³ Wherefore, brethren, look out from among you seven men of good character, full of the holy Spirit, and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this matter:

⁸ But be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your instructor even Christ, and ye are all brethren.

²¹ Wherefore it is necessary that one of these men, who have been conversant with us all the time that the Lord Jesus came in and out among us,

⁴ and they were all filled with the holy Spirit, and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

⁶ These they set before the apostles; who, when they had prayed, laid their hands upon them.

³⁰ but when the brethren knew it, they brought him down to Cesarea, and sent him away to Tarsus.

²² And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a righteous man, and one that feareth God, and of a good character among all the nation of the Jews, hath been warned from God by an holy angel, to send for thee to his house, and to hear what thou shalt say.

² and as they were ministring to the Lord, and fasting, the holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul, for the work to which I have called them. ³ Then having fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them they sent them away.

²³ and they wrote by their hand, as follows, The apostles and elders and brethren here to the Gentile brethren which are in Antioch, and Syria, and Cilicia, send greeting.

² Who was well spoken of by the brethren at Lystra and Iconium:

¹² And one Ananias, a devout observer of the law, who had a good character from all the Jews that dwelt there,

⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

³ And when I am with you, whomsoever ye shall approve, I will send, with your letters, to carry your bounty to Jerusalem.

¹⁹ (and not only so, but he was also chosen by the churches to accompany us with this grace, which is administered by us for the glory of the same Lord, and to shew your readiness of mind:) ²⁰ hereby taking care that no one might blame us in the disposal of this large sum which is administered by us: ²¹ looking to things that are right not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

¹⁸ And be not drunk with wine, in which there is riotous excess; but be filled with the Spirit:

⁷ He ought also to have an honorable testimony from those that are without, least he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. ⁸ The deacons should likewise be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of base gain, ⁹ holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. ¹⁰ (And let these also first be proved, then let them take the office of deacons, if they be found blameless.) ¹¹ And their wives likewise grave, not slanderers, sober, and faithful in all things. ¹² Let the deacons too be husbands of one wife only, governing their children and their own houses well. ¹³ For they, that discharge the office of a deacon well, gain to themselves a good degree of honor, and much freedom in promoting the faith that is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁴ These things I write unto thee, hoping to come to thee shortly. ¹⁵ But if I should be retarded, that thou mayst know how thou oughtest to behave in the house of God, the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

¹⁰ having been the wife of one man: in repute for good actions, if she have educated children, if she have entertained strangers, if she have washed the feet of saints, if she have relieved the afflicted, and diligently followed every good work.

¹⁷ and every perfect gift, but no evil one, is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, nor shadow of turning:

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above first is pure, then peaceable, mild, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those that promote peace.

¹⁴ since we know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren: he, that loveth not his brother, remaineth in death. ¹⁵ Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. ¹⁶ In this we know his love, that He laid down his life for us: and we should be ready to lay down our lives for the brethren.

¹² A good testimony is borne to Demetrius by all men, and by the truth itself: yea, and we also bear him like witness, and ye know that our testimony is true.
