⁹ There is none greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? ¹⁰ And it came to pass, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

³⁹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Since God has showed you all this, there is none so discreet and wise as you are:

¹⁴ You shall not commit adultery.

¹⁸ For her house leads unto death, and her paths unto the dead. ¹⁹ None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins. ²³ He shall die for lack of instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

⁷ And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

²² He goes after her immediately, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; ²³ Till an arrow strikes through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and knows not that it is for his life.

³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

²⁵ I applied my heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness: ²⁶ And I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands are fetters: whosoever pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

⁸ They were as fed horses in the morning: everyone neighed after his neighbor’s wife.

²¹ Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; who have eyes, and see not; who have ears, and hear not:

³¹ Cast away from you all your transgressions, by which you have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die, O house of Israel?

¹¹ Harlotry and wine and new wine take away the heart. ¹² My people ask counsel of their idols of wood, and their staff advises unto them: for the spirit of harlotry has caused them to err, and they have played the harlot against their God.

⁹ O Israel, you have destroyed yourself; but in me is your help.

²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, ²³ And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things. ²⁴ Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves:

⁴ Let marriage be held in honor by all, and the bed undefiled: but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
