¹⁰ For I had heard the railing of many, and feare on euery side. Declare, said they, and wee wil declare it: all my familiars watched for mine halting, saying, It may be that he is deceiued: so we shall preuaile against him, and we shall execute our vengeance vpon him.

² Then Iezebel sent a messenger vnto Eliiah, saying, The gods doe so to me and more also, if I make not thy life like one of their liues by to morowe this time.

²⁰ And Ahab sayd to Eliiah, Hast thou found mee, O mine enemie? And he answered, I haue found thee: for thou hast solde thy selfe to worke wickednes in the sight of the Lord.

⁸ And the King of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, There is yet one man (Michaiah the sonne of Imlah) by whom we may aske counsel of the Lord, but I hate him: for he doeth not prophecie good vnto me, but euill. And Iehoshaphat sayd, Let not the King say so.

²⁷ And say, Thus saith the King, Put this man in the prison house, and feede him with bread of affliction, and with water of affliction, vntill I returne in peace.

⁶ Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu hath sayd it, that thou and the Iewes thinke to rebel, for the which cause thou buildest the wall and thou wilt bee their King according to these wordes. ⁷ Thou hast also ordeyned the Prophets to preach of thee at Ierusalem, saying, There is a King in Iudah: and nowe according to these wordes it shall come to the Kings eares: come now therefore, and let vs take counsell together. ⁸ Then I sent vnto him, saying, It is not done according to these wordes that thou sayest: for thou feynest them of thine owne heart. ⁹ For all they afrayed vs, saying, Their handes shalbe weakened from the worke, and it shall not be done: nowe therefore incourage thou me. ¹⁰ And I came to the house of Shemaiah the sonne of Delaiah the sonne of Mehetabeel, and he was shut vp, and he said, Let vs come together into the house of God in the middes of the Temple, and shut the doores of the Temple: for they will come to slay thee: yea, in the night will they come to kill thee. ¹¹ Then I said, Should such a man as I, flee? Who is he, being as I am, that would go into the Temple to liue? I will not goe in. ¹² And loe, I perceiued, that God had not sent him, but that he pronounced this prophecie against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. ¹³ Therefore was he hyred, that I might be afrayde, and doe thus, and sinne, and that they might haue an euill report that they might reproche me.

¹⁹ All my secret friends abhorred me, and they whome I loued, are turned against me.

¹³ For I haue heard the rayling of great men: feare was on euery side, while they conspired together against mee, and consulted to take my life.

⁹ Yea, my familiar friend, whom I trusted, which did eate of my bread, hath lifted vp the heele against me.

¹³ But it was thou, O man, euen my companion, my guide and my familiar: ¹⁴ Which delited in consulting together, and went into the House of God as companions.

⁴ My soule is among lions: I lie among the children of men, that are set on fire: whose teeth are speares and arrowes, and their tongue a sharpe sworde.

² Hide me from the conspiracie of the wicked, and from the rage of the workers of iniquitie. ³ Which haue whette their tongue like a sword, and shot for their arrowes bitter wordes. ⁴ To shoote at the vpright in secrete: they shoote at him suddenly, and feare not.

¹⁸ He that dissembleth hatred with lying lips, and he that inuenteth slaunder, is a foole.

²¹ Which made a man to sinne in ye worde, and tooke him in a snare: which reproued them in the gate, and made the iust to fall without cause.

²⁵ Goe not foorth into the fielde, nor walke by the way: for the sword of the enemie and feare is on euery side.

¹⁸ Then sayde they, Come, and let vs imagine some deuice against Ieremiah: for the Lawe shall not perish from the Priest, nor counsell from the wise, nor the worde from the Prophet: come, and let vs smite him with the tongue, and let vs not giue heede to any of his words.

⁹ In thee are men that cary tales to shed blood: in thee are they that eate vpon the mountaines: in ye mids of thee they comit abomination.

