⁷ Brethren, a new command I write not to you, but an old command, that ye had from the beginning—the old command is the word that ye heard from the beginning;

¹⁸ `Thou dost not take vengeance, nor watch the sons of thy people; and thou hast had love to thy neighbour as thyself; I am Jehovah.

³⁴ as a native among you is the sojourner to you who is sojourning with you, and thou hast had love to him as to thyself, for sojourners ye have been in the land of Egypt; I am Jehovah your God.

⁵ and thou hast loved Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might,

⁴³ `Ye heard that it was said: Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and shalt hate thine enemy;

³⁷ And Jesus said to him, `Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thine understanding— ³⁸ this is a first and great command; ³⁹ and the second is like to it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself; ⁴⁰ on these—the two commands—all the law and the prophets do hang.'

²⁹ and Jesus answered him—`The first of all the commands is, Hear, O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is one; <sup>30</sup> and thou shalt love the Lord thy God out of all thy heart, and out of thy soul, and out of all thine understanding, and out of all thy strength—this is the first command; <sup>31</sup> and the second is like it, this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself; —greater than these there is no other command.' <sup>32</sup> And the scribe said to him, `Well, Teacher, in truth thou hast spoken that there is one God, and there is none other but He; ³³ and to love Him out of all the heart, and out of all the understanding, and out of all the soul, and out of all the strength, and to love one's neighbour as one's self, is more than all the whole burnt-offerings and the sacrifices.' ³⁴ And Jesus, having seen him that he answered with understanding, said to him, `Thou art not far from the reign of God;' and no one any more durst question him.

¹⁹ having also taken him, unto the Areopagus they brought him, saying, `Are we able to know what is this new teaching that is spoken by thee,

⁸ To no one owe anything, except to love one another; for he who is loving the other—law he hath fulfilled, ⁹ for, `Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false testimony, Thou shalt not covet;' and if there is any other command, in this word it is summed up, in this: `Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself;' ¹⁰ the love to the neighbour doth work no ill; the love, therefore, is the fulness of law.

¹³ For ye—to freedom ye were called, brethren, only not the freedom for an occasion to the flesh, but through the love serve ye one another, ¹⁴ for all the law in one word is fulfilled—in this: `Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself;'

⁸ If, indeed, royal law ye complete, according to the Writing, `Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself,' —ye do well; <sup>9</sup> and if ye accept persons, sin ye do work, being convicted by the law as transgressors; <sup>10</sup> for whoever the whole law shall keep, and shall stumble in one point, he hath become guilty of all; <sup>11</sup> for He who is saying, `Thou mayest not commit adultery,' said also, `Thou mayest do no murder;' and if thou shalt not commit adultery, and shalt commit murder, thou hast become a transgressor of law; ¹² so speak ye and so do, as about by a law of liberty to be judged,

²⁴ Ye, then, that which ye heard from the beginning, in you let it remain; if in you may remain that which from the beginning ye did hear, ye also in the Son and in the Father shall remain,

¹¹ because this is the message that ye did hear from the beginning, that we may love one another,

²³ and this is His command, that we may believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and may love one another, even as He did give command to us,

⁵ and now I beseech thee, Kyria, not as writing to thee a new command, but which we had from the beginning, that we may love one another, ⁶ and this is the love, that we may walk according to His commands; this is the command, even as ye did hear from the beginning, that in it ye may walk,
