²⁹ Conscience I say, not thy own, but the other's; for why is my liberty to be judged by another man's conscience?

¹⁵ But if thy brother be grieved by thy food, thou dost not herein walk in love. Do not by thy food destroy him, for whom Christ died. ¹⁶ Let not your liberty then be evil-spoken of: for the kingdom of God consists not in meat and drink; ¹⁷ but in righteousness and peace, and joy in the holy Ghost: for he, ¹⁸ that in these serveth Christ, is acceptable to God, and approved by men. ¹⁹ Let us then pursue peace, and mutual edification. ²⁰ Do not for the sake of meat destroy thy brother who is the work of God: all things indeed are pure; but to the man that eateth with offence it is evil. ²¹ It is good not to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor to do any thing at which thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or weakened.

⁹ But see that this liberty of yours be not by any means a stumbling-block to the weak. ¹⁰ For if any one see thee, who hast knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, will not the conscience of him that is weak be encouraged to eat of the things sacrificed to idols? ¹¹ and so the weak brother, for whom Christ died, shall perish by thy knowledge? ¹² But in thus sinning against your brethren, and wounding their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ: ¹³ wherefore if meat make my brother to offend, I will never eat flesh while I breathe, least I make my brother to offend.

¹⁹ For though I am free from all, yet I have made myself a servant to all, that I might gain the more.

³² Behave inoffensively both to the Jews, and to the Greeks, and to the church of God.
