⁷ He came for the purpose of testifying, to testify to the light, so that everyone through him might come to believe.

¹⁴ And just as Moses in the desert lifted the serpent on the pole, the Son of Man must be lifted up,

⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him to me; then I myself will raise him to life on the last day.

²⁸ So Jesus said to them, "When you lift the Son of Man (on the cross), you will know that I am the Christ, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but that I say exactly what my Father has instructed me to say.

³⁴ The crowd answered Him, "We have learned from the law that the Christ is to remain here forever, and so how can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?"

¹⁷ and He went out carrying the cross by Himself to a spot called The Place of the Skull, or in Hebrew, Golgotha.

¹⁷ For if by one man's offense death reigned through that one, to a much greater degree will those who continue to receive the overflow of His unmerited favor and His gift of right standing with Himself, reign in real life through One, Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ So, as through one offense there resulted condemnation for all men, just so through one act of uprightness there resulted right standing involving life for all men. ¹⁹ For just as by that man's disobedience the whole race of men were constituted sinners, so by this One's obedience the whole race of men may be brought into right standing with God.

¹³ Christ ransomed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us -- for the Scripture says, "Cursed be everyone who is hanged on a tree" --

⁶ who gave Himself as a ransom for all, a fact that was testified to at the proper time,

⁹ but we do see Jesus, who was made inferior to the angels for a little while, crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by God's favor He might experience death for every human being.

²⁴ He bore our sins in His own body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to uprightness. By His wounds you have been healed,

¹⁸ For Christ Himself, once for all, died for our sins, the Innocent for the guilty to bring us to God, being put to death in physical form but made alive in the Spirit,

² And He is Himself the atoning sacrifice for our sins; and not for ours alone, but also for the whole world.

⁹ Then they sang a new song: "You deserve to take the book and break its seals, because you have been slaughtered, and with your blood have bought men from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation,
