⁵ Why was not this oyntment sold for three hundreth pence, and giuen to the poore?

⁸ Notwithstanding lay vpon them the nober of bricke, which they made in time past, diminish nothing thereof: for they be idle, therefore they crie, saying, Let vs go to offer sacrifice vnto our God.

¹⁷ But he said, Ye are to much idle: therfore ye say, Let vs goe to offer sacrifice to the Lord.

⁵ Saying, When will the newe moneth bee gone, that we may sell corne? and the Sabbath, that we may set forth wheate, and make the Ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifie the weights by deceit?

¹⁰ Who is there euen among you, that would shut the doores? and kindle not fire on mine altar in vaine, I haue no pleasure in you, sayeth the Lord of hostes, neither will I accept an offering at your hande. ¹¹ For from the rising of the sunne vnto the going downe of the same, my Name is great among the Gentiles, and in euery place incense shalbe offred vnto my Name, and a pure offering: for my Name is great among the heathen, sayeth the Lord of hostes. ¹² But ye haue polluted it, in that ye say, The table of the Lord is polluted and the fruit thereof, euen his meat is not to be regarded. ¹³ Ye said also, Beholde, it is a wearines, and ye haue snuffed at it, sayth the Lord of hostes, and ye offred that which was torne, and the lame and the sicke: thus yee offred an offring: shoulde I accept this of your hand, sayth the Lord?

² And he agreed with the labourers for a peny a day, and sent them into his vineyard.

⁸ And when his disciples sawe it, they had indignation, saying, What needed this waste? ⁹ For this oyntment might haue bene solde for much, and bene giuen to the poore.

⁴ Therefore some disdained among themselues, and sayde, To what ende is this waste of oyntment? ⁵ For it might haue bene sold for more then three hundreth pence, and bene giuen vnto the poore, and they murmured against her.

⁴¹ And why seest thou a mote in thy brothers eye, and considerest not the beame that is in thine owne eye?

³³ Sell that ye haue, and giue almes: make you bagges, which waxe not old, a treasure that can neuer faile in heauen, where no theefe commeth, neither mothe corrupteth.

²² Nowe when Iesus heard that, he saide vnto him, Yet lackest thou one thing. Sell all that euer thou hast, and distribute vnto the poore, and thou shalt haue treasure in heauen, and come follow mee.

⁷ Philippe answered him, Two hundreth penie worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that euery one of them may take a litle.
