⁵ And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man. ⁶ Whoever sheds man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

¹ Blessed be the LORD my strength which teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:

⁴ For he is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath on him that does evil.

¹ Him that is weak in the faith receive you, but not to doubtful disputations.

³⁸ You have heard that it has been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: ³⁹ But I say to you, That you resist not evil: but whoever shall smite you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.

⁵² Then said Jesus to him, Put up again your sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. ⁵³ Think you that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? ⁵⁴ But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

⁵ The LORD tries the righteous: but the wicked and him that loves violence his soul hates.