⁵⁹ Nowe the chiefe Priestes and the Elders, and all the whole councill sought false witnesse against Iesus, to put him to death. ⁶⁰ But they founde none, and though many false witnesses came, yet founde they none: but at the last came two false witnesses,

¹⁹ Therefore Herodias layd waite against him, and would haue killed him, but she could not: ²⁰ For Herod feared Iohn, knowing that hee was a iust man, and an holy, and reuerenced him, and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. ²¹ But the time being conuenient, when Herod on his birth day made a banket to his princes and captaines, and chiefe estates of Galile: ²² And the daughter of the same Herodias came in, and daunced, and pleased Herod, and them that sate at table together, the King sayd vnto the mayde, Aske of me what thou wilt, and I will giue it thee. ²³ And he sware vnto her, Whatsoeuer thou shalt aske of me, I will giue it thee, euen vnto the halfe of my kingdome. ²⁴ So she went forth, and said to her mother, What shall I aske? And she said, Iohn Baptists head. ²⁵ Then she came in straightway with haste vnto the King, and asked, saying, I would that thou shouldest giue me euen now in a charger the head of Iohn Baptist. ²⁶ Then the King was very sory: yet for his othes sake, and for their sakes which sate at table with him, he would not refuse her. ²⁷ And immediatly the King sent the hangman, and gaue charge that his head shoulde be brought in. So he went and beheaded him in the prison, ²⁸ And brought his head in a charger, and gaue it to the maide, and the maide gaue it to her mother.

⁵³ And as he sayde these things vnto them, the Scribes and Pharises began to vrge him sore, and to prouoke him to speake of many things, ⁵⁴ Laying wait for him, and seeking to catche some thing of his mouth, whereby they might accuse him.

⁵² For from hencefoorth there shall be fiue in one house deuided, three against two, and two against three. ⁵³ The father shalbe deuided against ye sonne, and the sonne against the father: the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother: the mother in lawe against her daughter in lawe, and the daughter in lawe against her mother in lawe.

²⁰ And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should faine themselues iust men, to take him in his talke, and to deliuer him vnto the power and authoritie of the gouernour.

³³ Now when they heard it, they brast for anger, and consulted to slay them.

¹¹ Then they suborned men, which saide, We haue heard him speake blasphemous wordes against Moses, and God. ¹² Thus they mooued the people and the Elders, and the Scribes: and running vpon him, caught him, and brought him to the Councill, ¹³ And set forth false witnesses, which sayd, This man ceasseth not to speake blasphemous wordes against this holy place, and the Law. ¹⁴ For we haue heard him say, that this Iesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the ordinances, which Moses gaue vs. ¹⁵ And as all that sate in the Councill, looked stedfastly on him, they saw his face as it had bene the face of an Angel.

⁵⁴ But when they heard these thinges, their heartes brast for anger, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

¹² And when the day was come, certaine of the Iewes made an assemblie, and bounde themselues with a curse, saying, that they woulde neither eate nor drinke, till they had killed Paul. ¹³ And they were more then fourtie, which had made this conspiracie. ¹⁴ And they came to the chiefe Priestes and Elders, and said, We haue bound our selues with a solemne curse, that wee will eate nothing, vntill we haue slaine Paul. ¹⁵ Nowe therefore, ye and the Council signifie to the chiefe captaine, that hee bring him foorth vnto you to morow: as though you would know some thing more perfectly of him, and we, or euer he come neere, will be readie to kill him.

¹ Now after fiue dayes, Ananias the hie Priest came downe with the Elders, and with Tertullus a certaine oratour, which appeared before the Gouernour against Paul. ² And when he was called foorth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that we haue obtained great quietnesse through thee, and that many worthy things are done vnto this nation through thy prouidence, ³ We acknowledge it wholy, and in all places most noble Felix, with all thankes, ⁴ But that I be not tedious vnto thee, I pray thee, that thou wouldest heare vs of thy courtesie a fewe wordes. ⁵ Certainely we haue found this man a pestilent fellowe, and a moouer of sedition among all the Iewes throughout the world, and a chiefe maintainer of the secte of the Nazarites: ⁶ And hath gone about to pollute the Temple: therefore wee tooke him, and woulde haue iudged him according to our Lawe: ⁷ But the chiefe captaine Lysias came vpon vs, and with great violence tooke him out of our handes, ⁸ Commanding his accusers to come to thee: of whom thou mayest (if thou wilt inquire) know all these things whereof we accuse him. ⁹ And the Iewes likewise affirmed, saying that it was so.

¹³ Neither can they proue the things, whereof they now accuse me.
