²⁰ `Remember the word that I said to you, A servant is not greater than his lord; if me they did persecute, you also they will persecute; if my word they did keep, yours also they will keep;

⁷ And Jehovah saith unto Samuel, `Hearken to the voice of the people, to all that they say unto thee, for thee they have not rejected, but Me they have rejected, from reigning over them.

¹ Who hath given credence to that which we heard? And the arm of Jehovah, On whom hath it been revealed? ² Yea, he cometh up as a tender plant before Him, And as a root out of a dry land, He hath no form, nor honour, when we observe him, Nor appearance, when we desire him. ³ He is despised, and left of men, A man of pains, and acquainted with sickness, And as one hiding the face from us, He is despised, and we esteemed him not.

⁷ but the house of Israel are not willing to hearken unto thee, for they are not willing to hearken unto Me, for all the house of Israel are brazen-faced and strong-hearted.

²⁴ `A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his lord;

³⁴ and Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, `Lo, this one is set for the falling and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken against—

⁴⁰ A disciple is not above his teacher, but every one perfected shall be as his teacher.

¹⁶ and because of this were the Jews persecuting Jesus, and seeking to kill him, because these things he was doing on a sabbath.

³² The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they may take him;

⁵¹ verily, verily, I say to you, If any one may keep my word, death he may not see—to the age.'

⁵⁹ they took up, therefore, stones that they may cast at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went forth out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

³¹ Therefore, again, did the Jews take up stones that they may stone him;

⁵⁷ and both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if any one may know where he is, he may shew it, so that they may seize him.

²⁷ for gathered together of a truth against Thy holy child Jesus, whom Thou didst anoint, were both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with nations and peoples of Israel, ²⁸ to do whatever Thy hand and Thy counsel did determine before to come to pass. ²⁹ `And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings, and grant to Thy servants with all freedom to speak Thy word, ³⁰ in the stretching forth of Thy hand, for healing, and signs, and wonders, to come to pass through the name of Thy holy child Jesus.'

⁵² which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed those who declared before about the coming of the Righteous One, of whom now ye betrayers and murderers have become, ⁵³ who received the law by arrangement of messengers, and did not keep it .'
⁵⁴ And hearing these things, they were cut to the hearts, and did gnash the teeth at him; ⁵⁵ and being full of the Holy Spirit, having looked stedfastly to the heaven, he saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, ⁵⁶ and he said, `Lo, I see the heavens having been opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God.' <sup>57</sup> And they, having cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and did rush with one accord upon him, <sup>58</sup> and having cast him forth outside of the city, they were stoning him —and the witnesses did put down their garments at the feet of a young man called Saul— <sup>59</sup> and they were stoning Stephen, calling and saying, `Lord Jesus, receive my spirit;' ⁶⁰ and having bowed the knees, he cried with a loud voice, `Lord, mayest thou not lay to them this sin;' and this having said, he fell asleep.

¹² and labour, working with our own hands; being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer;

⁹ persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

¹⁵ who did both put to death the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and did persecute us, and God they are not pleasing, and to all men are contrary,
