⁹ But in vaine they worship me, teaching for doctrines, mens precepts.

⁷ Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vaine: for the Lord will not hold him guiltles that taketh his Name in vayne.

¹⁶ Then wil I also do this vnto you, I wil appoint ouer you fearefulnes, a consumption, and the burning ague to consume the eyes, and make the heart heauie, and you shall sowe your seede in vaine: for your enemies shall eate it:

²⁰ And your strength shalbe spent in vaine: neither shall your lande giue her increase, neither shall the trees of the land giue their fruite.

³² Therefore whatsoeuer I command you, take heede you doe it: thou shalt put nothing thereto, nor take ought therefrom.

²¹ And Dauid said, In deede I haue kept all in vaine that this fellow had in the wildernesse, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained vnto him: for he hath requited me euill for good.

⁶ Doubtlesse man walketh in a shadowe, and disquieteth himselfe in vaine: he heapeth vp riches, and cannot tell who shall gather them.

¹³ Certainely I haue clensed mine heart in vaine, and washed mine hands in innocencie.

⁵ Euery worde of God is pure: he is a shield to those, that trust in him. ⁶ Put nothing vnto his wordes, least he reproue thee, and thou be found a lyar.

² For as a dreame commeth by the multitude of businesse: so the voyce of a foole is in the multitude of wordes. ³ When thou hast vowed a vowe to God, deferre not to pay it: for he deliteth not in fooles: pay therefore that thou hast vowed. ⁴ It is better that thou shouldest not vowe, then that thou shouldest vow and not pay it. ⁵ Suffer not thy mouth to make thy flesh to sinne: neither say before the Angel, that this is ignorance: wherefore shall God bee angry by thy voyce, and destroy the worke of thine hands? ⁶ For in the multitude of dreames, and vanities are also many wordes: but feare thou God. ⁷ If in a countrey thou seest the oppression of the poore, and the defrauding of iudgement and iustice, be not astonied at the matter: for hee that is higher then the highest, regardeth, and there be higher then they.

¹³ Bring no more oblations, in vaine: incense is an abomination vnto me: I can not suffer your newe moones, nor Sabbaths, nor solemne dayes (it is iniquitie) nor solemne assemblies. ¹⁴ My soule hateth your newe moones and your appointed feastes: they are a burden vnto me: I am weary to beare them. ¹⁵ And when you shall stretch out your hands, I wil hide mine eyes from you: and though ye make many prayers, I wil not heare: for your hands are full of blood.

¹³ Therefore the Lord sayd, Because this people come neere vnto me with their mouth, and honour me with their lips, but haue remooued their heart farre from me, and their feare toward me was taught by the precept of men,

¹ Crye aloude, spare not: lift vp thy voyce like a trumpet, and shewe my people their transgression, and to the house of Iaakob, their sinnes. ² Yet they seeke me dayly, and will knowe my wayes, euen as a nation that did righteously, and had not forsaken the statutes of their God: they aske of me the ordinances of iustice: they wil drawe neere vnto God, saying, ³ Wherefore haue we fasted, and thou seest it not? we haue punished our selues, and thou regardest it not. Beholde, in the day of your fast you will seeke your will, and require all your dettes.

¹⁴ Ye haue saide, It is in vaine to serue God: and what profite is it that we haue kept his commandement, and that we walked humbly before the Lord of hostes?

⁷ But they worship me in vaine, teaching for doctrines the commandements of men.

² And whereby ye are saued, if ye keepe in memorie, after what maner I preached it vnto you, except ye haue beleeued in vaine.

¹⁸ Let no man at his pleasure beare rule ouer you by humblenesse of minde, and worshipping of Angels, aduauncing himselfe in those thinges which hee neuer sawe, rashly puft vp with his fleshly minde, ¹⁹ And holdeth not the head, whereof all the body furnished and knit together by ioyntes and bands, increaseth with the increasing of God. ²⁰ Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the ordinances of the world, why, as though ye liued in ye world, are ye burdened with traditions? ²¹ As, Touch not, Taste not, Handle not. ²² Which al perish with the vsing, and are after the commandements and doctrines of men.

⁴ Neither that they giue heede to fables and genealogies which are endles, which breede questions rather then godly edifying which is by fayth.

¹ Now the Spirit speaketh euidently, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, and shall giue heede vnto spirits of errour, and doctrines of deuils, ² Which speake lies through hypocrisie, and haue their cosciences burned with an hote yron, ³ Forbidding to marrie, and commanding to abstaine from meates which God hath created to be receiued with giuing thankes of them which beleeue and knowe the trueth.

⁶ If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Iesus Christ, which hast bene nourished vp in the wordes of faith, and of good doctrine, which thou hast continually followed. ⁷ But cast away prophane, and olde wiues fables, and exercise thy selfe vnto godlinesse.

¹⁴ And not taking heede to Iewish fables and commandements of men, that turne away from the trueth.

⁹ Be not caried about with diuers and strange doctrines: for it is a good thing that the heart be stablished with grace, and not with meates, which haue not profited them that haue bene occupied therein.

²⁰ But wilt thou vnderstand, O thou vaine man, that the faith which is without workes, is dead?

¹⁸ For I protest vnto euery man that heareth the words of the prophecie of this booke, If any man shall adde vnto these things, God shall adde vnto him the plagues, that are written in this booke:
