¹⁹ In the evening of that same first day of the week, even with the doors of the room bolted where the disciples had met for fear of the Jews, Jesus went in and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you!" ²⁰ On saying this, He showed them His hands and His side, and the disciples were thrilled with joy over seeing their Lord. ²¹ Jesus again said to them, "Peace be with you! Just as my Father has sent me forth, so I am now sending you." ²² On saying this, He breathed upon them, and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit! ²³ If you get forgiveness for people's sins, they are forgiven them; if you let people's sins fasten upon them, they will remain fastened upon them." ²⁴ Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, who was called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came in. ²⁵ So the rest of the disciples kept saying to him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail prints in His hands, and put my finger into them, and put my hand into His side, I will never believe it!" ²⁶ Just a week later the disciples were in the room again and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were bolted, Jesus came in and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you!" ²⁷ Then He said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and look at my hands, and take your hand and put it in my side, and stop being an unbeliever, but be a believer!" ²⁸ Thomas answered Him, "My Lord and my God!" ²⁹ Jesus said to him, "Is it because you have seen me, Thomas, that you believe? Blessed be those who believe, even though they have not seen me!"

¹³ When they reached the city, they went to the room upstairs where they had been staying; they were: Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alpheus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. ¹⁴ With one mind they were all continuing to devote themselves to prayer, with the women and Mary and His brothers.

¹ When the day of Pentecost had now come, they were all meeting in one mind,

⁴² And they devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to fellowship with one another, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

¹⁶ Once as we were on our way to the place of prayer, a slave girl met us who had the gift of magical fortune-telling, and continued to make great profits for her owners by fortune-telling.

⁷ On the first day of the week when we had met to break bread, Paul addressed them, since he was leaving the next day, and prolonged his speech till midnight.

⁸ or of one who encourages others, in the field of encouragement; or one who gives his money, with liberality; or one who leads others, with earnestness; or one who does deeds of charity, with cheerfulness.

¹¹ Do this in particular because you know the present crisis, that it is high time for you to wake up out of your sleep, for our salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed. ¹² The night has almost passed; the day is at hand. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness, and put on the weapons of light. ¹³ Let us live becomingly for people who are in the light of day, not in carousing and drunkenness, nor in sexual immorality and licentiousness, nor in quarreling and jealousy.

¹³ the character of each one's work will come to light, for the judgment day will show it up. This is so, because that day will show itself in fire, and the fire will test the character of each one's work.

⁴ for when you met I too met with you in spirit by the power of our Lord Jesus --

¹⁷ But as I am giving you these instructions I cannot approve of your meetings, because they do not turn out for the better but for the worse. ¹⁸ For, in the first place, when you meet as a congregation, I hear that there are cliques among you, and I partly believe it.

²⁰ So when you hold your meetings, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper,

³ But whoever prophesies is speaking to men for their upbuilding. encouragement, and comfort.

²³ Hence, if the whole church has met and everybody speaks in ecstasy, and illiterate people or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are crazy?

⁵ Let your forbearing spirit be known to everybody. The Lord is near.

¹⁸ So continue encouraging one another with this truth.

¹¹ So continue encouraging one another and helping one another in character building.

¹³ but day by day, as long as "Today" shall last, continue to encourage one another, so that not one of you may be hardened by sin's deceiving ways,

²⁴ Let us continue so to consider one another as to stimulate one another to love and good deeds.

⁸ You must be patient, too; you must put iron into your hearts, because the coming of the Lord is close at hand.

⁷ But the end of everything on earth is near. So be serious and sober minded, that you may give yourselves to prayer.

⁹ The Lord is not slow about His promise, in the sense in which some think of slowness, but He is really dealing patiently with you, because He is not willing for any to perish but for all to have an opportunity to repent?

¹¹ If all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what men you ought to be! What holy and pious lives you ought to lead,

¹⁴ Therefore, dearly beloved, since you are expecting this, be in earnest to be found by Him without a blot, without reproach, and at peace.

¹⁹ These are men who cause divisions; mere animals, destitute of any spiritual nature,
