¹⁴ Whoso maketh great boasts & geueth nothing, is like cloudes & wind without rain.

¹² For we can not fynde in oure hertes to make oure selues of the numbre of them, or to compare oure selues to them, whiche laud them selues, neuerthelesse while they measure them selues wyth them selues, and compare them selues with them selues, they vnderstande nought. ¹³ But we wyll not reioyce aboue measure: but accordynge to the quantitye of the measure, whiche God hath distrybuted vnto vs, a measure that reacheth euen vnto you. ¹⁴ For we stretche not oure selues beyonde measure, as thoughe we had not reacheth vnto you. For euen vnto you haue we come with the Gospell of Christe, ¹⁵ and we boste not oure selues out of measure in other mens labours. Yea, and we hope, when your fayth is increased amonge you, to be magnifyed accordynge to oure measure more largelye, ¹⁶ and to preache the Gospell in those regyons, whiche are beyonde you: and not to reioyce of that whiche is by another mans measure prepared already. ¹⁷ Let hym that reioyceth, reioyce in the Lord. ¹⁸ For he that prayseth hym self, is not allowed: but he whom the Lorde prayseth.

⁹ and commeth not of workes, leste anye man should bost him selfe.

⁸ For by grace are ye made safe thorowe fayth, and that not of youre selues. For it is the gyfte of God, ⁹ and commeth not of workes, leste anye man should bost him selfe.

⁵ euen so the tonge is a lyttell member, and boasteth greate thinges. Beholde howe greate a thynge a lyttell fyre kyndleth,

¹³ Go to nowe ye that saye: to daye, and to morowe let vs go into suche a cytye and contynue there a yeare and bye and sel, and wynne: ¹⁴ and yet can not tell what shall happen to morowe. For what thynge is youre lyfe? It is euen a vapoure that appeareth for a lyttel tyme, and then vanysheth awaye: ¹⁵ For that ye oughte to saye: yf the Lorde wyll and yf we lyue, let vs do thys or that. ¹⁶ But nowe ye reioyce in youre bostynges. All suche reioysing is euyl.

⁴ How longe shall all wicked doers speake so disdaynfully, and make such proude boastynge?

⁸ For by grace are ye made safe thorowe fayth, and that not of youre selues. For it is the gyfte of God,

⁷ For who preferreth the? What haste thou, that thou hast not receyued? Yf thou haue receyued it ewhy reioyseste thou as thoughe thou haddeste not receiued it?

³⁰ Yf I muste nedes reioyce, I wyll reioyce of myne infirmities.

¹ Make not thy boaste of to morow, for thou knowest not what maye happen to day.

¹ Thys vnderstand, that in the last dayes shall come perylous tymes. ² For the men shall be louers of theyr owne selues coueteous, bosters, proude, cursed speakers, dysobedyent to father and mother, vnthankefull, vnholye, ³ vnkynde, truce breakers, stubborne false accusars, ryatours, fierce despysers of them whiche are good, ⁴ traytours, headye, hye mynded, gredy vpon voluptuousnes more then the louers of God, ⁵ hauynge a simylytude of Godly lyuynge, but haue denyed the power thereof: and suche abhorre.

² Let another man praise the, & not thine own mouth yea other folkes lips, & not thine.

²³ Moreouer, thus sayeth the Lorde: Let not the wyse man reioyse in his wisdome, nor the stronge man in hys strength, neyther the ryche man in hys ryches:

¹⁶ But nowe ye reioyce in youre bostynges. All suche reioysing is euyl.
