¹⁴ And I will reject the remnant of My inheritance, and will deliver them into the hands of their enemies; and they shall be for a plunder and for a spoil to all their enemies;

¹⁷ And I will set My face against you, and you shall fall before your enemies, and they that hate you shall pursue you; and you shall flee, no one pursuing you.

³⁶ And to those who are left of you I will bring bondage into their heart in the land of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them, and they shall flee as fleeing from war, and shall fall when none pursues them. ³⁷ And brother shall disregard brother as in war, when none pursues; and you shall not be able to withstand your enemies. ³⁸ And you shall perish among the Gentiles, and the land of your enemies shall devour you.

²⁶ I call heaven and earth this day to witness against you, that you shall surely perish from off the land, into which you go across the Jordan to inherit it there; you shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall be utterly cut off. ²⁷ And the Lord shall scatter you among all nations, and you shall be left few in number among all the nations, among which the Lord shall bring you.

²⁵ The Lord shall give you up for slaughter before your enemies; you shall go out against them one way, and flee from their face seven ways; and you shall be a dispersion in all the kingdoms of the earth.

³¹ Your calf shall be slain before you, and you shall not eat of it; your donkey shall be violently taken away from you, and shall not be restored to you: your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and you shall have no helper. ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another nation, and your eyes, wasting away, shall look for them; your hand shall have no strength. ³³ A nation which you know not shall eat the produce of your land, and all your labors; and you shall be perpetually injured and crushed.

⁴⁸ And you shall serve your enemies, which the Lord will send forth against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in the desire of all things; and you shall wear upon your neck a yoke of iron until He has destroyed you.

¹⁷ And I will be very angry with them in that day, and I will leave them and turn My face away from them, and they shall be devoured. And many evils and afflictions shall come upon them, and they shall say in that day, Because the Lord my God is not with me, these evils have come upon me.

¹⁴ And the Lord was very angry with Israel; and He gave them into the hands of the plunderers, and they plundered them; and He sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, and they could not any longer resist their enemies, ¹⁵ among whomsoever they went; and the hand of the Lord was against them for evil, as the Lord spoke, and as the Lord swore to them; and He greatly afflicted them.

⁴ Perhaps the Lord your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God, and to revile Him with the words which the Lord your God has heard; and you shall offer your prayer for the remnant that is found.

³⁰ And he shall increase him that has escaped of the house of Judah, and the remnant shall strike the root beneath, and it shall produce fruit above. ³¹ For from Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and he that escapes from Mount Zion: the zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this.

² And the Lord sent raiding bands of Chaldeans against him, and bands of Syrians, and bands of Moabites, and bands of Ammonites, and sent them into the land of Judah to prevail against it, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by His servants the prophets.

² And he went out to meet Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin, and said, Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you, while you are with Him; and if you seek Him out, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.

¹⁶ Nevertheless they sneered at His messengers, and despised His words, and mocked His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose up against His people, till there was no remedy. ¹⁷ And He brought the king of the Chaldeans against them, and killed their young men with the sword in the house of His sanctuary, and did not spare Zedekiah, and had no mercy upon their virgins, and they led away their old men; He delivered all things into their hands.

²⁷ Then You gave them into the hand of them that afflicted them, and they did afflict them. And they cried to You in the time of their affliction, and You heard them from heaven, and in Your great mercy You gave them deliverers, and saved them from the hand of them that afflicted them. ²⁸ But when they rested, they did evil again before You, so You left them in the hands of their enemies, and they ruled over them; and they cried again to You, and You heard from heaven, and delivered them in Your great mercy. ²⁹ And You testified against them, to bring them back to Your law; but they hearkened not, and sinned against Your commandments and Your judgments, which if a man does, he shall live in them; and they turned their back, and hardened their neck, and heard not. ³⁰ Yet You had patience with them for many years, and testified to them by Your Spirit by the hand of Your prophets: but they hearkened not; so You gave them into the hand of the nations of the land. ³¹ But You in Your many mercies did not appoint them to destruction, and did not forsake them; for You are strong, and merciful, and compassionate. ³² And now, O our God, the powerful, the great, the mighty, and the terrible, keeping Your covenant and Your mercy, let not all this trouble seem little in Your sight which has come upon us, and our kings, and our princes, and our priests, and our prophets, and our fathers, and upon all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria even to this day. ³³ For You are righteous in all the things that come upon us; and You have dealt faithfully, but we have greatly sinned. ³⁴ And our kings, and our princes, and our priests, and our fathers, have not performed Your law, and have not given heed to Your commandments, and have not kept Your testimonies which You testified to them. ³⁵ And they did not serve You in Your kingdom, and in Your great goodness which You gave to them, and in the large and fat land which You furnished before them, and they turned not from their evil devices. ³⁶ Behold, we are servants this day, and as for the land which You gave to our fathers, to eat the fruit of it and the good things of it, behold, we are servants upon it; ³⁷ and its produce is abundant for the kings whom You appointed over us because of our sins; and they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, as it pleases them, and we are in great affliction.

²⁸ For the Lord loves judgment, and will not forsake His saints; they shall be preserved forever; the blameless shall be avenged, but the seed of the ungodly shall be utterly destroyed.

O Lord, I have hoped in You; let me never be put to shame. ² In Your righteousness deliver me and rescue me: incline Your ear to me, and save me. ³ Be to me a protecting God, and a stronghold to save me; for You are my fortress and my refuge. ⁴ Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the sinner, from the hand of the transgressor and unjust man. ⁵ For You are my support, O Lord; O Lord, You are my hope from my youth. ⁶ On You have I been stayed from the womb: from the belly of my mother You have been my protector: of You is my praise offered continually. ⁷ I have become as it were a wonder to many, but You are my strong helper.

³⁸ But You have cast off and set at nought, You have rejected Your anointed. ³⁹ You have overthrown the covenant of Your servant; You have profaned his sanctuary, casting it to the ground. ⁴⁰ You have broken down all his hedges; You have made his strongholds a terror. ⁴¹ All that go by the way have spoiled him; he has become a reproach to his neighbors. ⁴² You have exalted the right hand of his enemies; You have made all his enemies to rejoice. ⁴³ You have turned back the help of his sword, and have not helped him in the battle. ⁴⁴ You have deprived him of glory; You have broken down his throne to the ground. ⁴⁵ You have shortened the days of his throne; You have poured shame upon him. Pause.

⁴⁰ So the Lord was very angry with His people, and He abhorred His inheritance. ⁴¹ And He delivered them into the hands of their enemies; and they that hated them ruled over them. ⁴² Ands their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought down under their hands. ⁴³ Many a time He delivered them; but they provoked Him by their counsel, and they were brought low by their iniquities.

⁶ I will send My wrath against a sinful nation, and I will command My people to take plunder and spoil, and to trample the cities, and to make dust out of them.

⁷ I have forsaken My house, I have left My heritage; I have given My beloved one into the hands of her enemies.

³³ And if this people, or the priest, or the prophet, should ask, What is the burden of the Lord? Then you shall say to them, You are the burden, and I will dash you down, says the Lord.

⁵ ( { δ}) HE. Her oppressors have become the head, and her enemies have prospered; for the Lord has afflicted her because of the multitude of her sins. Her young children have gone into captivity before the face of the oppressor.

¹⁰ ( { ι}) JOD. The oppressor has stretched out his hand on all her desirable things, for she has seen the Gentiles entering into her sanctuary, concerning whom You commanded that they should not enter into Your congregation.

²⁰ Why will You utterly forget us, and abandon us a long time?

² The virgin of Israel has fallen; there is none that shall raise her up.
