¹⁸ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

²⁴ Make no friendship with an angry man; and you shall not go up with a man of fury, ²⁵ lest you learn his ways and get a snare to your soul.

¹⁶ You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?

¹⁵ But if your brother shall trespass against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. ¹⁶ But if he will not hear you, take one or two more with you, so that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. ¹⁷ And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he neglects to hear the church, let him be to you as a heathen and a tax-collector.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil.

⁴ And fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

The old commandment is the Word which you have heard from the beginning. ⁸ Again, I write a new commandment to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true Light now shines. ⁹ He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in darkness until now. ¹⁰ He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no offense in him. ¹¹ But he who hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because darkness has blinded his eyes. ¹² I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name's sake. ¹³ I write to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father. ¹⁴ I write to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the Word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. ¹⁵ Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, ¹⁶ because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passes away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever. ¹⁸ Little children, it is the last time. And just as you have heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have risen up, from which we know that it is the last hour. ¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they were of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out so that it might be revealed that they were not all of us. ²⁰ But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. ²¹ I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and know that no lie is of the truth. ²² Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He who denies the Father and the Son is antichrist. ²³ Everyone who denies the Son neither has the Father. The one confessing the Son also has the Father. ²⁴ Therefore what you heard from the beginning, let it abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you will abide in both the Son and in the Father. ²⁵ And this is the promise that He has promised us: everlasting life. ²⁶ These things I have written to you concerning those leading you astray. ²⁷ But the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as His anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true and no lie, and as He has taught you, abide in Him. ²⁸ And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He is revealed, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him in His coming. ²⁹ If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who does righteousness has been born of Him.

¹ To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, the servant of Jehovah. The oracle utters transgression to the wicked within my heart. There is no fear of God before his eyes. ² For he flatters himself in his own eyes in order to find his iniquity, to hate it. ³ The words of his mouth are evil and deceit; he has stopped acting wisely and doing good.

¹⁶ They profess that they know God, but in their works they deny Him, being abominable and disobedient and reprobate to every good work.

¹² Before shattering, the heart of man is proud, and before honor is humility.

¹⁷ And I exhort you, brothers, to watch those making divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned, and avoid them. ¹⁸ For they who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches they deceive the hearts of the simple. ¹⁹ For your obedience reached to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf, But I would have you truly wise as to good, and simple toward evil.

Among these you shine as lights in the world, ¹⁶ holding forth the Word of Life, so that I may rejoice with you in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain nor labored in vain. ¹⁷ Yea, and if I am offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy and rejoice with you all. ¹⁸ And you also rejoice in the same, and rejoice with me. ¹⁹ But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly to you, so that I also may be of good comfort when I know your state. ²⁰ For I have no one who is like-minded, who will naturally care for your state. ²¹ For all seek their own, not the things which are of Jesus Christ. ²² But you know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he has served with me in the gospel. ²³ Therefore I hope to send him presently, as soon as I shall see the things about me. ²⁴ But I trust in the Lord that I myself shall also come shortly. ²⁵ Yet I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow-worker, and fellow-soldier, but your messenger and he who ministered to my wants. ²⁶ For he longed after you all and was full of heaviness, because you had heard that he had been sick. ²⁷ For indeed he was sick, coming near death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. ²⁸ Therefore I sent him the more eagerly, so that you may rejoice when you see him again, and that I may be the less sorrowful. ²⁹ Therefore receive him in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such in honor, ³⁰ because for the work of Christ he was near death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

⁵ Likewise, younger ones, be subject to older ones, and all being subject to one another. Put on humility. For God resists proud ones, but He gives grace to the humble. ⁶ Therefore be humbled under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time,

¹ Know this also, that in the last days grievous times will be at hand. ² For men will be self-lovers, money-lovers, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, unyielding, false accusers, without self-control, savage, despisers of good, ⁴ traitors, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, ⁵ having a form of godliness, but denying the power of it; even turn away from these. ⁶ For of these are those who creep into houses and lead captive silly women loaded with sins, led away with different kinds of lusts, ⁷ ever learning and never able to come to the full knowledge of the truth.
