¹⁰ and then shall many be stumbled, and they shall deliver up one another, and shall hate one another.

⁵ Believe not in a friend, trust not in a leader, From her who is lying in thy bosom keep the openings of thy mouth. ⁶ For a son is dishonouring a father, A daughter hath stood against her mother, A daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, The enemies of each are the men of his house.

²¹ `And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and father child, and children shall rise up against parents, and shall put them to death,

³⁵ for I came to set a man at variance against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, ³⁶ and the enemies of a man are those of his household.

⁶ and happy is he who may not be stumbled in me.'

²¹ and he hath not root in himself, but is temporary, and persecution or tribulation having happened because of the word, immediately he is stumbled.

⁵⁷ and they were stumbled at him. And Jesus said to them, `A prophet is not without honour except in his own country, and in his own house:'

²¹ and while they are eating, he said, `Verily I say to you, that one of you shall deliver me up.' <sup>22</sup> And being grieved exceedingly, they began to say to him, each of them, `Is it I, Sir?' ²³ And he answering said, `He who did dip with me the hand in the dish, he will deliver me up; ²⁴ the Son of Man doth indeed go, as it hath been written concerning him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is delivered up! good it were for him if that man had not been born.'

³¹ then saith Jesus to them, `All ye shall be stumbled at me this night; for it hath been written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad; <sup>32</sup> but, after my having risen, I will go before you to Galilee.' <sup>33</sup> And Peter answering said to him, `Even if all shall be stumbled at thee, I will never be stumbled.' ³⁴ Jesus said to him, `Verily I say to thee, that, this night, before cock-crowing, thrice thou wilt deny me.'

¹⁷ and have not root in themselves, but are temporary; afterward tribulation or persecution having come because of the word, immediately they are stumbled.

⁶⁶ From this time many of his disciples went away backward, and were no more walking with him, ⁶⁷ Jesus, therefore, said to the twelve, `Do ye also wish to go away?'

¹⁵ thou hast known this, that they did turn from me—all those in Asia, of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes;

¹⁰ for Demas forsook me, having loved the present age, and went on to Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia,

¹⁶ in my first defence no one stood with me, but all forsook me, (may it not be reckoned to them!)
