²³ Thou that gloriest in the Lawe, through breaking the Lawe, dishonourest thou God?

⁸ Howe doe yee say, Wee are wise, and the Lawe of the Lord is with vs? Loe, certeinly in vaine made hee it, the penne of the scribes is in vaine. ⁹ The wise men are ashamed: they are afraid and taken. loe, they haue reiected the word of the Lord, and what wisdome is in them?

¹⁷ And he said vnto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, eue God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keepe ye commandemets. ¹⁸ He sayd to him, Which? And Iesus sayde, These, Thou shalt not kill: Thou shalt not commit adulterie: Thou shalt not steale: Thou shalt not beare false witnesse. ¹⁹ Honour thy father and mother: and thou shalt loue thy neighbour as thy selfe. ²⁰ The yong man sayd vnto him, I haue obserued all these things from my youth: what lacke I yet?

²⁶ And he saide vnto him, What is written in the Lawe? howe readest thou? ²⁷ And he answered, and saide, Thou shalt loue thy Lord God with all thine heart, and with all thy soule, and with all thy strength, and with all thy thought, and thy neighbour as thy selfe. ²⁸ Then he said vnto him, Thou hast answered right: this doe, and thou shalt liue. ²⁹ But he willing to iustifie himselfe, said vnto Iesus, Who is then my neighbour?

¹¹ The Pharise stoode and prayed thus with himselfe, O God, I thanke thee that I am not as other men, extortioners, vniust, adulterers, or euen as this Publican.

⁴⁵ Doe not thinke that I will accuse you to my Father: there is one that accuseth you, euen Moses, in whom ye trust.

²⁸ Then reuiled they him, and sayd, Be thou his disciple: we be Moses disciples. ²⁹ We know that God spake with Moses: but this man we know not from whence he is.

¹⁷ Beholde, thou art called a Iewe, and restest in the Lawe, and gloriest in God,

² Much euery maner of way: for chiefly, because vnto them were of credite committed the oracles of God.

⁴ Which are the Israelites, to whome perteineth the adoption, and the glory, and the Couenants, and the giuing of the Lawe, and the seruice of God, and the promises.

²² And be ye doers of the word, and not hearers onely, deceiuing your owne selues. ²³ For if any heare the woorde, and doe it not, he is like vnto a man, that beholdeth his naturall face in a glasse. ²⁴ For when he hath considered himselfe, hee goeth his way, and forgetteth immediately what maner of one he was. ²⁵ But who so looketh in the perfect Lawe of libertie, and continueth therein, hee not being a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the woorke, shalbe blessed in his deede. ²⁶ If any man amog you seeme religious, and refraineth not his tongue, but deceiueth his owne heart, this mans religion is vaine. ²⁷ Pure religion and vndefiled before God, euen the Father, is this, to visite the fatherlesse, and widdowes in their aduersitie, and to keepe himselfe vnspotted of the world.

¹⁶ But now ye reioyce in your boastings: all such reioycing is euill. ¹⁷ Therefore, to him that knoweth how to doe well, and doeth it not, to him it is sinne.
