¹⁵ And it shall be, if you will not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God, to observe and to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, all these curses shall come on you and overtake you. ¹⁶ You shall be cursed in the city, and cursed in the field. ¹⁷ Your basket and your store shall be cursed. ¹⁸ The fruit of your body shall be cursed, and the fruit of your land, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep.

³⁰ You shall become engaged to a wife, and another man shall lie with her. You shall build a house, and you shall not live in it. You shall plant a vineyard, and you shall not gather the grapes of it. ³¹ Your ox shall be slain before your eyes, and you shall not eat of it. Your ass shall be violently taken away from before your face, and shall not be restored to you, your sheep given to your enemies, and you shall have none to rescue them. ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall look and fail for them all the day long. And there shall be no power in your hand. ³³ The fruit of your land, and all your labors, shall be eaten up by a nation which you do not know. And you shall always be oppressed and crushed, ³⁴ and you shall be mad because of that which you shall see with the sight of your eyes. ³⁵ Jehovah shall strike you in the knees and in the legs with an evil ulcer that cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the top of your head. ³⁶ Jehovah shall bring you, and your king which you shall set over you, to a nation which neither you nor your fathers have known. And there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone. ³⁷ And you shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a by-word among all nations where Jehovah shall lead you. ³⁸ You shall carry much seed out into the field, and shall gather little in, for the locust shall eat it. ³⁹ You shall plant vineyards and dress them, but shall neither drink the wine nor gather, for the worm shall eat them. ⁴⁰ You shall have olive trees throughout all your coasts, but you shall not anoint with the oil, for your olive shall drop off its fruit. ⁴¹ You shall father sons and daughters, but you shall not enjoy them, for they shall go into captivity.

¹⁷ And they shall eat up your harvest and your bread. They will devour your sons and your daughters. They shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig-trees. One shall beat down your fortified cities with the sword, those in which you trust.

² Judah mourns, and its gates droop. They are black to the ground, and the cry of Jerusalem has gone up. ³ And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters; they came to the cisterns, and found no water. They returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads. ⁴ Because the ground was cracked, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed; they covered their heads. ⁵ Yea, the doe also calved in the field and forsook it, because there was no grass. ⁶ And the wild asses stood in the high places; they snuffed up the wind like jackals; their eyes failed because there was no grass. ⁷ O Jehovah, though our iniquities testify against us, act for Your name's sake; for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against You. ⁸ O the Hope of Israel, its Savior in time of trouble, why should You be as a stranger in the land, and as a traveler turning in to lodge?

¹⁰ The field is wasted; the land mourns, for the grain is wasted. The new wine is dried up; the oil tree droops. ¹¹ Be ashamed, husbandmen; howl, vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field has perished. ¹² The vine is dried up, and the fig tree droops, the pomegranate and the palm tree, and the apple tree; all the trees of the field are dried up, because joy has dried up from the sons of men. ¹³ Gird up and lament, priests; howl, ministers of the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, ministers of my God. For the food offering and the drink offering are held back from the house of your God.

¹⁶ Is not the food cut off before our eyes, and joy and gladness from the house of our God? ¹⁷ The seed is rotten under their clods; the storage bins are laid waste; the barns are broken down, for the grain has dried up. ¹⁸ How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are troubled because they have no pasture. Yes, the flocks of sheep are destroyed.

⁶ And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places, and you have not returned to Me, says Jehovah. ⁷ And I have also withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest. And I caused rain to fall on one city and caused it not to rain on another city; one piece was rained on, and the piece on which it did not rain dried up. ⁸ So two or three cities wandered to one city to drink water, but they were not satisfied; yet you have not returned to Me, says Jehovah. ⁹ I have stricken you with blasting and mildew. When your gardens and your vineyards, and your fig trees. and your olive trees increased, the creeping locust devoured them; yet you have not returned to Me, says Jehovah. ¹⁰ I have sent the plague among you in the way of Egypt; I have slain your young men with the sword, and have taken away your horses. And I have made the stench of your camps to come up into your nostrils; yet you have not returned to Me, says Jehovah.

¹⁶ from then onward, one came to a heap of twenty measures, and there were but ten; one came to the wine vat to draw off fifty from the winepress, and there were but twenty. ¹⁷ I struck you with blight and with mildew, and with hail, in all the labors of your hands; yet you did not turn to Me, says Jehovah.
