and greatness and glory and majesty.

¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, a messenger of the Lord appears to Joseph in a dream, saying, When you arise, take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there until I should speak to you again, because Herod is about to seek the young child to destroy him.

¹⁶ Behold, I am sending you forth like sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore, become prudent like serpents and harmless like doves.

¹⁰ Therefore Pilate says to him, Why do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and have authority to crucify you?
¹¹ Jesus answered, You have no authority against me, except what was given to you from above. He who gave me to you has the greater sin because of this.

¹⁹ But he himself turned back from the quarries that were by Gilgal and said, I have a secret errand to you, O king. And he said, Keep silence. And all who stood by him went out from him.

³⁴ And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel. And blow you* the trumpet and say, Live, king Solomon.

⁸ And your servant is in the midst of your people which you have chosen, a great people that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

⁹ Praise Jehovah your God, who delighted in you to set you on the throne of Israel. Because Jehovah loved Israel everlasting, therefore he made you king, to do justice and righteousness.

⁷ Go, tell Jeroboam, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Forasmuch as I exalted you from among the people and made you prince over my people Israel,

² Forasmuch as I exalted you out of the dust and made you prince over my people Israel and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins,

³ Then take the vial of oil and pour it on his head and say, Jehovah says thus, I have anointed you king over Israel. Then open the door and flee and do not delay.

⁶ Yet I have set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

⁶ Because neither from the east, nor from the west, nor yet from the south, comes lifting up.

¹ Jehovah says thus to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held to subdue nations before him. And I will loose the loins of kings to open the doors before him. And the gates will not be shut.

²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.

¹⁷ The sentence is by the decree of the watchers and the demand by the word of the holy ones, to the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will and sets up over it the lowest of men.

³² And you will be driven from men and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will be made to eat grass as oxen and seven times will pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will.

²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne. And they took his glory from him, ²¹ and he was driven from the sons of men. And his heart was made like the beasts and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed with grass like oxen and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men and that he sets up over it whomever he will.

¹⁸ Therefore indeed, he took him and led him to the commander and says, Paul the prisoner, having called me, asked me to lead this young-man to you, who has something to say to you.
¹⁹ Now the commander grabbed his hand and departed privately, and was inquiring, What is it that you have to report to me?

³⁵ Vengeance is for me and recompense at the time when their foot will slip. For the day of their calamity is at hand and the things that are to come upon them will make haste.

⁴³ Rejoice, O you* Gentiles, with his people. For he will avenge the blood of his servants and will render vengeance to his adversaries and will recompense those who hate him and will make expiation for his land, for his people.

⁴ for it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifties in a cave and fed them with bread and water.)

¹⁵ And it happened, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money, for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

²¹ Behold, I will bring evil upon you and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab every one who urinates on the wall and he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel.

²⁵ (But there was none like Ahab, who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

³² And he lifted up his face to the window and said, Who is on my side? Who? And two or three eunuchs looked out to him. ³³ And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down. And some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall and on the horses. And he trampled her under foot.

¹ O Jehovah, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth. ² Lift up yourself, judge of the earth. Render to the proud a recompense.
³ Jehovah, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph? ⁴ They pour out words, they speak arrogantly. All the workers of wickedness boast of themselves.
⁵ They break in pieces your people, O Jehovah and afflict your heritage. ⁶ They kill the widow and the traveler and murder the fatherless.
⁷ And they say, Jehovah will not see, nor will the God of Jacob consider.

³⁵ so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

⁷ Now, should God not do the avenging of his chosen who are crying to him day and night? Also, should he not have patience upon them?
⁸ I say to you, that he will be doing the avenging on them quickly.
However, when the Son of Man comes, will he then be finding the faith upon the earth?

¹⁹ Beloved, do not be avenging yourselves, but give a chance for the wrath of God; for it has been written, ‘Vengeance is for me. I will be repaying, says the Lord.’

⁴ for he is a servant of God to you for what is the good thing. But if you practice what is the evil thing, be afraid; for he is not wearing the sword vainly; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to the one who is practicing the evil thing.

