⁷ O Lord, thou hast deceiued me, and I am deceiued: thou art stronger then I, and hast preuailed: I am in derision daily: euery one mocketh me.

²⁶ The Lord hath made thee Priest for Iehoiada the Priest, that yee should bee officers in the House of the Lord, for euery man that raueth and maketh himselfe a Prophet, to put him in prison and in the stockes.

⁶ Therefore goe thou, and reade the roule wherein thou hast written at my mouth the words of the Lord in the audience of the people in the Lordes House vpon the fasting day: also thou shalt reade them in the hearing of all Iudah, that come out of their cities.

¹⁵ Wherefore the princes were angry with Ieremiah, and smote him, and layde him in prison in the house of Iehonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison. ¹⁶ When Ieremiah was entred into the dungeon, and into the prisons, and had remained there a long time, ¹⁷ Then Zedekiah the King sent, and tooke him out, and the King asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any worde from the Lord? And Ieremiah sayd, Yea: for, sayd he, thou shalt be deliuered into the hand of the King of Babel. ¹⁸ Moreouer, Ieremiah sayd vnto King Zedekiah, What haue I offended against thee, or against thy seruants, or against this people, that ye haue put me in prison? ¹⁹ Where are nowe your prophets, which prophecied vnto you, saying, The King of Babel shall not come against you, nor against this land? ²⁰ Therefore heare nowe, I pray thee, O my lorde the King: let my prayer be accepted before thee, that thou cause mee not to returne to the house of Iehonathan the scribe, least I die there. ²¹ Then Zedekiah the King commanded, that they should put Ieremiah in the court of the prison, and that they should giue him dayly a piece of bread out of the bakers streete vntill all the bread in the citie were eaten vp. Thus Ieremiah remained in the court of the prison.

⁶ Then tooke they Ieremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the sonne of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let downe Ieremiah with coards: and in the dungeon there was no water but myre: so Ieremiah stacke fast in the myre. ⁷ Now when Ebed-melech ye blacke More one of ye Eunuches, which was in the kings house, heard that they had put Ieremiah in the dungeon (then the King sate in the gate of Beniamin) ⁸ And Ebed-melech went out of the Kings house, and spake to the King, saying, ⁹ My lorde the King, these men haue done euill in all that they haue done to Ieremiah the Prophet, whom they haue cast into the dungeon, and he dyeth for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the citie. ¹⁰ Then the King commanded Ebed-melech the blacke More, saying, Take from hence thirtie men with thee, and take Ieremiah the Prophet out of the dungeon before he dye. ¹¹ So Ebed-melech tooke the men with him and went to the house of the King vnder the treasurie, and tooke there olde rotten ragges, and olde worne cloutes, and let them downe by coards into the dungeon to Ieremiah. ¹² And Ebed-melech the blacke More sayde vnto Ieremiah, Put now these olde rotten ragges and worne, vnder thine arme holes, betweene the coards. And Ieremiah did so. ¹³ So they drewe vp Ieremiah with coards and tooke him vp out of the dungeon, and Ieremiah remained in the court of the prison.

²⁸ So Ieremiah abode still in the court of the prison, vntill the day that Ierusalem was taken: and he was there, when Ierusalem was taken.

¹⁵ Now the worde of the Lord came vnto Ieremiah, while he was shut vp in the court of the prison, saying,

⁵² Mine enemies chased me sore like a birde, without cause. ⁵³ They haue shut vp my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone vpon me. ⁵⁴ Waters flowed ouer mine head, then thought I, I am destroyed. ⁵⁵ I called vpon thy Name, O Lord, out of the lowe dungeon.

¹⁹ And shall deliuer him to the Gentiles, to mocke, and to scourge, and to crucifie him, but the third day he shall rise againe.

³⁵ And ye husbandmen tooke his seruants and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.

³⁴ Wherefore beholde, I send vnto you Prophets, and wise men, and Scribes, and of them ye shall kill and crucifie: and of them shall ye scourge in your Synagogues, and persecute from citie to citie,

²⁶ Thus let he Barabbas loose vnto them, and scourged Iesus, and deliuered him to be crucified.

³⁴ And they shall mocke him, and scourge him, and spit vpon him, and kill him: but the third day he shall rise againe.

³² For he shall be deliuered vnto the Gentiles, and shalbe mocked, and shalbe spitefully entreated, and shalbe spitted on.

¹¹ And Herod with his men of warre, despised him, and mocked him, and arayed him in white, and sent him againe to Pilate.

³⁶ The souldiers also mocked him, and came and offered him vineger,

³ And they layde handes on them, and put them in holde, vntill the next day: for it was now euentide.

¹⁸ And laide hands on the Apostles, and put them in the common prison.

⁴⁰ And to him they agreed, and called the Apostles: and when they had beaten them, they commanded that they should not speake in the Name of Iesus, and let them goe.

³ But Saul made hauocke of the Church, and entred into euery house, and drewe out both men and women, and put them into prison.

