²⁵ Now in the middle of the night Paul and Silas were praying and singing praises to God, and the prisoners heard them.

¹⁰ Blessed are they, who are persecuted for righteousness sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile and persecute you, and utter all manner of reproach against you falsly, for my sake:

³⁸ and saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death, stay here and watch with me. ³⁹ And going a little farther, He prostrated himself, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and reject you, and reproach you, and cast out your name as infamous on account of the Son of man. ²³ Rejoice in that day, and be exceeding glad; for behold, your reward is great in heaven: for thus did their fathers to the prophets.

⁴⁴ And being in agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was like clotted blood falling down upon the ground.

⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer disgrace for his name.

³ And not only so, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation worketh patience,

¹² Rejoicing in hope, patient under affliction, persevering in prayer,

⁸ being afflicted on every side, but not oppressed; perplexed, but not in despair; ⁹ persecuted, but not forsaken;

¹⁶ For which cause we are not disheartened: but though our outward man decayeth, yet the inward man is renewed daily. ¹⁷ For our short and light affliction is working out for us an infinite and eternal weight of glory, as we aim not at the things which are visible, but invisible:

¹⁰ as sorrowing, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing all things.

¹⁹ speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord:

¹⁷ But if I be even poured forth as a libation on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and congratulate with you all.

⁴ Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, Rejoice. ⁵ Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. ⁶ Be anxious in nothing: but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known before God. ⁷ And the peace of God, which surpasseth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

²⁴ Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up what is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for the sake of his body, which is the church.

¹⁵ And let the peace of God preside in your hearts, to which ye are also called as united in one body: and be thankful for it. ¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another by psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude singing in your hearts to the Lord. ¹⁷ And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to our God and Father by Him.

¹⁶ Be always joyful. ¹⁷ Pray continually. ¹⁸ In every circumstance be thankful; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, offered prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears, to Him that was able to save Him from death, and was heard in what He feared;

² Account it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into various trials:

¹³ Is any among you afflicted? let him pray: is any chearful? let him sing psalms.

⁶ In which ye rejoice, tho' now for a little while, if need be, ye are grieved through various trials. ⁷ That the proof of your faith, which is much more precious than of gold, (that perisheth, though tried by fire) may be found unto praise, and honor, and glory, when Jesus Christ shall be revealed: ⁸ whom having not seen ye love; in whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing ye rejoice with joy ineffable and full of glory; receiving the end of your faith,

¹⁴ If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: and though as to them He is blasphemed, yet as to you He is glorified.
