² And I saw the new Jerusalem, the holy city, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready like a bride to join her husband.

²⁹ It is the bridegroom who has the bride, but the bridegroom's friend, who stands outside and listens to him, is very happy to hear the bridegroom's voice. So this happiness of mine is running over.

² For I feel a divine jealousy for you, as I betrothed you to Christ, to present you as a pure bride to her one husband.

²⁵ that is, Hagar (and Hagar means Mount Sinai, in Arabia) and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for Jerusalem is in slavery with her children. ²⁶ But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.

²⁵ You married men must love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her, ²⁶ to consecrate her, after cleansing her through His word, as pictured in the water bath, ²⁷ that He might present the church to Himself as a splendid bride without a blot or wrinkle or anything like it, but to be consecrated and faultless.

³⁰ because we are parts of His body. ³¹ Therefore, a man must leave his father and mother and so perfectly unite himself to his wife that the two shall be one. ³² This is a great secret; I mean this about Christ and the church.

¹⁰ For he was confidently looking forward to that city with the solid foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

²² But you have come to Mount Zion, even to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless hosts of angels,

¹⁴ for we have no permanent city here, but we are searching for that city which is to be ours.

¹ A revelation given by Jesus Christ which God gave to Him, to make known to His slaves what must very soon take place. He sent and communicated it through His angel to His slave John,

⁴ John to the seven churches in Asia: spiritual blessing and peace to you from Him who is and was and is to come, and from the seven spirits that are before His throne,

⁹ I, John, your brother and companion with you in the trouble, the kingdom, and the patient endurance which Jesus gives, found myself on the island called Patmos, for preaching God's message and testifying to Jesus.

¹² I will make him who conquers a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall never again go out of it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God, and my own new name.

² but leave off the court outside the temple; do not measure it, because it has been given over to the heathen, and for forty-two months they will trample the city underfoot.

⁷ Let us be glad and shout for joy and give Him glory, because the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready. ⁸ Permission has been granted her to dress in clean, brilliant linen, for linen signifies the upright deeds of God's people."

¹⁰ So he carried me off under the power of the Spirit to a great, high mountain and showed me Jerusalem, the holy city, coming down out of heaven from God;

¹⁹ and if anyone subtracts from it some of the words of this prophetic book, God will subtract from him his share in the tree of life and the holy city which are described in this book.