Then he said vnto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. ⁹ So Peter came out and followed him, and knewe not that it was true, which was done by the Angel, but thought he had seene a vision. ¹⁰ Nowe when they were past the first and the second watch, they came vnto the yron gate, that leadeth vnto the citie, which opened to them by it owne accord, and they went out, and passed through one streete, and by and by the Angel departed from him. ¹¹ And when Peter was come to himselfe, he said, Nowe I know for a trueth, that the Lord hath sent his Angel, and hath deliuered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the wayting for of the people of the Iewes. ¹² And as he considered the thing, he came to the house of Marie, the mother of Iohn, whose surname was Marke, where many were gathered together, and prayed. ¹³ And when Peter knocked at the entrie doore, a maide came foorth to hearken, named Rhode, ¹⁴ But when she knew Peters voyce, she opened not the entrie doore for gladnesse, but ranne in, and tolde howe Peter stood before the entrie. ¹⁵ But they said vnto her, Thou art mad. Yet she affirmed it constantly, that it was so. Then said they, It is his Angel. ¹⁶ But Peter continued knocking, and when they had opened it, and sawe him, they were astonied. ¹⁷ And he beckened vnto them with the hand, to hold their peace, and told them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he saide, Goe shewe these things vnto Iames and to the brethren: and he departed and went into an other place. ¹⁸ Nowe assoone as it was day, there was no small trouble among the souldiers, what was become of Peter. ¹⁹ And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded them to be led to be punished. And he went downe from Iudea to Cesarea, and there abode.

²² The people also rose vp together against them, and the gouernours rent their clothes, and commanded them to be beaten with roddes. ²³ And when they had beaten them sore, they cast them into prison, commaunding the Iayler to keepe them surely. ²⁴ Who hauing receiued such commandement, cast them into the inner prison, and made their feete fast in the stockes. ²⁵ Nowe at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sung Psalmes vnto God: and the prisoners heard them. ²⁶ And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundation of the prison was shaken: and by and by all the doores opened, and euery mans bands were loosed. ²⁷ Then the keeper of the prison waked out of his sleepe, and when he sawe the prison doores open, he drewe out his sword and would haue killed himselfe, supposing the prisoners had bin fled. ²⁸ But Paul cryed with a loude voyce, saying, Doe thy selfe no harme: for we are all here. ²⁹ Then he called for a light, and leaped in, and came trembling, and fell downe before Paul and Silas, ³⁰ And brought them out, and said, Syrs, what must I doe to be saued? ³¹ And they saide, Beleeue in the Lord Iesus Christ, and thou shalt be saued, and thine houshold. ³² And they preached vnto him the worde of the Lord, and to all that were in the house. ³³ Afterwarde he tooke them the same houre of the night, and washed their stripes, and was baptized with all that belonged vnto him, straigthway. ³⁴ And when he had brought them into his house, he set meate before them, and reioyced that he with all his houshold beleeued in God. ³⁵ And when it was day, the gouernours sent the sergeants, saying, Let those men goe. ³⁶ Then the keeper of the prison tolde these woordes vnto Paul, saying, The gouerness haue sent to loose you: nowe therefore get you hence, and goe in peace. ³⁷ Then sayde Paul vnto them, After that they haue beaten vs openly vncodemned, which are Romanes, they haue cast vs into prison, and nowe would they put vs out priuily? nay verely: but let them come and bring vs out. ³⁸ And the sergeants tolde these woordes vnto the gouernours, who feared whe they heard that they were Romanes. ³⁹ Then came they and praied them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the citie. ⁴⁰ And they went out of the prison, and entred into the house of Lydia: and when they had seene the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

³³ Then the chiefe Captaine came neere and tooke him, and commanded him to be bound with two chaines, and demaunded who he was, and what he had done.

²⁷ When two yeeres were expired, Porcius Festus came into Felix roume: and Felix willing to get fauour of the Iewes, left Paul bound.

²³ They are the ministers of Christ (I speake as a foole) I am more: in labours more aboundant: in stripes aboue measure: in prison more plenteously: in death oft. ²⁴ Of the Iewes fiue times receiued I fourtie stripes saue one. ²⁵ I was thrise beaten with roddes: I was once stoned: I suffered thrise shipwracke: night and day haue I bene in the deepe sea.

¹ For this cause, I Paul am the prisoner of Iesus Christ for you Gentiles,

¹ I therefore, being prisoner in the Lord, praie you that yee walke worthie of the vocation whereunto yee are called,

¹⁶ The Lord giue mercie vnto the house of Onesiphorus: for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chaine,

⁹ Wherein I suffer trouble as an euill doer, euen vnto bondes: but the worde of God is not bounde.

³⁴ For both ye sorowed with mee for my bonds, and suffered with ioy the spoyling of your goods, knowing in your selues howe that ye haue in heauen a better, and an enduring substance.

¹⁰ Feare none of those things, which thou shalt suffer: beholde, it shall come to passe, that the deuill shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tryed, and ye shall haue tribulation tenne dayes: be thou faithfull vnto the death, and I will giue thee the crowne of life.
