⁵ For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions while we were under the law operated in our bodies so as to bring forth fruit unto death.

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed wicked disputings, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false-witnessings, slanders:

⁶ That, which is born of the flesh, is flesh; and that, which is born of the Spirit, is spirit.

²⁶ Therefore God gave them up to infamous passions: for even their women changed the natural use into that which is unnatural,

²⁰ Wherefore by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified before Him: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

¹⁵ Now the law worketh wrath; for where there is no law, there is no transgression.

²⁰ Now the law made some entrance, that the offence might appear to abound; but where sin abounded, grace hath superabounded; that as sin had reigned in death,

¹³ Neither yield your bodies as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but present yourselves to God as alive from the dead, and your bodies as instruments of righteousness to God.

¹⁹ I speak after the manner of men, because of the infirmity of your flesh: as ye have yielded your bodies servants to impurity and iniquity to work iniquity; so now present your bodies servants to righteousness, unto holiness.

²¹ What fruit therefore had ye then in the things, which ye are now ashamed of? for the end of those things is death.

²³ For the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁷ What shall we say then? is the law sin? God forbid! Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust to be sinful, if the law had not said, "Thou shalt not covet." ⁸ But sin taking occasion by the commandment wrought in me all manner of concupiscence: for without the law sin was dead. ⁹ And I was heretofore alive without the law: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died: ¹⁰ and the commandment which was intended to life, I found to be unto death. ¹¹ For sin taking occasion by the commandment deceived me, and by it slew me. ¹² So that the law is holy; and the commandment holy, and just, and good. ¹³ Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid! But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good: that sin might be shewn by the commandment to be exceeding sinful.

²³ but I perceive another law in my body warring against the law of my mind, and captivating me to the law of sin, which is in my body.

⁸ and they who are carnal, cannot please God. ⁹ But ye are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if the Spirit of God dwelleth in you: but if any one hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

⁵⁶ the sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law:

⁶ Who hath also fitted us to be ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter, but of the Spirit: for the letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth life. ⁷ Now if the ministration of death which was in writing, and engraven on stones, was so glorious that the children of Israel could not look stedfastly on the face of Moses, because of the lustre of his countenance, which was to be taken away: ⁸ shall not the ministration of the Spirit be more glorious? ⁹ For if the ministration of condemnation was so glorious, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory: ¹⁰ For as many as are of the works of the law, are under the curse; for it is written, Cursed be every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.

¹⁶ I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye will not fulfil the desire of the flesh: ¹⁷ for the flesh desireth things contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit things contrary to the flesh: and these are opposite to each other; so that ye do not those things which ye would.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, such as, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, ²⁰ lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, enmities, strifes, emulations, animosities, contentions, divisions, ²¹ heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and the like: of which I forewarn you, as I have also told you before, that they who practise such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

²⁴ And they, that are Christ's, have crucified the flesh with it's passions and desires.

³ among whom also we were all conversant heretofore in our carnal desires, indulging the appetites of the flesh and of our imaginations; and were by nature children of wrath, even as others.

¹¹ Wherefore remember that ye were formerly Gentiles in the flesh, called uncircumcision by that which is called circumcision made by hands in the flesh;

⁵ Mortify therefore your members that are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, disorderly passion, evil concupiscence, and insatiable desire, which is indeed idolatry:

³ For we also were formerly foolish, disobedient, going astray, enslaved to various disorderly appetites and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

¹⁵ Then desire having conceived bringeth forth sin, and sin when it is finished bringeth forth death.

⁹ But if ye partially respect persons, ye commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors. ¹⁰ For whosoever shall keep the whole law besides, but offend in one point, he is under the penalty of all:

¹ Whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence? even of your carnal appetites making war in your bodies?

⁴ Every one that committeth sin, transgresseth the law; for sin is the violation of the law.
