²⁹ If also a man or woman hath a sore on the head or in the beard,

³⁸ Then what prayer, and supplication so euer shalbe made of any man or of all thy people Israel, when euery one shall knowe the plague in his owne heart, and stretch foorth his handes in this house,

²⁸ Whereupon the King tooke counsell, and made two calues of golde, and saide vnto them, It is too much for you to goe vp to Ierusalem: beholde, O Israel, thy gods, which brought thee vp out of the lande of Egypt.

⁴ Doe not the workers of iniquitie knowe that they eate vp my people as they eate bread? they call not vpon God.

⁵ Wherefore shoulde ye be smitten any more? for ye fall away more and more: the whole head is sicke, and the whole heart is heauie.

²⁰ Woe vnto them that speake good of euill, and euill of good, which put darkenes for light, and light for darkenes, that put bitter for sweete, and sweete for sowre.

¹⁵ The ancient and the honorable man, he is the head: and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the taile.

¹¹ The heads thereof iudge for rewardes, and the Priestes thereof teache for hyre, and the prophets thereof prophecie for money: yet wil they leane vpon the Lord, and say, Is not the Lord among vs? no euill can come vpon vs.

²³ But if thine eye be wicked, then all thy body shalbe darke. Wherefore if the light that is in thee, be darkenes, howe great is that darkenesse?

¹⁴ So in them is fulfilled the prophecie of Esaias, which prophecie saieth, By hearing, ye shall heare, and shall not vnderstand, and seeing, ye shall see, and shall not perceiue. ¹⁵ For this peoples heart is waxed fat, and their eares are dull of hearing, and with their eyes they haue winked, lest they should see with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and should vnderstand with their hearts, and should returne, that I might heale them.

² They shall excommunicate you: yea, the time shall come, that whosoeuer killeth you, will thinke that he doeth God seruice. ³ And these things will they doe vnto you, because they haue not knowen ye Father, nor me.

³ I am verely a man, which am a Iew, borne in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought vp in this citie at the feete of Gamaliel, and instructed according to the perfect maner of the Lawe of the Fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. ⁴ And I persecuted this way vnto the death, binding and deliuering into prison both men and women.

⁹ I also verely thought in my selfe, that I ought to doe many contrarie things against the Name of Iesus of Nazareth. ¹⁰ Which thing I also did in Hierusalem: for many of the Saints I shut vp in prison, hauing receiued authoritie of the hie Priests, and when they were put to death, I gaue my sentence.

³ If our Gospell bee then hid, it is hid to them that are lost. ⁴ In whom the God of this world hath blinded the mindes, that is, of the infidels, that the light of the glorious Gospell of Christ, which is the image of God, should not shine vnto them.

¹¹ And therefore God shall send them strong delusion, that they should beleeue lies, ¹² That all they might be damned which beleeued not the trueth, but had pleasure in vnrighteousnes.