³⁰ For we know the one who said, ‘Vengeance is for me. I will be repaying says the Lord.’And again, ‘ The Lord will judge his people.’

⁹ And when he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who have been slaughtered because of the word of God and because of the testimony of the lamb which they were holding to. ¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying, Until when, O holy and true Master, do you not judge and avenge our blood from those who dwell upon the earth?

²⁰ Be joyous over her: heaven and the holy-ones and the apostles and the prophets, because God has judged your condemnation from her

² because true and righteous are his judgments, because he has judged the great prostitute, she who was corrupting the earth in her fornication and he has avenged the blood of his bondservants from her hand.

³⁶ For Jehovah will judge his people and regrets for his servants, when he sees that their power has gone and there is none remaining, shut up or left at large.

²² God do so to the enemies of David and more also, if I leave of all that pertains to him by the morning light so much as one who urinates on the wall.

¹⁰ therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam and will cut off from Jeroboam every one who urinates on the wall, he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam as a man sweeps away manure, till it is all gone.
¹¹ He who dies of Jeroboam in the city will the dogs eat and he who dies in the field will the birds of the heavens eat, for Jehovah has spoken it.

²¹ Behold, I will bring evil upon you and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab every one who urinates on the wall and he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel. ²² And I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger and have made Israel to sin.

¹⁷ And when he came to Samaria, he killed* all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spoke to Elijah.

²⁶ For Jehovah saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter, for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Israel.

²⁹ And it happened that, as soon as he was king, he killed* all the house of Jeroboam. He left to Jeroboam not any who breathed, until he had destroyed him according to the saying of Jehovah, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite,

³ behold, I will utterly sweep away Baasha and his house and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. ⁴ He of Baasha who dies in the city will the dogs eat and he of his who dies in the field will the birds of the heavens eat.
⁵ Now the rest of the acts of Baasha and what he did and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

¹¹ And it happened, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he killed* all the house of Baasha. He left him not a single one who urinates on the wall, neither of his kinfolks, nor of his friends. ¹² Thus Zimri destroyed all the house of Baasha according to the word of Jehovah, which he spoke against Baasha by Jehu the prophet,

²² And I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger and have made Israel to sin.

²⁶ And Ehud escaped while they delayed and passed beyond the quarries and escaped to Seirah.

²³ And Jehovah spoke also of Jezebel, saying, The dogs will eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel.

³⁵ And they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands. ³⁶ Therefore they came back and told him. And he said, This is the word of Jehovah, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel will the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel,

¹⁹ He will be buried with the burial of a donkey, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

²⁶ I beseech you, run now to meet her and say to her, Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well.

²¹ So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he alighted from the chariot to meet him and said, Is all well?

¹⁵ Yes, truth is lacking and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.
And Jehovah saw it and it displeased him that there was no justice.

²⁶ Jehovah has made you priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in the house of Jehovah, for every man who is mad and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in the stocks and in shackles.

⁷ The days of visitation have come. The days of recompense have come. Israel will know it. The prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the abundance of your iniquity and because the enmity is great.

²¹ And when those close beside him heard it, they went out to take-hold of him; for they were saying, He is crazy.

²⁰ And many out of them were saying, He has a demon and is insane; why are you listening to him?

¹⁸ Now also some of the Epicureans and Stoic philosophers were encountering him and some were saying, Whatever does this babbler wish to say?
Some said, He seems to be a proclaimer of strange demons, because he is proclaiming the good-news of Jesus and the resurrection.

²⁴ Now he made his defense with these things.
Festus says with a loud voice, Paul, you are insane; your much scholarship is turning you insane.

¹⁰ We are foolish because of Christ, but you are prudent in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are glorious, but we are dishonored.

¹³ For whether we were crazy, it was to God; or whether we are sensible, it is for you.

¹⁰ But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as you* hear the sound of the trumpet, then you* will say, Absalom is king in Hebron.

⁹ And his servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him. Now he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was over the household in Tirzah.

¹⁶ And the people who were encamped heard say, Zimri has conspired and has also struck the king. Therefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp.

³ And the King of Israel said to his servants, Know that Ramoth-gilead is ours and we are still and do not take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?

¹² And Hazael said, Why do you weep my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that you will do to the sons of Israel: their strongholds you will set on fire and their young men you will kill with the sword and will dash in pieces their little ones and rip up their women with child.

And Hazael reigned instead of him.

²⁸ And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead and the Syrians wounded Joram.

³¹ And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Is it peace, you Zimri, your master's murderer?

⁹ And it happened in the morning, that he went out and stood and said to all the people, You* are righteous. Behold, I conspired against my master and killed him. But who killed* all these?

¹⁰ His watchmen are blind. They are all without knowledge. They are all mute dogs. They cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.

⁶ I have set watchmen upon your walls, O Jerusalem. They will never keep silent day nor night. You* who are Jehovah's reminders, take no rest,

² Son of man, speak to the sons of your people and say to them, When I bring the sword upon a land and the people of the land take a man from among them and set him for their watchman, ³ if, when he sees the sword come upon the land, he blows the trumpet and warns the people, ⁴ then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and takes no warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be upon his own head.
⁵ He heard the sound of the trumpet and took no warning; his blood will be upon him. But if he had taken warning, he would have delivered his soul.
⁶ But if the watchman sees the sword come and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at the watchman's hand.
⁷ So you, son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me. ⁸ When I say to the wicked man, O wicked man, you will surely die and you do not speak to warn the wicked man from his way, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at your hand.
⁹ Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked man of his way to turn from it and he does not turn from his way, he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your soul.

⁵ Now into whatever house you enter, say first, Peace is to this house. ⁶ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon it, otherwise it will revisit you.

²² There is no peace, says Jehovah, to the wicked.

⁸ They do not know the way of peace and there is no justice in their goings. They have made them crooked paths. Whoever goes in it does not know peace.

⁵ For Jehovah says thus, Do not enter into the house of banqueting for the dead, nor go to lament, nor sympathize with them, for I have taken away my peace from this people, says Jehovah, even loving kindness and tender mercies.

¹⁷ and they did not know the way of peace.’

And I will give you for it a better vineyard than it, or, if it seem good to you, I will give you the worth of it in money. ³ And Naboth said to Ahab, Jehovah forbid it of me that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you.
⁴ And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him, for he had said, I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid himself down upon his bed and turned away his face and would eat no bread.
⁵ But Jezebel his wife came to him and said to him, Why is your spirit so sad that you eat no bread? ⁶ And he said to her, Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite and said to him, Give me your vineyard for money, or else, if it please you, I will give you another vineyard for it. And he answered, I will not give you my vineyard.
⁷ And Jezebel his wife said to him, Do you now govern the kingdom of Israel? Arise and eat bread and let your heart be merry. I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

¹⁵ And it happened, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money, for Naboth is not alive, but dead. ¹⁶ And it happened, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite to take possession of it. ¹⁷ And the word of Jehovah came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ¹⁸ Arise, go down to meet Ahab King of Israel, who dwells in Samaria. For remember how that, when I and you rode together after Ahab his father, Jehovah laid this burden upon him: ²⁶ Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, says Jehovah and I will requite you in this plot, says Jehovah. Now therefore take and cast him into the plot of ground, according to the word of Jehovah.

Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days, but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.

⁹ And he sought Ahaziah and they caught him (now he was hiding in Samaria). And they brought him to Jehu and killed him. And they buried him, for they said, He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought Jehovah with all his heart. And the house of Ahaziah had no power to hold the kingdom.

¹⁶ And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab King of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.

²⁴ And Joram slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David and Ahaziah his son reigned instead of him.
²⁵ In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab King of Israel, Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign.

¹⁸ And after all this Jehovah killed* him in his guts with an incurable disease. ¹⁹ And it happened, in process of time, at the end of two years, that his guts fell out because of his sickness and he died of severe diseases. And his people made no burning for him like the burning of his fathers.

¹ And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king instead of him, for the band of men who came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned. ² Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he began to reign and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.

