⁴⁸ If we let Him go on this way, everybody will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and blot out both our city and nation."

⁷ Then the king was enraged, and sent his soldiers to put those murderers to death and burned their city.

¹² Those along the path illustrate those who hear it, but then the devil comes and carries off the message from their hearts, so that they may not believe it and be saved.

⁵² A curse on you experts in the law, because you have taken away the key to the door of knowledge! You did not go in yourselves, and you kept out those who tried to get in."

²⁰ "When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, then understand that her devastation is near. ²¹ Then let those in Judea begin to fly to the mountains, and those within the city begin to get out of it, ²² for these are the days of vengeance when all that is written in the Scriptures will be fulfilled. ²³ Alas for the women who are pregnant and those who have nursing babies in those days! For there will be great misery in the land and wrath on this people. ²⁴ They will fall by the edge of the sword and will be carried off as captives among all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled under the feet of the heathen, until the times of the heathen come to full measure.

²⁸ But Jesus turned to the women and said, "Women of Jerusalem, stop weeping for me, but continue to weep for yourselves and for your children. ²⁹ For a time is coming when people will say, 'Happy are the women who are childless, and the women who have never borne and nursed babies!' ³⁰ Then people will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall upon us!' and to the hills, 'Cover us up!' ³¹ For if they do this when the wood is green, what will they do when it is dry?"

⁷ He came for the purpose of testifying, to testify to the light, so that everyone through him might come to believe.

²⁸ "Did we not positively forbid you to teach anymore on this authority, and yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and now want to bring on us the people's vengeance for this man's death!"

³⁸ So in the present case, I warn you, stay away from these men, let them alone. For, if this program or movement has its origin in men, it will go to pieces, ³⁹ but if it has its origin in God, you can never stop it. It is to be feared that you may find yourselves fighting God." ⁴⁰ They were convinced by him, and after calling the apostles in and having them flogged, they charged them to stop speaking on the authority of Jesus, and then turned them loose.

¹⁵ who killed the Lord Jesus and persecuted the prophets and us; and who continue to displease God and show themselves in opposition to all mankind, ¹⁶ by trying to keep us from speaking to the heathen, so that they may be saved, so as always to fill to the brim the cup of their sins. But at last God's wrath has come upon them.
