⁴⁶ And there entered a reasoning among them, as to which of them should be greatest.

¹ At that time the disciples came near to Jesus, saying, "Who then is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?" ² And, having called a little child to Him, He placed it in the midst of them, ³ and said, "Verily I say to you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. ⁴ Whosoever, therefore, shall humble himself as this little child, he is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. ⁵ And whosoever receives one such little child in My name, receives Me.

²⁰ Then came to Him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, worshiping and asking something of Him. ²¹ And He said to her, "What do you wish?" She says to Him, "Command, that these my two sons may sit, one on Thy right hand, and one on Thy left, in Thy Kingdom." ²² But Jesus, answering, said, "Ye know not what ye are asking. Are ye able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?" They say to Him, "We are able."

⁶ and they love the first place in the feasts, and the front seats in the synagogues, ⁷ and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called by men 'Rabbi.'

³³ And they came to Capernaum. And, when He was in the house, He asked them, "Concerning what were ye reasoning in the way?" ³⁴ But they were silent; for they disputed with one another in the way, who was the greatest. ³⁵ And, sitting down, He called the twelve, and saith to them, "If any one wishes to be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all." ³⁶ And, taking a little child, He set it in the midst of them; and, holding it in His arms, He said to them, ³⁷ "Whosoever receives one of such little children in My name, receives Me; and whosoever receives Me, receives not Me, but Him Who sent Me."

⁷ And He spake a parable to those who were bidden, when He observed how they were choosing out the first seats; saying to them, ⁸ "When you are bidden by any one to a marriage feast, sit not on the first seat, lest possibly a more honorable man than you may have been invited by him; ⁹ and he who bade you and him, coming, shall say to you, 'Give place to this man;' and then you shall, with shame, begin to occupy the lowest place. ¹⁰ But, when you are invited, going, sit in the lowest place, that, when he who invited you comes, he may say to you, 'Friend, go up higher;' then you will have glory in the presence of all who are reclining at table with you; ¹¹ because every one who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted."

²⁴ And there arose also a contention among them as to which of them seemed to be greatest. ²⁵ But He said to them, "The kings of the gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those having authority over them are called 'Benefactors.' ²⁶ But ye are not so; but let the greater among you become as the younger, and he who leads as he who serves. ²⁷ For who is greater, he who reclines at table, or he who serves? Is not he who reclines? But I am in the midst of you as One Who serveth.

³ For I say, through the grace that was given to me, to every one among you, not to think of himself more highly than he night to think, but so to think as to think soberly, according as God divided to each one a measure of faith.

¹⁰ in brotherly love being tenderly affectionate one to another; in honor, preferring one another;

²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strifes, jealousies, wraths, factions, divisions, parties, ²¹ envyings, drunkenness, revelings, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, as I also said before, that those practicing such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.

²⁵ If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk. ²⁶ Let us not become vain-glorious, provoking one another, envying one another.

³ doing nothing through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind, each esteeming others better than himself;

¹⁴ Do all things without murmurings and disputings;

⁹ I wrote to the assembly; but Diotrephes, who loves to have preeminence among them, receives us not.
