³⁰ "I shall not talk much more with you, for the evil ruler of this world is coming and he has nothing in common with me,

³⁵ Then the angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you, and so your child will be called holy, the Son of God.

⁵³ While I was among you day after day in the temple, you never laid a hand on me! But this is your opportunity, even the power which darkness gives you!"

⁴⁴ Then He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you, that everything which is written about me in the law of Moses, in the prophets, and in the Psalms, had to be fulfilled." ⁴⁵ Then He opened their minds so that they might continue to understand the Scriptures, ⁴⁶ and said to them, "The Scriptures said that the Christ should suffer as He has suffered, should rise from the dead on the third day, ⁴⁷ and that in His name repentance as the condition for the forgiveness of sins should be preached to all the nations. Beginning at Jerusalem ⁴⁸ you are to continue as witnesses to these things. ⁴⁹ And I will send down upon you what my Father has promised. But you, on your part, must stay right here in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."

¹⁵ For we do not have a High Priest who is incapable of sympathizing with us in our weaknesses, but we have One who was tempted in every respect as we are, and yet without committing any sin.

²⁶ For we needed such a High Priest, holy, innocent, unstained, far removed from sinful men, and elevated far above the very heavens,

¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without a blemish or a blot,

²² He never committed a sin, and deceit was never found on His lips.

⁵ You know that He appeared to take our sins away, and that there is no sin in Him. ⁶ No one who continues to live in union with Him practices sin. No one who practices sin has ever seen Him or come to know Him. ⁷ Dear children, avoid letting anyone lead you astray. Whoever practices doing right is upright, just as He is upright. ⁸ Whoever practices sin belongs to the devil, because the devil has practiced sin from the beginning. This is why the Son of God appeared, to undo the devil's works.

⁴ You are children of God, dear children, and you have conquered these men, because He who is in our hearts is greater than he who is in the world.

¹⁹ We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the power of the evil one.

⁹ So the huge dragon, the ancient serpent, called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world, was hurled down to the earth, and his angels were hurled down with him.

² He seized the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. ³ Then he hurled him into the abyss, closed it, and sealed it over him, to keep him from leading the nations astray anymore, until the thousand years are at an end; after that he must be let loose a little while.

⁷ When the thousand years have ended, Satan will be let loose from his prison. ⁸ He will go forth to lead astray the nations that are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, and to muster them for battle, and their number will be like the sands of the seashore.
