²⁸ Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple, but we are the disciples of Moses: we know that God spake to Moses:

¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile and persecute you, and utter all manner of reproach against you falsly, for my sake:

³⁹ And they that passed by reviled Him, shaking their heads,

⁴⁵ Think not that I shall accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. ⁴⁶ For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote concerning me: ⁴⁷ but if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

¹⁹ Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you observeth the law? wherefore else do ye seek to kill me?

⁴⁷ The pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also deceived? ⁴⁸ have any of the rulers believed on Him, or of the pharisees? ⁴⁹ but these people, who know not the law, are cursed. ⁵⁰ Upon this Nicodemus, (who came to Him by night) ⁵¹ being one of them, saith to them, Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he hath done? ⁵² They replied, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and see: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.

³⁴ They answered, and said unto him, Thou wast wholly born in sins, and dost thou teach us?

¹¹ Then they suborned men to say, we heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God. ¹² And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes; and they came upon him, and forced him along with them, and brought him to the council: ¹³ and they set up false witnesses; who said, This man is continually speaking blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law. ¹⁴ For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and change the rites which Moses delivered to us.

¹⁷ Behold thou art called a Jew, and restest on the law, and boastest in God,

¹² and we labour working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless: when persecuted, we bear it: when defamed, we intreat.

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor rapacious persons, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

²³ who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously.
