¹¹ For it hath bene declared vnto me, my brethren, of you by them that are of the house of Cloe, that there are contentions among you.

⁴² And it was told to Rebekah of the wordes of Esau her elder sonne, and shee sent and called Iaakob her yonger sonne, and sayd vnto him, Beholde, thy brother Esau is comforted against thee, meaning to kill thee:

² These are the generations of Iaakob, when Ioseph was seuenteene yeere olde: he kept sheepe with his brethren, and the childe was with the sonnes of Bilhah, and with the sonnes of Zilpah, his fathers wiues. And Ioseph brought vnto their father their euill saying.

¹⁴ Nowe one of the seruantes tolde Abigail Nabals wife, saying, Beholde, Dauid sent messengers out of the wildernesse to salute our master, and he rayled on them. ¹⁵ Notwithstanding the men were very good vnto vs, and we had no displeasure, neither missed we any thing as long as we were conuersant with them, when we were in the fieldes. ¹⁶ They were as a wall vnto vs both by night and by day, all the while we were with them keeping sheepe. ¹⁷ Nowe therefore take heede, and see what thou shalt doe: for euill will surely come vpon our master, and vpon all his familie: for he is so wicked that a man can not speake to him.

¹⁰ Onely by pride doeth man make contention: but with the well aduised is wisdome.

⁶ A fooles lips come with strife, and his mouth calleth for stripes.

³ For yee are yet carnall: for whereas there is among you enuying, and strife, and diuisions, are ye not carnall, and walke as men?

¹ Dare any of you, hauing businesse against an other, be iudged vnder the vniust, and not vnder the Saintes? ² Doe ye not knowe, that the Saintes shall iudge the worlde? If the worlde then shalbe iudged by you, are ye vnworthie to iudge the smallest matters? ³ Knowe ye not that we shall iudge the Angels? howe much more, things that perteine to this life? ⁴ If then ye haue iudgements of things perteining to this life, set vp them which are least esteemed in the Church. ⁵ I speake it to your shame. Is it so that there is not a wise man among you? no not one, that can iudge betweene his brethren? ⁶ But a brother goeth to law with a brother, and that vnder the infidels. ⁷ Nowe therefore there is altogether infirmitie in you, in that yee goe to lawe one with another: why rather suffer ye not wrong? why rather susteine yee not harme?

¹⁸ For first of all, when ye come together in the Church, I heare that there are dissentions among you: and I beleeue it to be true in some part.

²⁰ For I feare least when I come, I shall not finde you such as I would: and that I shalbe found vnto you such as ye woulde not, and least there be strife, enuying, wrath, contentions, backebitings, whisperings, swellings and discord.

¹⁵ If ye bite and deuoure one another, take heede least ye be consumed one of another.

²⁰ Idolatrie, witchcraft, hatred, debate, emulations, wrath, contentions, seditions, heresies,

²⁶ Let vs not be desirous of vaine glorie, prouoking one another, enuying one another.

¹⁴ Do all things without murmuring and reasonings,

⁴ He is puft vp and knoweth nothing, but doteth about questions and strife of words, whereof commeth enuie, strife, railings, euill surmisings,

²³ And put away foolish and vnlearned questions, knowing that they ingender strife. ²⁴ But the seruant of ye Lord must not striue, but must be gentle toward all men, apt to teache, suffering the euill, ²⁵ Instructing them with meekenesse that are contrary minded, prouing if God at any time will giue them repentance, that they may acknowledge the trueth,

¹ From whence are warres and contentions among you? are they not hence, euen of your pleasures, that fight in your members? ² Ye lust, and haue not: ye enuie, and desire immoderately, and cannot obtaine: ye fight and warre, and get nothing, because ye aske not.
