²² by so much is Jesus become the surety of a better covenant.

²⁸ for this is my blood, the blood of the new covenant, which is to be shed for many for the remission of sins:

²⁴ And He said unto them, This is an emblem of my blood the seal of the new covenant, which is to be shed for many:

²⁰ as also the cup after supper, saying, This cup represents the new covenant in my blood, which is shed for you.

²⁵ And in the same manner He took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant ratified in my blood: this do, as often as ye drink of it, in remembrance of me."

⁶ But now He hath obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which is established upon better promises. ⁷ For if the first covenant had been unexceptionable, there had been no room for a second: ⁸ as we see there was, for after complaining of them, He adds, "Behold the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: ⁹ not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers, in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; for they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. ¹⁰ But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their mind, and I will inscribe them on their hearts; and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people. ¹¹ And they shall not teach every one his neighbour, and every one his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the lest even to the greatest of them. ¹² For I will forgive their crimes, and their sins and their iniquities I will remember no more."

¹⁵ And on this account He is the mediator of a new covenant, that undergoing death for the redemption of transgressions against the first covenant, they that are called might receive the promise of an eternal inheritance. ¹⁶ For where a testament is, there is a necessity of proving the death of the testator. ¹⁷ For a testament is valid after men are dead, but is of no force while the testator is living. ¹⁸ Whence neither was the first covenant entered into without blood: ¹⁹ for when every command was spoken according to the law, by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled the book and all the people, ²⁰ saying, this is the blood of the covenant, which God hath enjoined you. ²¹ And the tabernacle, and all the vessels of public worship he likewise sprinkled with blood. ²² And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood; and without shedding of blood there is no remission. ²³ It was therefore necessary that the representations of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with more excellent sacrifices than these.

²⁴ and to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than Abel.

²⁰ Now the God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the everlasting covenant,
