⁴⁴ Lo, every one using a simile, Does use a simile concerning you, saying:As the mother--her daughter!"

¹ After the conclusion of these events, the chiefs came close to me, saying:The people of Israel and the priests and the Levites have not kept themselves separate from the peoples of the countries despite their abhorrent acts, those of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, the Ammonite, the Moabite, the Egyptian and the Amorite.

³⁵ They mixed with the nations, And they learned their customs." ³⁶ They served their fetishes, And these came to be a trap for them." ³⁷ They sacrificed their sons And their daughters to demons; ³⁸ So they shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the fetishes of Canaan, And the land was polluted with bloodshed."

²² `Son of man, what [is] this simile to you, concerning the land of Israel, saying, Prolonged are the days, and perished has every vision?

³ Thus said the Lord Yahweh to Jerusalem:Your birth and your nativity [Are] of the land of the Canaanite, Your father the Amorite, and your mother a Hittite."

⁴⁵ Your mother's daughter you [are], Loathing her husband and her sons, And your sisters' sister you [are], Who loathed their husbands and their sons, Your mother [is] a Hittite, and your father an Amorite."

² `What--to you, you--using this simile Concerning the ground of Israel, saying:Fathers do eat unripe fruit, And the sons' teeth are blunted? ³ I live--an affirmation of the Lord Yahweh, You have no more the use of this simile in Israel."