¹⁸ In that day, the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets and the hair nets and the crescents, ¹⁹ the pendants and the bracelets and the mufflers, ²⁰ the bonnets and the ankle chains and the sashes and the perfume-boxes and the amulets, ²¹ the rings and the nose-jewels, ²² the festival robes and the cloaks and the shawls and the satchels, ²³ the hand-mirrors and the fine linen and the turbans and the veils.
²⁴ And it will happen, that instead of sweet spices there will be rottenness and instead of a belt, a rope and instead of well set hair, baldness and instead of a robe, a girding of sackcloth, branding instead of beauty.

³⁰ And you, when you are made desolate, what will you do? Though you clothe yourself with scarlet, though you deck you with ornaments of gold, though you enlarge your eyes with paint, in vain you make yourself fair. Your lovers despise you, they seek your life.

⁴⁰ And furthermore you* have sent for men who come from far, to whom a messenger was sent. And behold, they came, for whom you washed yourself, painted your eyes and decked yourself with ornaments,

¹⁷ Sigh, but not aloud. Make no mourning for the dead. Bind your headdress upon you and put your shoes upon your feet. And do not cover your lips and do not eat the bread of men.

⁹ Likewise also, the women to adorn themselves in a respectable array, with modesty and self-discipline; not in hair braids or gold or pearls or costly garments; ¹⁰ but with what is suitable to women professing godliness through good works.

³ whose adornment, do not let it be the outward adornment of braiding the hair, and of placing on of gold things or of clothing of expensive garments;

¹⁵ In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah Zimri reigned seven days in Tirzah. Now the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines. ¹⁶ And the people who were encamped heard say, Zimri has conspired and has also struck the king. Therefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp. ¹⁷ And Omri went up from Gibbethon and all Israel with him and they besieged Tirzah.
¹⁸ And it happened, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the castle of the king's house and burnt the king's house over him with fire, ¹⁹ and died for his sins which he sinned in doing what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, in walking in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin which he did to make Israel to sin.

²⁶ then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, Whoever is on Jehovah's side, come to me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.

⁶ Jehovah is on my side, I will not fear. What can man do to me?

¹ If it had not been Jehovah who was on our side, let Israel now say, ² if it had not been Jehovah who was on our side when men rose up against us,

²⁰ Now Herod was quarreling furiously with those from Tyre and Sidon. But they were united here with him, and having persuaded Blastus, the one over the king’s bedroom, they were asking for peace, because their region is nourished from the king’s region.

³ And you* will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your* feet in the day that I make, says Jehovah of hosts.

¹³ You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt is flavorless, then with what shall it be salted? It is still not strong-enough to be used for anything, except to be cast outside and trampled by men.

²⁹ How much worse punishment, do you think he will be deemed worthy of, after having trampled under foot the Son of God, and having deemed the blood of the covenant in which he was made holy as common, and having insulted the Spirit of the grace?

³¹ And it happened, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took a wife, Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians and went and served Baal and worshiped him.

³⁰ Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He will have none to sit upon the throne of David. And his dead body will be cast out in the day to the heat and in the night to the frost.

²³ But instantly a messenger of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory and he expired, having become maggot-eaten.

⁴ They will die grievous deaths. They will not be lamented, nor will they be buried; they will be as manure upon the face of the ground. And they will be consumed by the sword and by famine. And their dead bodies will be food for the birds of the heavens and for the beasts of the earth.

³³ And the slain of Jehovah will be at that day from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. They will not be lamented, nor gathered, nor buried; they will be manure upon the face of the ground.

²⁰ And they went in to the king into the court, but they had laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe and they told all the words in the ears of the king.

²³ whose graves are set in the outermost parts of the pit. And her company is all around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who caused terror in the land of the living.
²⁴ There is Elam and all her multitude all around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who have gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the earth, who caused their terror in the land of the living and have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit.

²⁸ But you will be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised and will lie with those who are slain by the sword.
²⁹ There is Edom, its kings and all its rulers, who in their might are laid with those who are slain by the sword. They will lie with the uncircumcised and with those who go down to the pit.
³⁰ There are the rulers of the north, all of them and all the Sidonians, who have gone down with the slain. In the terror which they caused by their might they are put to shame. And they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword and bear their shame with those who go down to the pit.
