³ for yet ye are fleshly, for where there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not fleshly, and in the manner of men do walk?

⁷ And they, as Adam, transgressed a covenant, There they dealt treacherously against me.

²¹ for from within, out of the heart of men, the evil reasonings do come forth, adulteries, whoredoms, murders, ²² thefts, covetous desires, wickedness, deceit, arrogance, an evil eye, evil speaking, pride, foolishness;

¹³ as in day-time, let us walk becomingly; not in revellings and drunkennesses, not in chamberings and lasciviousnesses, not in strife and emulation;

¹¹ for it was signified to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe, that contentions are among you;

¹ Dare any one of you, having a matter with the other, go to be judged before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? ² have ye not known that the saints shall judge the world? and if by you the world is judged, are ye unworthy of the smaller judgments? ³ have ye not known that we shall judge messengers? why not then the things of life? ⁴ of the things of life, indeed, then, if ye may have judgment, those despised in the assembly—these cause ye to sit; ⁵ unto your shame I speak: so there is not among you one wise man, not even one, who shall be able to discern in the midst of his brethren! ⁶ but brother with brother doth go to be judged, and this before unbelievers! ⁷ Already, indeed, then, there is altogether a fault among you, that ye have judgments with one another; wherefore do ye not rather suffer injustice? wherefore be ye not rather defrauded? ⁸ but ye—ye do injustice, and ye defraud, and these—brethren!

¹⁸ for first, indeed, ye coming together in an assembly, I hear of divisions being among you, and partly I believe it,

²⁰ for I fear lest, having come, not such as I wish I may find you, and I—I may be found by you such as ye do not wish, lest there be strifes, envyings, wraths, revelries, evil-speakings, whisperings, puffings up, insurrections,

¹⁵ and if one another ye do bite and devour, see—that ye may not by one another be consumed.

¹⁹ And manifest also are the works of the flesh, which are: Adultery, whoredom, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strifes, emulations, wraths, rivalries, dissensions, sects, ²¹ envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revellings, and such like, of which I tell you before, as I also said before, that those doing such things the reign of God shall not inherit.

² in which once ye did walk according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience, ³ among whom also we all did walk once in the desires of our flesh, doing the wishes of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath—as also the others,

²² ye are to put off concerning the former behaviour the old man, that is corrupt according to the desires of the deceit, ²³ and to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, ²⁴ and to put on the new man, which, according to God, was created in righteousness and kindness of the truth.

³ for we were once—also we—thoughtless, disobedient, led astray, serving desires and pleasures manifold, in malice and envy living, odious—hating one another;

¹⁶ for where zeal and rivalry are, there is insurrection and every evil matter;

¹ Whence are wars and fightings among you? not thence—out of your passions, that are as soldiers in your members? ² ye desire, and ye have not; ye murder, and are zealous, and are not able to attain; ye fight and war, and ye have not, because of your not asking;

² no more in the desires of men, but in the will of God, to live the rest of the time in the flesh;
