⁴² So keep on watching, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.

³⁶ But about that day or hour not a single one knows -- not even the angels in heaven or the Son; not a single one but the Father alone.

⁴⁴ So you, too, must continue to be ready, for at an hour you are not expecting Him the Son of Man will come.

¹³ So you must keep on watching, for you do not know either the day or the hour.

³⁸ Then He said to them, "My heart is breaking, it almost kills me! You must stay here and keep watching with me." ³⁹ Then He walked on a few steps and threw Himself upon His face, and in this attitude continued to pray, and say, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass by me; and yet, I pray, not what I want but what you want." ⁴⁰ Then He came back to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, "Could you not then watch with me a single hour? ⁴¹ You must all keep watching and praying that you may not be exposed to temptation. Man's spirit is willing but human nature is weak."

³³ Keep looking, keep alert, for you do not know when the time will be. ³⁴ It will be like a man who leaves his home and goes on a journey, after he has given orders to his slaves, to each his particular task, and has given orders to the watchman to keep watch. ³⁵ So you must keep alert, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming -- in the evening or at midnight or at daybreak or early in the morning -- ³⁶ so that he may not come unexpectedly and find you asleep. ³⁷ And so what I say to you, I say to everybody, keep alert."

³⁵ "You must keep your belts tight and your lamps burning, ³⁶ and be like men waiting for their master when he comes home from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks, they at once may open the door for him. ³⁷ Happy are those slaves whom the master, when he comes, will find on the watch for him. I solemnly say to you, he will tighten his belt and have them sit at table, and he will go around and wait on them. ³⁸ Whether he comes before or after midnight, if he finds them so, happy are they. ³⁹ But be sure of this, that if the master of the house had known what time the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. ⁴⁰ So you, too, must always be ready, for at an hour that you are not expecting, the Son of Man will come."

³⁶ But ever be watching and always praying, so that you may have strength to escape all this that is going to take place, and so you may take your stand in the presence of the Son of Man."

¹¹ Do this in particular because you know the present crisis, that it is high time for you to wake up out of your sleep, for our salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.

¹³ Be always on your guard; stand firm in your faith; keep on acting like men; continue to grow in strength;

⁶ So let us stop sleeping as others do, but let us stay awake and keep sober.

⁷ But the end of everything on earth is near. So be serious and sober minded, that you may give yourselves to prayer.

⁸ Be calm and alert. Your opponent the devil is always prowling about like a roaring lion, trying to devour you.

² Wake up, and strengthen what is left, although it is on the very point of dying, for I have not found a thing that you have done complete in the sight of God. ³ So remember what you have received and heard, and continue to obey it, and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will never know the hour when I come upon you.
